Relay Weekend, Sunday

Sunday was Day Two of the Relay Weekend, of which Day One saw a lot (link). The early morning hours are the least active, with many people heading to bed. But others were staying up.

At RFL Cure, T1 Radio would play the music for the track, staffed throughout the night by various DJs,

And people continued to down the track. Someone was zipping by leaving a rainbow streak so fast it took hours to get a good shot.

As the morning went on, more avatars of all kinds went down the track.

Going too fast sometimes resulted in taking a bath.

Someone lit a fire at one sim crossing. Fortunately, it was harmless.

And there were more camps to see.

Kitsunes for A Cure had a fascinating HUD-based game, with a prize for those who found all ten scrolls.

Eventually, it came time for the closing ceremony at 10AM

The closing ceremony would also be recorded (click here to watch).

The Committee thanked those for participating, gave out some awards, and read a moving statement from someone who'd just found out his cancer had relapsed.

The Sunbeamers would have their balloon at the event.

It was then time for the Victory Lap, to celebrate bringing cancer one more step to being conquered.

It was a great end to another great Relay Weekend, with afterparties lasting for hours. But this wasn't truly the end. Smaller parties would go on to Monday and probably today and tomorrow. The campsites remind up for people to look over and try out activities. And there's the "Sink the Sims" Party, aka the Flood Party, on Wednesday at 4PM SL time. The day after that, the teams are then asked to clean up.

For most teams, the Relay Weekend marks the end of activities, though there are a few others. But later this month is the last notable team event, ACTS Royal Ascot. Later this summer is the official end of the season. But there will be other fundraisers this year such as Making Strides and the Christmas Expo. And of course February 2026 when the next official Relay season starts.

Go Relay!

Announcement: Homes For Our Troops 10th Anniversary in Second Life

Frets Nirvana, longtime supporter and contact for Homes For Our Troops in Second Life in conjunction with the US Military Veterans Group, announces the September 2024 10 year anniversary of supporting the Veterans Support Organization Home For Our Troops in Second Life at Veteran’s Isle .

Frets Nirvana states:  “HFOT is a privately funded 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization building specially adapted, mortgage-free homes nationwide for the most severely injured Veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan. Most of these Veterans are multiple amputees, paraplegic, quadriplegic or have suffered severe traumatic brain injury (TBI).  Since its inception in 2004, nearly 90 cents of every dollar spent by Homes for Our Troop has gone to directly support Veterans. DURING THAT TIME HFOT HAS BUILT 393 SPECIALLY ADAPTED HOMES NATIONWIDE FOR EXTREMELY INJURED VETERANS.”

The month of September is special because it marks the 10 year anniversary of supporting HFOT in Second Life.  As a result it will be a month long series of benefit concerts as well as raffles and prizes that benefit this important cause.  One special raffle will be for a completely furnished home from Vila Ballamos and its creator Chillee Hernandoz.  The current schedule is:

A Busy Sunday

Sunday was an active day. It was the last official day for the RFL Christmas Expo, and among the last big events was the "Holidays for Hope" ball. The stage was cleverly designed, looking like a music box. The event lasted from 1 to 6PM.

The Expo wasn't the only event going on. Bay City had it's Christmas Tree Lighting party. with the music provided by DJ GoSpeed Racer and live musicians Melinda M. Baptiste and Erika Ordinary. This was a two hour event from 1 to 4 PM SL time. The event raised a little money for the Child's Play charity.

More pictures later, time permitting.

Announcement: The Goblin Cave Brings Movies Back to The Sunweavers

The Goblin Cave is happy to announce that movies will resume being shown. The screen provided by Cynthia Farshore will run movies from youtube while in the meantime her partner Shockwave Yareach repairs a sever for increase selections and performance. The movies will be shown on Sundays starting at 6PM SLT. This time the movies will be functioning differently than pervious times. The movie starts at 6PM SLT however if you arrive after that time you will still see the beginning of the movie. This is the nature of running from youtube. This will mean that the ones who come in earlier will be seeing the movie more advanced. Please realize that commenting during the movie will be confusing if you are not aware of this. We hope this corrects in the future when the system can run on it's own server but till then at least you have a movie to watch! Since those who come in later will still be seeing the movie the player will be allowed to remain on till all have left the cave. may the ones of the earlier not tell what happens. Also of note, there is a remote monitor on the lower level next to the hot tub so you can relax and watch. The first movie running this Sunday March 18th will be Operation Petticoat.

Sunweaver Community's "Drunken Parrot" Now Open

The "Druken Parrot" pub, although it's been around for a while in Sunweaver Bay, has mostly been a visual attraction, making the Newser only once when it was the location of where to get the basket for an Easter Egg Hunt. But Sunweaver Chieftess Rita Mariner told me that the pub would be active for events once a week at Sundays from 4-6 AM. The floor in the dance area is small, but Rita says patrons are allowed to dance on the tables, preferably after having a virtual drink or two.

Yosemite Brunch

Gemma Cleanslate recently went back to a favorite area of hers, Yosemite. Designed and managed by Jadyn Firehawk, the sim has recently been having a weekly event, a "brunch" every Sunday at 10AM which are, "low-key social gatherings with casual conversation and friendly people to meet." But Yosemite is still known for it's spectacular sights, and activities, of which besides the weekly brunch now includes fishing.

Perri Prinz Back at DJing

Club Cutlass had an offer for someone for someone to DJ in the afternoon of Sunday April 24. But the person never showed up. They were about to cancel when Perri Prinz, whom is still known in the Sunweaver community for her DJing before she went on hiatus stepped up. She played for the planned two hour set, and longer, going into the evening.

Does this mean her hiatus is at an end? She isn't saying. But everyone in the community was happy to hear she was feeling well enough to play again.
