Over 230,000 L Raised at Two Veterans Isle Fundraisers

On Wednesday December 6, Veterans Isle held a fundraiser concert for the Homes For Our Troops charity. The event, which ran from 4 to 9 PM SL time and had a DJ and four live musicians raised a total of 131,900 in the two kiosks on either side of the stage. But that wasn't all. A few days later, Frets Nirvana, one of the organizers of the event, would hold another in which he himself went on stage.

Hello to all my Second Life friends

I will once again climb the stage in Second Life today December 10 @ 2 PM for one last push for donations for Homes For Our Troops at Veterans Isle.  In this week that we have remembered December 7 as the day that the U.S. entered WWII, come on out nd help today's heroes who have sacrificed just as their brothers did 82 years ago.

Frets' Sunday concert would bring in exactly 100,000 Linden dollars, fifty thousand in each kiosk. This made for a total of 231,900 L. Almost a quarter million Linden dollars to help veterans keep roofs over their heads.

Sunbeamer "Bid Me" Update

Following their performance at the Relaystock, the Relay for Life's Sunbeamers have continued to do well. On Saturday May 20 at 8 PM, the "Bid Me Otter" fundraiser, of which Snowy HunniBunni Lefavre (Skylark Lefavre) was the volunteer, came to a close. Team captain Rita Mariner would announce the results.

SNOWY"S BID ME OTTER RESULTS

Snowy's Bid Me:

Keep Me Bunny - 1,000L

Bid Me Otter - 10,750L

Snowy goes OTTER for 3 weeks, until.JUNE 10.

So the loveable bunny DJ, who also manages the Happy Vixen and BBBC beach clubs, will be "otterly cute" for a few weeks.

While Liska's "Bid Me Skunk" fundraiser ended on Saturday May 6, she continued to be the purple fox for a while. She had been continuing the time from her previous Bid Me event. On Saturday May 20, she started the time for the skunk Bid Me. So now she reflects the sweet smell of successful Relaying.

So now there's one "Bid Me" fundraiser still ongoing: Mattie Carlton's "Bid Me Purple." It will last for a few more days, with the total raised made final on Saturday May 27 at 8PM and the announced soon after. For those wanting to make donations, head to Club Cutlass at Sunweaver Bay (114/117/757), and look for the kiosks. How long will things be going "grape" for the Relay DJ, we'll soon see.

Sunbeamer "Bid Me" Update: "Bid Me Otter" and "Bid Me Purple"

The Relay for Life Team Sunbeamers has had some good successes. With the Air Show and Medieval Fun Fest events, done with Roos With A Dream, the team was catapulted to Sapphire rank fundraising. But helping the team were the "Bid Me" events going on. On Saturday May 6, three were concluded, the "Bid Me Bunny," "Bid Me Panda," and "Bid Me Skunk" events.

Here are the totals for the three BIDD MES that ended tonight.
LISKA - Stay Fox -  100L
             Go Skunk -= 14,100L

Liska goes SKUNK for 3 WEEKS

 BIXYL - Stay Fox - 50L
             Go Bunny - 14,100L

Bixyl goes Bunny for 4 weeks

CHARLEE - Stay Human - 500L
                   Go Panda - 12,000L

CHARLEE goes Panda for 6 weeks

So this means that yours truly, when not doing obvious Newser work or at special appearances like the upcoming Newser anniversary party, will be dealing with carrot jokes for about a month. Usually it will me in the mesh bunny that Charlee helped me make after the Bid Me started. Charlee will have to deal with comments about Pandaren jokes and flirts for a month and a half. For Liska, she's showing a little creativity in her new skunk form, dressing up like Luskwood founder Michi Lumin.

But as most Relayers "otter" know, this is not the end of the Bid Me events. There's a couple more. They are Skylark "Snowy" Lefavre's "Bid Me Otter," and Mattie Carlton's "Bid Me Purple."

Like most other Bid Me fundraisers, Bid Me Otter has two kiosks. For those wanting to give Snowy a taste for fish, they donate to the otter kiosk on the right. For those wanting her to stay a bunny, they chip in to the default kiosk on the left. For every 3500 Linden dollars, rounded down, in the right kiosks at the end of the fundraiser, Snowy is stuck as a "rudderbutt" for a week. For instance, if 6999 L is raised at the end, she would need to stay in her new form for a week. If 7000 Lindens are raised, It's "otter chaos" for her for two weeks. And if more is raised in the "stay bunny" kiosk, she stays one.

For Mattie's "Bid Me Purple," the idea came to her as she was going about the shops at the Fairelands recently, some of the items going to make a fairy-winged purple kitsune, "It's a 100% unique avatar built for Relay for Life. And all of it was pretty much purchased at fantasy Fair." Like Snowy's Bid Me, there's a change kiosk on the right, and a default kiosk on the left. For every 2000 Linden dollars raised in the purple kiosk, rounded down, Mattie assumes the form of her violet nine-tailed fox for a week. That is, if the amount there is greater than the default kiosk.

Both Bid Me fundraisers are at Club Cutlass. Snowy's event ends on Saturday May 20 at 8PM following the close of the party there. Mattie's event ends on  Saturday May 27, also at 8PM.

Fundraisers For Earthquake Relief

The earthquake that hit Turkey and Syria on February 6 was a truly devastating one. Registering 7.8 on the Richter scale, over 50,000 have been confirmed dead, mostly in Turkey. Shoddy building construction appears to be the major factor in why the death count has been so high. But this is just part of the problem. Thousands remain homeless, and there are medical worries as cold temperatures and lack of housing and food often result in disease.

Doctors Without Borders set up a donation area in TONE2 in the Ever Ever Land sim. Head onto Ever Ever Land (101/216/22) and donate what you like.

A few days ago, Mia Wallace of Burners Without Borders pointed out a fundraising party. This was at Orginia at Happy Clam Island. It was at late Saturday night February 18.

Awesome initiative!!....BWBSL supports this event!!>> Two hours of music from Turkish & Syrian producers & artists who create the music we dance to. All tips will be donated for earthquake relief to the Red Cross/Red Crescent & Doctors Without Borders. Bring your friends (& your lindens)

It was quite an enthusiastic event, and another example of helping out people around the world in real life through this virtual world.

Post-Walk Relay Events

For most teams, the Relay Weekend of June 11-12 was the end of their fundraising. But some gave it one last effort. Among them was the Relay Rockers, whom had the goal of raising enough to get the combined season total to past $450,000 USD. Making it a Bring Your Own Kiosk event, other teams were invited to take part.

Join the Relay Rockers for a GIANT BYOK PARTY BEACH PARTY @ Arinultra Cay.
Bring everybody.

Trader Whiplash provided the music for the beach party. After 43 minutes, Nuala Marcus announced the news on both Discord and a group announcement.

$450,004 !!!!  US   Woo hoooooooo  We did it!!

Other teams would have one last event, such as Team Aurora who did so last night, capping it with a fireworks show. Other teams such as Task Force One For Life, Mammoth Ridge, and OD would also have one. Today at 5PM is the RingSlingers Concert at New Oa. Tuesday's performance of the Second Life Cheerleading Squad from 4 to 5pm at Greased Lightning means the last official Relay event for the season. But there's still Making Strides this October, and then the Christmas Expo.

RFL: Team Sunbeamer "Bid Me" Results: Over 53,000 Lindens Raised

With the Relay Weekend approaching, Team Sunbeamers has been continuing to raise Lindens. Among the last fundraisers were several "Bid Me" events. Saturday June 4 was the final day for them. And at 8PM, the results were tallied. Four were at Club Cutlass.

RITA MARINER
0 -9000L
Pink Bunny for 3 weeks (ends June 25th)

Bixyl Shuftan
200 - 12,100
Skunk for 4 weeks (ends July 4th)

Liska DaLantros
0 - 12,150
Pink Fox for 4 weeks (ends July 4th)

Mr Fox da'Alenfey
0 - 9,200
Blue Fox for 2 weeks (ends June 18th)

Liska would later point out one small error, that the correct date for hers and Bixyl's events was Saturday June 2.

There would be one more "Bid Me" to announce. There was one at the Happy Vixen, Mattie Carlton's "Bid Mattie Pink."

Mattie Carlton - Bid Mattie Pink

Stay normal - 3050
Turn pink - 7550

total 10,600

Mattie goes pink for three weeks

With the 42,650 Linden dollars from the Cutlass fundraisers, the total for all five was 53,250 Linden dollars raised.

Rita would comment she detests wearing pink, but these being the Relay was willing to grin and bear it for a good cause. So it looks like for now,  the 'beamers' leader will have to deal with a "bubblegum crisis."

The Relay Weekend is this upcoming weekend, from Saturday June 11 to Sunday June 12.

Recent Relay For Life Events

There's been much happening with the Relay for Life in the past few days. With the Fantasy Faire and Relaystock over, there were a number of events by the teams. On Thursday May 19 was "Bid the Lindens Bald," taking place at the side of the Relaystock sim next to American Cancer Society. A number of Lindens and Moles, including Patch Linden, were in five teams, each with a kiosk for people to donate to. The team that raised the least would end up losing their hair.

It was a huge part with way over fifty people present, including many of the Lindens and Moles. Team four, consisting of Frosty Linden, Kit Linden, Sequoia Linden, Derrick Linden, Milli Mole, was the one that came up short, and ended up in the barber chairs. A total of 620,682 Lindens was raised.

Saturday May 20 was the Sunbeamer (and Roos) Air Show. Taking place at Farshore Field in Sunlight Bay, as usual Cynthia Farshore outdid herself with displays of WW2 aircraft, numerous carnival rides, had a cannon people could shoot themselves into the air and a parachute to float back down, and a bicycle blimp racetrack that had people going about in three dimensions. There was also a performance by "DJ Kayala and the Kamgaroos" from "Roos With a Dream."

There was also a performance from the Hawks Aerobatic Team, which put on quite a show.

Wildstar Beaumont would take some pictures and post them: (here).

A little more than 10,000 Lindens was raised by Team Sunbeamers that day. The Roos would also make several thousand Lindens.

Later that day from 3-5 PM Was "The Ultimate Hud To Hud Dance Challenge," taking place between the Relay Rockers and "Roos With A Dream." This was a competition decided by donations to the kiosk of each team.

There was some playful trash-talking between the two teams as the competition for Lindens was fairly intense as the two teams were close. But in the end, the Roos pulled out a win. Then the two teams danced together in celebration.

A total of $100,000 LIndens were raised by both teams.

There were other events that weekend by other teams, and there was the Sci-fi con (https://www.scificon.org/) and several more "Bid Me" events by the Sunbeamers at Club Cutlass. More on those later.

Update on Rita Mariner

Since we last wrote on Rita Mariner, the leader of the Sunweaver community and captain of the Relay for Life's Sunbeamer team, more information has come in. I managed to get in touch with her at the hospital. She told me the problem came about when at home, she had fallen and was unable to get up "due to muscle weakness and extreme pain," so she was stuck for five hours before help arrived. While she had her cell phone, it wouldn't connect with her wi-fi. So she ended up in the hospita. Her complaint: while the food was good, it wasn't enough, her describing it as more fitting for someone about 90 lbs. Someone had sent her flowers on behalf of the Sunweavers, which she was grateful for. Coming down with an infection, she spent about a couple weeks in intensive care before being moved to rehab.

Rita's laptop had been sent out to repairs, and is expected to have them finished soon and the machine returned to her, after which she should be able to resume getting online, and in Second Life. In the meantime, the activities of the Sunweavers, and the Relay Sunbeamer team, continue. Among the later, the four "Bid Me" events going on at Cutlass, the first three being joined by Valkrie Ice's "Bid Me Jackalgirl," which end tonight. For last-minute bids, head to Club Cutlass at Sunweaver Bay (114/117/757).

Sunbeamer Fundraiser Update

While the recent air show by the Sunbeamers and the Relaystock in which they took part have made news, there have been a couple other fundraisers of theirs. Earlier this month, DJ Snowbuns' (Skylark Lefavre) "Bid Me" event concluded. It ended at her event at the BBBC. Among the six choices, all had gotten at least some money. But the most popular for the bidders was the Red Panda avatar, known by some as the "Wah." The total raised was almost 17,600 Linden dollars.

And the bids are in for Snowbuns' six-choice "Bid Me" event. And the results are:

Stay White Bunny : 2,350 L
Go Cheetah       : 1,087 L
Go Equine        :   250 L
Go Lilac Bunny   :   250 L
Go Pink Fox      :   250 L
Go Red Panda     :13,400 L

           Total :17,587 L

Snowy goes Red Panda for five weeks. More than a month of "Panda-modium"

"Wah, wah, waaaaahhhhhh ..."

A few days ago, the Sunbeamer's second date auction came to a close. This time, Snowbuns was on the other end of things as she had the winning bid for the volunteer, Matt Carlton. The winning bid was 1200 Linden dollars. This fundraiser was also at the BBBC.

And the date auction with Matt Carlton at the BBBC club is over. The winner is Snowy Brandy Lefavre (Skylark Lefavre).

The Sunbeamers have recently passed the 600,000 L mark, and as of the writing of this article have raised a total of 635,958 Linden dollars.

More Sunbeamer "Bid Me" Results: Over 60,000L Raised

There were plenty of Relay events this weekend. There was a paintball match. There was a Jail For Bail. And of course the numerous music events. For Team Sunbeamers, they took part in a USO music tribute. But also, several of their "Bid Me" fundraising events were completed. The result was over 60,000 raised in four days, and while the team wasn't at Jade level yet, it was within sight. So whom were the people who put their looks on the line?

Sunbeamer Date Auction and "Bid Me Foxy"

The Relay's Team Sunbeamer has been steadily at work, as of the writing of this article having made almost 300,000 Linden dollars this season. Besides the weekly Moon Dances and two Bid Me events, they've just started two more fundraisers. There's a "Bid Me Foxy" and a date auction. Both are at Club Cutlass.

Mieka May is the lady volunteering for the third "Bid Me" event. Like the previous ones, there are two kiosks to donate to. There's a default kiosk on the left to let her stay her normal huskygirl self. And there's the one on the left people can donate to in order to get her to change to orange vixen for a while. For every 2000 Linden Dollars, rounded down, donated, she has to be a literal "foxy lady" (unless the default kiosk wins). For instance, if 3999 Linden dollars is the total donated, she only has to stay in the new look for a week. But 4001 Lindens mean she has to spend two weeks as a lady fox.

The kiosks for Mieka's "Bid Me" will stay up until Satuday April 3. At 8PM, the totals will be made final and the results announced.

DJ Snowbuns (Skylark Lefavre) signed up not for a "Bid Me" for her first event, but a date auction. For this, there are no Relay kiosks, but instead people put their money in a picture of Snowy on the wall on the port doorway between the dance floor and back room. Two cash amounts are listed. The smaller is the current amount bid. The larger amount is what's needed to make a higher bid and take the lead.

As this is a Relay date auction, there's a number of limits to the date. Snowy says she can only go as far as skimpy clothes and maybe cuddling. She does love dancing, and a night at the movies or a day boating is nice, as would be some time at game tables or maybe some rides, "I can and will do a lot will just have to see what there is left remaining on SL to do. ... My days off are Monday, Tuesday, and Saturday. Sunday after my event am free sometimes."

People have until Saturday March 27 to bid on the Date Auction. At 8 PM, the results are made final.

Both of these fundraisers are at Club Cutlass in the Sunweaver Bay sim at (114/117/757). People in and out of the Relay are encouraged to hop over and make donations to these and other fundraisers.

RFL Team Sunbeamers Reach Silver

The Relay for Life's team of the Sunweaver community has gone up a notch. On Wednesday night, the total amount of Lindens raised for the Sunbeamers reached 50,000, or Silver rank, followed by an announcement.

Beamers:  We are now SILVER level and both Bixyl and Liska are now tagged with going 4 weeks each, on their BID MEs.  Bwahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As Team Captain Rita Mariner hinted at, much of the money came from donations to the "Bid Me Human" and "Bid Me Deer" fundraisers. The team total has continued to grow, as of the writing of this article, almost 53,000 Lindens. A number of other teams have also reached Bronze and Silver ranks.

So what happens after March 15 for the two volunteers? Time will tell.

A Busy Weekend

Quite a bit happened this weekend. The Roma community held it's Lupercalia festival. Veterans Isle held it's monthly fundraiser concert for Homes For Our Troops. There were also several Relay fundraising events, including one held by KittyKatS for it's eighth anniversary (above).

We'll have more on one or so of these, and other happenings, later on.

A Busy Sunday

Sunday was an active day. It was the last official day for the RFL Christmas Expo, and among the last big events was the "Holidays for Hope" ball. The stage was cleverly designed, looking like a music box. The event lasted from 1 to 6PM.

The Expo wasn't the only event going on. Bay City had it's Christmas Tree Lighting party. with the music provided by DJ GoSpeed Racer and live musicians Melinda M. Baptiste and Erika Ordinary. This was a two hour event from 1 to 4 PM SL time. The event raised a little money for the Child's Play charity.

More pictures later, time permitting.
