EOTB: New Last Names Announced

 

On Tuesday March 1, Linden Lab announced in the official Second Life blog that they had added several new last names to the list of surnames available for residents to change their account names to.

Today some of the older last name options were removed and the following new ones were added from your suggestions:

Foxpaws
Captain
Starchild
Blep
Grumpypants
Jackman
Kiko
Norbert
Ayashi
Corvinus
McGregor
Marques
Rizzo

Of "Foxpaws," one taking on the account surname is noted RFL Sunbeamer DJ Mattie, whom has gone from MattCarlton Resident to Mattie Foxpaws, though is keeping her display name of Mattie Carlton.

Of the original 48 names, thirteen are left: Takeda, Littlepaws, Alpha, Mysterious, Hexum, Atheria, Puddles, Leeder, Dismantled, Dallas, Mercury, Crisp, and Resident.

New Halloween-Themed Last Names Available

 
 

Yesterday on Wednesday, Linden Lab announced five new last names. They were listed as "Limited Edition" for Halloween season, and it was obvious they were for the spooky holiday.

To celebrate Halloween we are releasing new limited edition last names today!

The following Halloween-themed names are only available until November 1st:  

Trick
Treat
Lecter
Pumpkins
Ghostly

The Lab would also say, "These names for Halloween are seasonal and may come back around this time next year, for a limited time."

However, to keep the list of names at forty-eight, this means five surnames were taken off the list of last ames. They are Primless, Knickers, Orlando, Aviator, and Caboose.

Most of the new names are the harmless kind of spooky. One stands out: Lecter, the surname of the psychotic and cannibalistic serial killer Hannibal Lecter in "The Silence of the Lambs." Ghosts and vampires may not be real, but serial killers unfortunately can be. Hard to say how many will come up with names like "Hannibal Lecter" and "Doctor Lecter" as a result of the new option.

Yesterday, Monday July 12, Linden Lab announced in the official Second Life blog that they had added several new last names to the list of surnames available for residents to change their account names to.

Today some of the older last name options were removed and the following new ones were added:

Vanlager
Wainwright
Tater
Skydancer
Primless
Vermilion
Morningstar 

Several older choices for surnames were discarded, keeping the list of available last names at forty-eight.

The Lab stated the new list of last names will be available until about mid-October, in three months time. Then, some will be added, and some taken away. The Lab also plans for some Halloween-themed limited-edition last names to be available only around for a short time. 

Of the original forty-eight names, only about eighteen are left: Takeda, Littlepaws, Alpha, Mysterious, Hexem, Atheria, Puddles, Leeder, Cloud, Dismantled, Ravenhurst, Kiyori, Enchantment, Banana, Dallas, Mercury, Crisp, and Resident.

New Last Names Announced

 
For those whom have been waiting for the Lab to come up with some new last names, good news. Yesterday on Wednesday February 10, Linden Lab announced a list of newly available last names.

We have been very pleased to see the response to the return of last names back in April of 2020. Much as we did with the original legacy surnames, we plan to continually update and change the last names that are available for selection. Now that Uplift is complete, we anticipate that the rotation of available options will happen more often.  

The Lab went on to say several older names had been removed, and fifteen new ones were added: Orlando, Incognito, Nebula, Knickers, Aviator, Bunny, Blackwood, Darkheart, Amore, Suki, Venus, Evergarden, Caboose, Dakota, and Absinthe.

So of the original list of last names, about half remain as options.

As a reminder, new residents do not get these names as an option when creating their accounts. Instead the ability to change one's account is a perk for Premium accounts, and in addition there's a fee. So someone with a basic account will need to pay a total of $51.98 USD to get a last name other than "Resident."

Since the return of last names in April 2020,  there has only been one previous change in the list of surname options, in June 2020. With the move to The Cloud complete, the Lab states there will be changes more often. So far in the forums, there hasn't been much reaction on the two threads created (here) and (here). What reaction there is so far seems to be reactions of amusement.

Will we soon see names like Going Incognito, Honey Bunny, Marsand Venus, Thats Amore and others? Time will tell.

EOTB : Ten New Last Names

Last week, Linden Lab announced that ten last names for residents to change their account surname to would soon be replaced. Yesterday, the Lab announced the ten were gone, and ten new ones had taken their place.



Today, we are pleased to announce the names replacing them, available as an option for purchase now: 

Vortex
Fluffpaw
Sassypants
Amethyst
Bloodrose
Aurelia
Starlight 

Additionally, three names are being made available for purchase in honor of Second Life’s 17th Birthday theme:  

Wayfarer
Rover
Wanderer

The Lab stated the next time ten names are selected to be replaces, the last three will be along them.
