Changes at Castaway Cove

It's been almost a year since Castaway Cove first made the scene at the Kalmeere sim. With it's unique look, a beach club between two halves of a wrecked pirate ship, it certainly stands out among social spots in Second Life. For the past several months, the club has had regular activities under the direction of Skylark Lefarve, with Kitacelia recently taking on the job of hostess.

Kitacelia wanted to make the club more than just a great place to party, but also emphasize it being a cool place to just hang out and have fun. The club now sports a bar where one can get drinks. There's also a number of games there, a blackjack table has been installed. So has a pool table, where one can play games of billiards. There's ping pong. There's a dart board. There's bowling. There's a couple arcade games, including Tetris. There's a mechanical bull which keeps track of the lowest time. And there's the mud wrestling ring, which has proven to be a favorite attraction among a number of the regulars. And the Clue and Greedy-Greedy games which were already there are still here, along with the boats and jet skis.

Kitacelia made a group announcement recently that the club's DJs would be taking on a regular schedule most weeks. On Tuesdays at 8PM SL time, DJ Perri would play the music. On Thursdays at 8PM, DJ Kryxia would spin the tunes. And every Saturday at 8PM, the two would alternate.

Castawave Cove's Comeback

When first set up, Castaway Cove was the scene of regular events, both dancing and primtionary games. But more recently not many events had been held there. So it was decided to shut down the club after one last event. However, some last minute help arrived.

Help Wanted: Managers Needed for Castaway Cove, Green Meadows, Clubs

Two clubs are looking for people to help manage them, due to the owners having multiple demands in Second Life and real life. These are the Castaway Cove and Green Meadows clubs.

The Castaway Cove club was built fairly recently, a few months ago. Built in the Kalmeere Paradise sim, it was intended to be a temporary club until the sim was developed for residential use. But plans for housing have changed, and the club will be untouched for some time. Most likely, it will stay at the sim in some form.

Castaway Cove is owned by Nydia Tungsten, a longtime DJ whom has also ended up with ownership of a few clubs. This beach club has a unique layout, resembling a wrecked pirate ship broken in two. The dance area is located in between. There is a small shopping area, some board games to play between events, jet skis to boat around the sim's ocean area, and a "Primtionary" game, possibly the only one around outside Luskwood.

The Green Meadows Club has been around for a few years. Originally opened as Xanadu by Perri Prinz and RECoyote Mindes, it was developed to be a "classic rock club for people who enjoy both popular and obscure rock music from the 70's and 80's." The club temporarily closed in 2010, but was reopened a year later to a cheerful group happy to see its return. Officially, it was renamed the Green Meadows Club, but fans continued to call it "Perri's Xanadu."

The club's exterior has a strong resemblance to the Pan Pacific Auditorium in Los Angeles, which was the setting of the club in the movie "Xanadu." The inside of the club is made to look like a 70's disco, with sacks of vinyl records next to the DJ booth. The place has a small store area nearby, as well as a teleport to Perri's art gallery with illustrations for her "Spectral Shadows" stories, and more.

Green Meadows is located at HV Community (61, 201, 4051)

Both venues are part of the FCA club alliance, of which the various clubs work to coordinate their schedules to avoid time conflicts. Those interested in managing Castawave Cove are asked to send a notecard to Nydia Tungsten, and for Grean Meadows send a notecard to Perri Prinz.

Primtionary

Some of you may have heard of the game "Pictionary" in which someone draws pictures and others try to guess what it is. Well, have you ever heard of "Primtionary?" In this Second Life game, one gets a word from the referee, and tries to show what it is using prims while others try to guess what it is, being told only if the subject is one word or two. The winner gets to work with the next word.

Luskwood has been holding Primtionary games every Wednesday at 7PM SL time. When Jasmine Dawn sat through a session and talked about what it was to Nydia Tungsten, the two put their heads together, and maybe the New Castaway Cove club could have some Primtionary of its own.

So a Primtionary set was built in the Kalmeere Paradise sim, and for a few hours at 8PM Thursday Feb 2nd and 4PM on Friday Feb 3rd, a number of Nydia's friends came over for some impromptu games. In this picture, Nydia is trying to describe the term "car horn."

Different people had different skills in both building with the prims and getting the audience to guess the word. Myself the word I had gotten was "Space Station." I rezzed a globe, and expanded it's size to take up half the stage, then rezzed a cylinder and put it up in the air next to the globe. Before I could add any details, someone correctly guessed it.

Skilled builders could quickly come up with a description. Here, Lomgren Smalls is trying to describe the term "Wireless Phone."

The participants had lots of fun, and there is talk about a regular weekly-scheduled Primtionary game at Castway Cove, in addition to any impromptu matches.
