Halloween at Club Zero Gravity

October is Halloween month, and there have been spooky parties all over. This includes Club Zero Gravity, the space station club of the Sunweaver Angels community.

DJ Snowy (Skylark Lefavre) played the tunes in a Crux avie. Hostess Kylee Gracemount was costumed as a witch. Manager Mato (Matoazma Kazyanenko), was dressed as a nurse in case anyone partied too hard.

And people showed up in all sorts of costumes, This included Sunweaver community leader Rita Mariner as a Ghostbuster.

It was a "spooktacular" party.

Club Zero Gravity has events every Wednesday from 4-6PM at Sunweaver Space (129, 249, 3597).

The Relay Season Begins

On Saturday February 15, the Relay for Life in Second  Life officially started it's season. At Noon, there was a Kickoff event. While the Newser wasn't there, thankfully there was recorded footage of the ceremony. Some committee members were there, and encouraged the crowd. This included announcing there were 160 teams registered before kickoff, considered a record.

There would be many events that weekend, Saturday and Sunday, among them Team Aurora's "Carnival Kick Off Party." The carnival games are presumably still up on Warblood Isle.

At 4PM was the "Battle of the DJs," organized by team Sugar Skols.

Six DJs would complete, including the Sunbeamer's DJ Snowy (Skylark Lefavre).

Snowy would win the competition, raking in over 100,000 Lindens during the event.

More stories on Relay events soon.

Relay For Life's "Last Push Party"

While the Relay Weekend is over, it wasn't quite the last event for the 2023 fundraising season. On Friday June 30, the "Last Push Party" was held at the American Cancer Society sim. Instead of for teams, the event was to give the Relay's season total one more boost.

Its our Last Push Party at ACS Island on the patio of the Relay For Life Building!  We have some Amazing DJ's lined up as we make that last push!   You guys have simply been amazing and we hope to see you all there today starting at 12pm SLT! Oh and prepare to get wet!  LOL   Lets have some fun!

There were a number of DJs playing, such as DJ Vesper, DJ Dresi, and DJ Andree. I dropped in (via my alt Rezzdammit) to catch DJ Snowbuns playing her tunes. She would later tell me she had been asked by the "Roos With A Dream" team to take part. When a donation was made to the kiosk, one heard, "Thank you for creating hope! Donations to this kiosk are distributed to the American Cancer Society IRL, and used to fund life-saving cancer research grants and patient services that benefit the entire world, including residents of Second Life through Hope Haven on American Cancer Society island."

As people danced and listened to the music, there was much conversation such as jokes about bad TV shows and making people pink, or purple, for the Relay. There were also cheering comments about the Relay's mission, Snowy herself saying, "Lets keep opening cans of Whoopbutt on Cancer till it goes away!"

By the end of Snowy's set, a total of 117,000 Linden dollars had been raised.

At the end, Gem Sunkiller thanked all who took part, "Thank you to everyone who came to our season end celebration at the Relay Building.....You all are part of Relay For Life of Second Life...the record-breaking, award-winning, premier cancer-fighting community in Second Life....proclaim it proudly! You all are an awesome family of Relayers!"

Sunbeamer "Bid Me" Update

Following their performance at the Relaystock, the Relay for Life's Sunbeamers have continued to do well. On Saturday May 20 at 8 PM, the "Bid Me Otter" fundraiser, of which Snowy HunniBunni Lefavre (Skylark Lefavre) was the volunteer, came to a close. Team captain Rita Mariner would announce the results.

SNOWY"S BID ME OTTER RESULTS

Snowy's Bid Me:

Keep Me Bunny - 1,000L

Bid Me Otter - 10,750L

Snowy goes OTTER for 3 weeks, until.JUNE 10.

So the loveable bunny DJ, who also manages the Happy Vixen and BBBC beach clubs, will be "otterly cute" for a few weeks.

While Liska's "Bid Me Skunk" fundraiser ended on Saturday May 6, she continued to be the purple fox for a while. She had been continuing the time from her previous Bid Me event. On Saturday May 20, she started the time for the skunk Bid Me. So now she reflects the sweet smell of successful Relaying.

So now there's one "Bid Me" fundraiser still ongoing: Mattie Carlton's "Bid Me Purple." It will last for a few more days, with the total raised made final on Saturday May 27 at 8PM and the announced soon after. For those wanting to make donations, head to Club Cutlass at Sunweaver Bay (114/117/757), and look for the kiosks. How long will things be going "grape" for the Relay DJ, we'll soon see.

Go Sunbeamers! Go Relay!

Sunbeamer Bid-Me Events: "Bid Me Pink, Fennec, Ruth"

With the Relay season going in full gear, the Sunbeamer team is out to raise some more cash for the American Cancer Society. While there are the weekly Moon Dances and the upcoming Air Show, there is more that can be done. And so a few vict- er, volunteers have stepped forward in some "Bid-Me" events.

The "Bid Me" events started in real-life Relays with "Bid Me Bald" fundraisers in which volunteers would shave all their hair if enough cash was raised. When the Relay came to Second Life, starting with the Relay Rockers, teams would start having their own "Bid Me Bald" events, with people volunteering to stay a "chrome dome" for so many days or weeks, depending on how much was raised. BUT, with furry avatars, there's a slight problem as simply removing the head hair so it's the same as the rest of the body's coat of fur isn't as drastic a change. So furry Relayers found other ways to put their appearance on the line in the name of the fight against cancer.

Never to put her teammates through what she wouldn't go through, Team Captain Rita Mariner was one of the first two volunteers. In "Bid Me Pink," the white bunny is offering to go pink for every week 5000 Linden dollars are donated into the right kiosk, rounded down. If 9999L gets donated, she only spends one week as "Pinkie Pie." If 10,000 is raised, she spends two weeks having to listen to "Pink Panther" music.

For those wanting to keep her white, a default kiosk is included on the left. Should more be donated into that than the pink one, then no matter how much was donated, Rita avoids getting pinked.

Snowy HunniBunni Lefavre (Skylark Lefavre), one of the team's DJs, is also putting her looks on the line with her "Bid Me Fennec." For every 4000 Linden dollars donated in the right kiosk, rounded down, she spends a week as a big-eared vulpine. For those who want to keep her a fluffy bun-bun, there's a default kiosk to the left they can donate to.

High Sunbeamer Cynthia Farshore is the third putting her fur on the line with a "Bid Me Ruth" event. In her case, only 2000 Linden dollars, rounded down, is enough to make her sans fur and horns for a week. And this isn't just any human avatar, but the infamous "Ruth," the original Second Life avatar which for years was the default that residents changed to whenever there was a server problem that affected avatars, until it was changed to a cloud. As with the other fundraisers, there's also a default kiosk on the right to donate to.

Rita and Snowy's Bid-Me events go on to Saturday April 1 at 8PM SL time. Cynthia's goes on to Saturday April 8, also at 8PM. The fundraisers all take place at Club Cutlass at Sunweaver Bay (114/117/757).

Go Sunbeamers! Go Relay!

Correction:  Cynthia's event was originally listed as "Bid Me Human." It has since been corrected.

A Sunweaver Christmas Miracle: Fundraisers Save Home From Foreclosure

On Friday December 23, there was a fundraiser event at Club Cutlass. The usual two hour Friday night event was turned into a six-hour marathon as five DJs played music to the crowd. A few days before, Perri Prinz had come forward saying she and her partner Recoyote Mindes were facing a real-life eviction due to their landlord both raising the rate and moving up the date of their next payment from the middle of January just after after Rec's paycheck would come in to the first, and they had exhausted their savings.

Tonight we are having the Battle of the DJ's benefit for Reco and Perri, if you can't make it here, please drop what you can here!  https://paypal.me/RECoyote

The final idea was for a "Battle of the DJs" going from 4 PM SL time to 10 PM, with six tip jars placed just in front of the DJ booth, and the dance poles beside it. Five were for the DJs, the six for Perri Prinz where people could donate to her any time. To avoid taking a cut when buying Linden dollars, there was also the option to donate directly to Rec via Paypal. The five DJs taking part were Alexandra Tymets, Mattie Carlton,  Snowy HunniBunni Lefavre (Skylark Lefavre), Cynthia Farshore, and Perri Prinz herself.

There were a few issues, miscommunications, and snags along the way, which was no surprise as there were just a few days to get everything ready. Paypal itself was also an issue as they had supposedly enacted a rule in which they could heavily fine users for posting "misinformation" online, and hours later revoked it. But with the home of a neighbor at stake, the event went through.

DJ Lexi started things off at 4 PM SL time. Next at 5 PM was DJ Mattie. At 6PM was DJ Snowy, playing at her usual time slot. at 8 PM was DJ Cynthia. And DJ Perri closed things off at 9 PM. The themes for each set were Christmas, or some variation of it such as "Country Christmas" or "Rockin' Christmas." Club owner Rita Maniner would put prizes of 1000L on each of the two boards for each set, one session getting 2000L. But winners would usually donate all or part of their winnings to Perri's jar, as well as the DJs donating what they were tipped.

By 10 PM, a little over 76,000 Lindens had been raised at the Cutlass fundraiser. This was a little more than $300 USD before the Lab would take a cut. By itself, this was less than half of the $860 USD needed. But people also sent in money through Paypal, including one who wished to remain anonymous who told me he sent $500, which Perri confirmed. "Yes we did," Perri answered when asked if enough had been raised, "My poor math skills put the total at $1,435.77." This was much more than what was needed. Perri told me she would likely use the extra money to help with future medical expenses.

Once again the Sunweavers came through, and demonstrated the good that virtual worlds can accomplish.

Addition: Perri won the "Battle of the DJs," followed by Mattie, then Snowy.

Parties in Remembrance At The BBBC, Happy Vixen

Yesterday, Sunday September 11, the Bouncing Bunny Beach Club in SunWater Three reopened after being closed for over a month. The party was from 3 to 5 PM SL time. As it was Patriot Day, the theme was "Red, White, and Blue" in honor of the fallen of the 9/11 attacks.

DJ Snowbuns/Snowy AngelBun Lefavre (Skylark Lefavre) was the DJ for the party. The winner was Ginger (Dusk Griswold).

Following the BBBC, the Happy Vixen had a "Royal Ball" in honor of Queen Elizabeth, who passed away a few days ago. People were encouraged to dress elegantly. In the case of someone who had to wear a tiny avatar, he just put on a top hat. Hostess Ⓐиα βⓔαm 尺ⓐωr  (Analilana Buccaneer) did the decorations for the party, giving the place a quite appropriate look.

DJ Snowbuns played the music for the event. The winner was Valkyrie Ice (Valkyrie McGill).

The BBBC is at SunWaterThree (75/56/25), and has parties once a week on Sunday from 3-5. The Happy Vixen is at Purrfection Estates (236, 219, 24) and has several events a week.

Followup Interview With DJ Snowy

Due to real-life, Penny Shuftan will be taking what she hopes will be a short break from writing articles. But just in case she has to stop for a while, she wanted to interview one of the Sunweaver's notable DJs, one more time: Snowy AngelBun Lefavre (Skylark Lefavre). Snowy had more things to say about what she does as a DJ, and other things in Second Life.

Read Penny's interview in People.
