Team ACTS has booked the floating splendor that is the SS Galaxy, a jewel of the line cruise ship. Dance under blues skies to swing, vintage and modern, big band and more. DJ Magda is providing the tunes, ACTS is providing the venue, all we need is you, looking your swanky best!

Come join us and share our memories- and help to revive our old haunt. Lots of fun, and if you wish dress up in period dress or come semi formal and to smile, have fun and do awesome things. All Tips will go to RFL of SL .

The SS Galaxy Returns: Part Two

Last week, the SS Galaxy, the largest ship and probably the largest build in Second Life, reappeared onto the grid after having been gone from the public view since May. Gemma Cleanslate found out about the huge vessel's return, and went back. Besides the ship, she also saw a number of Lindens and a few of the moles whom had been working on it.

The SS Galaxy Returns

In May, the SS Galaxy was taken offline along with it's sims after eight years of providing residents with the most detailed cruise ship experience in Second Life. On Thursday Sept 3, Gemma Cleanslate was informed the sims and ship were now reopened, now under Linden Lab ownership.

There was no music, no fishing contests, no dance parties, but the ship was back up for all to explore, albeit as a museum peice.

Gemma Cleanslate will have more information in her article later. For now, residents are free to head back and see the ship for themselves.

Linden Lab to Reopen SS Galaxy

It seems that the SS Galaxy won't be gone forever, but will be back. At least it will be in a limited manner.

On the Galaxy blog, the ship's managing director DBDigital Epsilon posted some new information concerning the ship. Specifically that it will be back, but under a new owner. Linden Lab is taking ownership of the sims and the three sim ship. While fans of the ship will be glad to hear it's still around, the enthusiasm of some is likely to be dampened by that there are no plans for further events aboard the ship.

Dear Supporters and Friends of the SS Galaxy,

There have been many rumors cycling regarding the Galaxy and what really happened.  I can’t release that information as of yet.  However, I can now say that the SS Galaxy has been acquired by Linden Labs and will return.  She is currently undergoing retrofitting to sail under the Linden Labs flag.  I have been tirelessly converting all the transferable prims I personally owned to Linden Lab ownership, and my part of the project is now complete.

Sadly being under Linden Lab’s flag also means that none of the previous management or crew will be aboard in any sort of capacity.  I have also been told there will be no rentals or events.  This means she will not quite be the Galaxy you know and love.  But she will still exist in a museum state and be open for visitation in the near future.

More information will be released as I can.  I wish to thank everyone again from the guests, to the staff, and beyond.  You all made the Galaxy the special place she was, and no one can take that from us.

Queen of the Sagittarian No More

It was such a shock when I opened the notice . The SS Galaxy has been such a staple in Second Life for so long. The three sim ship was a world in itself. Weddings, parties, art exhibits and fun made this a wonderful place to visit and and offered so many topics for articles for the SL Newser. The Sagittarian Sea will truly be empty. 

Hats off to the hard working staff for all their years of entertainment for the residents of SL . I plan on some final visits this week: One last game of miniature golf, last dance, last walk around the deck, last visit to the gallaries and perhaps a purchase or two.  I hope those who have been there make a visit this week and those who have not been there .It brings tears to my eyes.

Reader Submitted: Farewell SS Galaxy

March 24, 2009. On this day, I first came to Second Life. Within a few minutes, I'd met the person who'd be my best friend in this virtual world. Riko Kamachi.

March 30, 2009. While wandering the tunnels under Dublin, I found an elevator, went up and found the miniature of a ship. I got a landmark from it, and arrived on the SS Galaxy for the first time. She's been my home every since. I may not have been a renter until the last couple of months, but I've always considered her my home..

Now, within two months, I've lost my best friend as well as the best home in Second Life. One to cancer, the other to a whole different type of cancer called griefing.

Very few of you knew this before this moment, but I had strong feelings for Riko, feelings that only grew after she passed away.

On the Galaxy, everyone has always been welcome. It doesn't matter what you are. Human, tiny, wolf, kitten, unicorn.... everyone is welcome. I found not only a home and a place to bury my bones, here I also found a family.

I may just be a mad wolf with a box. But I am far more than that, too. I am a PROUD mad wolf with a box! Proud to be a part of the Galaxy family. Proud be have walked these halls for years. There will never again be a place as majestic and inviting..

I know I speak for everyone when I say, I wish things had not come to this. I do not want to lose the Galaxy. But you do not always get what you wish for.

Time heals all wounds, or so they say. This would will never fully heal, for any of us.

As we prepare for the final voyage on board our fair lady, we should all keep our memories of her in our hearts. Think of her with kindness and love. Cherish the moments we've all shared on board..

SS Galaxy to Close

For fans of the cruise ship experience, or ships in general, one place to stop was the SS Galaxy. This ship is so massive, it takes three sims to hold it: Galaxy Aft, Mid, and Forward. Made to recreate the cruise ship experience, it has wowed visitors for over eight years. Singers have performed on it. Art exhibitions have been held on it. Music videos have been filmed on it. Almost five years ago, it was among the first subjects of the Second Life Newser story.


Sadly, just as ships in real life get retired, the SS Galaxy's days are now numbered. On the evening of Sunday April 27, the following noticed was posted to those in it's group and subecription list.

 Dear Supporters and Friends of the SS Galaxy,

 The Management and Crew of the SS Galaxy would like to thank each and every one of you for helping make the Galaxy community one of the most thriving, vibrant and welcoming on the Second Life grid.Together with your help, we have been building wonderful memories since February 2007.

All good things must come to and end, and in the Galaxy’s case, we will be closing the ship on May the 3rd. All current renters will receive a 100% refund of your most recent payment. Please help us by picking up all your items as soon as possible; before the 3rd we will be doing room by room returns throughout the week as well if anything is left.

For us as the Crew, the privilege has been ours to meet and interact with each of you over these eight years. The memories we have from these experiences, will continue to inspire us and our values, long beyond 2015.

Many of you have become more than our cabin tenants - we consider you a part of the Galaxy family as well  :-)

In the many diverse strands of lifestories, God has granted us the blessing of having our respective stories intertwine, at least for a time.

As we prepare to go on beyond April 2015, the Crew wish you that the strength in bonds will continue to sustain each and every one of you, along life’s way.

SL Machinima: Titanic, 100th Aniversary

A Second Life Titanic machinima, "This music video remake was created in remembrance of Titanic's upcoming 100th anniversary 2012 april 15th. At the same time this is a unique way to highlight the visual capabilities of SecondLife, using a real world example. All images are captured within the 3D-virtual world of Secondlife itself. Therefor, it is a technology benchmark and will generate related discussion."

A Milestone for the SS Galaxy

On June 18th, 19th, and 20th the SS Galaxy will be marking its third anniversary in SL. The Zodiac Ballroom will be hosting the live musicians. Eponine Dench will entertain with her sultry jazz songs Friday at 6:00 pm SL time. Saturday at 2:00 pm, Carah Nitely takes the stage with her popular songs. At 5:00 pm, you can listen to the blues and county style of EdHausen Morpork. Sunday the festivities start at 11:00 am with Katia Keres will light up the venue with her expressive music and at 6:00 pm you can listen to the acoustic guitar of Edward Kyomoon.

If you have not visited the SS Galaxy, you have a treat in store for you. This magnificent vessel occupies three sims in the Blake Sea. You will find a myriad of places to visit between shows in the Zodiac. Play a little miniature golf, skeet shoot, fishing, or play a little basketball. There is a gallery with a featured artist, many shops to visit, and much more to discover for your extended visit.
