Luna's Empire Fallout Equestria Ghost Hunt

Once again, the Luna's Empire Event sim is hosting a Halloween Ghost Hunt event. But this time, it has a new twist. This year, it has a "Fallout" theme, taking place decades after a civilization-ending event, and this time you take down monsters.

Near the entrance, you pick up some gear, the weapon and a couple HUDs. It is recommended you take off unnecessary HUDs and scripts to lighten your load to make play easier for you, and others.

The lower right HUD keeps track of how much you've been slimed, which happens when monsters touch you, which clogs your screen and reduces the amount of candy you get from busted creatures. It also keeps track of how much candy you have, and what fighter class you are. The HUD on the upper left shows your location on the map, as well as locations of some monsters.

Some monsters can be taken on single-hamded. Others are stronger, and require a team effort. But they drop more candy when beaten. There's also a boss monster in a special area that's only accessible every so often.

You can exchange the candy for prizes near the entrance. While some are pony-themed and not much good for human or furry or tiny avatars, others are useable by most everyone..

The game costs nothing, so if you're a pony of Fallout fan, or like busting monsters in general, come on over and zap away.

A Look At "Luna's Nightmare Night" Pony Ghostbusting Game

Before closing out the Halloween season, the Newser took a look at one of the more interactive Halloween events.  This was "Luna's Nightmare Night," a game in the Luna's Empire Events sim. In this game, the Ghostbuster's connection is obvious with the proton guns. You can pick them up, along with the HUD and map, at several vendors around the sim, one near the entrance at  (50/36/14).

I had a few words with EmpresLuna Starchild, the game's owner.  She told me she had wondered if turnout would be smaller than last year, but it's gotten bigger with over 1,100 different players, with over 65 *million* candies, the tokens awarded in the game, given out.

To get the candies, one goes around with the gun to hunt down ghosts. You weaken them by zapping them with the gun, and when their resistance reaches zero, a trap appears under them and the ghost is caught. And you get a few candies as a prize. But if a ghost touches you, you get slimed and won't get as much candy. As you get slimed more, your vision will look greener and gunkier until it reaches 100%, after which you'll need to wash in a fountain or get the help of a cleaner (more on that later). Some ghosts are tougher than others and will need multiple players to take on.

You can exchange the candies for prizes. This year, there's a lot more variety in the gifts available. And they're not just for ponies. One can get a copy of Ecto-1 for 50,000 candies.

The green slime boss from last year is still around. But there's another boss monster. A pony farmer NPC will ask for some help in trying to take care of some haunted pumpkins. And then Luna shows up to pull something truly dastardly. And it's up to you, and the other 'busters, to save the day. And you get hundreds of candies (if you're not too slimed) for doing it.

When I was there, a number of ponies were doing a video. EmpresLuna told me the title was "Bustin' Luna," and should be up soon.

This is the last day scheduled for the Ghostbusting game. So if you haven't, get in on this Halloween fun.

EOTB: Applications Now Open for Halloween Shop And Hop (Until Sunday)

It may still be August and the time of summer heat and vacationing on beaches. But Linden Lab is already looking forward to the cooler season of autumn, and Halloween. On Friday August 16, they announced they were accepting applications for the Halloween Shop and Hop shopping event.

The Halloween season is fast approaching and our annual multi-region inworld shopping event is coming back. If you are a Content Creator, this is your chance to spook up some sales and reach a large audience with your creepiest and coolest creations!

Those interested in taking part and getting a store at the event need to fill out a form on google docs (here). Participating merchants are required to have a discount on their items in the store, at least twenty percent off, and have at least one gift available to shoppers, whether they're part of the store's group or not. It should be a new one different from previous Shop & Hop events. And the store and items should be appropriate for a Moderate-rated area, and there should be nothing political.

The application form won't be available for long. After Sunday August 25, it will be taken down. It should be noted that applying doesn't automatically mean one is in, the Lab saying they will contact you soon after the date "if your application is accepted." The setting up period is from September 27 to 30.

The Halloween Shop and Hop will start on Friday October 4, and is scheduled to last to Sunday November 3rd.

For more information, check the Linden Blog.

New Halloween-Themed Last Names

Yesterday on Monday October 3, Linden Lab announced six new last names for accounts. This being October, they were Halloween-themed.

Happy October! To celebrate the Halloween season we are releasing new last names today!

The following Halloween-themed names are only available for a limited time.
Demonpaws
Addams
Boo
Vorhees
Macabre
Bitey

The Lab stated the names were available only for a limited time, but may be back next Halloween.

"Demonpaws," "Boo," and "Macabre" are obviously on the spooky side. "Bitey," maybe not so much, though still appropriate for this time of year. "Addams" refers to "The Addams Family," a cartoon and then a few movies based on some of Charles Addams' New Yorker cartoons. "Vorhees" refers to Jason Vorhees, from the "Friday The 13th" slasher movies.

This is the current list of surnames, which presumable will change once more in early November. Holiday-themed names are around only for a short time, but may come back the following year. Usually when a surname is dropped from the list, it is gone for good.

Burn2 Update

It is amazing that a whole year has passed since the 2011 Burn2 event. The playa is humming with activity as this year’s burners begin creating their builds on the six regions. That is two more than last year so there will be more to visit. The temple build is underway as is The Man. Stages are in progress also, to accommodate all the entertainers and djs that will spin for the many parties that will take place.

There are still many people in sl who have never experienced a burn. You can read the history of this event in SL at http://burn2.org/burn2-history. It will give you a background for your visits to the playa. In case you missed the dates, the Bur2n will be open from October 20 Noon SL time through October 28 11: 59. It sounds like a long time, but it will pass so quickly you will miss all the builds if you don’t save time to visit more than once.

I will be a ranger volunteer as I have since 2009. There are many opportunities to volunteer in some capacity. Take a look at the volunteer section in the blog and think about becoming a burner. There is a wealth of information in the blog that will appear as time passes. Keep it in your favorites. As we say to everyone who arrives on the playa, “welcome home.”

Thought Constructs

Within the Walkway Gallery of the Thothica Community, Eleanor Medier's "Thought Constucts" is exhibited. I had the pleasure of attending an elegant SL society event, where art and intellectual thought lovers gathered in their formal favorites. With champagne glasses in hand, they admired the symbolically represented drawings which depict thoughtful wisdom.

The gallery presents a unique, white walled and glassed setting which makes you feel you are elevated and in an almost divine area. Upon the tall, wide walls are an entire series of Eleanor’s images.

"Everyone has wisdom that inspires them from past teachers," explained Medier. "I've translated quotations that have most influenced my thinking and expressed them in visual language."

Eleanor creates her images with pencil and paper - a concept of a feeling and statement she wishes to make. She generates her ideas from events and interactions between the people she meets.

"I can work on an image for months," she told me. "I try it out in several media, too. I draw traditionally and digitally, but I don't use photographs."

She stated that the benefits of making virtual art are many. For one, there is a global audience. Then there is the opportunity to try new ideas. The scale and the vibrancy add drama to the images. Being able to get immediate feedback is another benefit of an
interactive environment.

The exhibit will be featured through October.
