Help Wanted: Artist Needed For Profile Picture of Deathlands Leader

For artists in Second Life, Rebel Wolf (HermitBlue Resident), aka The Baron, the owner of the Deathlands, is looking to hire one. The picture he has in mind is one of his face, for his Second Life profile.

"I want my face portrait drawn for my profile," he explained, "and don't know any good (artists). ... I just want a picture for (my) profile."

People can contact him by IMing if he's on, or by notecard if he isn't. He can also be found at his sim, the Deathlands at Paradise Kingdom (88/35/22), notably at the Fallout Shelter when it has events Sundays 4-8 PM SL time.

Cica Ghost's Drawn Town

Not long ago in the official Second Life blog, Linden Lab put the spotlight on a place made by an artist: "Drawn Town." Designed and built by Cica Ghost, the exhibit is the latest by the Serbian artist whom has made a number of builds ever year since 2013. Klaus Bereznyak took a look at the place, or rather two looks. The place looks quite different at nighttime.

Announcement: Winter 2018 Library Network Contest

The fall season is ended, and the Thanksgiving submissions close on November 30. This means that we also need to start looking toward the next writing event with the Trotsdale Library and Intersim Library Network.

Winter 2018 Library Art and Writing Contests
Open: Now
Deadline Jan 1, 2019

=Suggested theme: "Traditions"=
An entry does not have to strictly stick to the set theme. However it will have more impact if it does. An alternate is also creating your own fable, myth, or tradition.

-Writing Division:-
Write a short poem, essay, or story about your favorite Tradition. It can be from any season throughout the year that is most special to you. Or you can tell me what a tradition is to you, perhaps it doesn't match what someone else thinks of as a tradition. It can even be a personal tradition.

Entries will be judged on grammar, spelling, content, and flow. Consideration will be taken in regards to effort, especially if it is known an entrant is not fluent in or is still learning English. Submissions should be in English. Please try to keep at PG/PG-13 or lower. Submissions rated higher than such will be ineligible.

Prize 500$L

-Art Division:-
Using your favorite medium try to capture the essence of "tradition." If it is non-digital work then either scan or snap a photo of your piece. If presenting an inworld build as your art please send a picture. You can also use SL photography as your artistic outlet. It is suggested that you also write a short piece on what you intend to be conveyed.

Judging will be based on style, apparent capability, evoked feelings and ideas, and how well the artist conveys what they state they intend to convey in their piece. Please try to keep at PG/PG-13 or lower. Submissions rated higher than such will be ineligible.

Prize 500$L

All submissions will be archived with the Trotsdale Library and Intersim Library Network. Text will be read and recorded for video and sound archive. Images will be incorporated into video archival as well. Winners will be announced mid January. If no one enters then the prize money in the prize pool will roll over to the next contest. Prize money will be disbursed from Hanaarashi Resident.

The Thanksgiving contest was a fixed amount prize event. The Winter "Holiday's" Contest is a baseline amount contest. Donations to the prize pool can be sent to Hanaarashi Resident or sent via one of the prizepool book piles. Merchandise or service prize donations please message Amehana Ishtari with a notecard stating what your donation will be and what you would like to see it go out as prize for.

=Submitting=
There are several ways to enter:

* Use the forum archival thread and post your entry below the first message. Paste your writing into the full reply box, or if an art piece you can upload and link to it, or attach to the post.

YadNi Monde, Maker of "YadNi's Junkyard," Needs Help to Continue Drawing

By Bixyl Shuftan

For longtime residents of Second Life, one place many visited in their early days was "YadNi's Junkyard," one of the best known and largest freebie places. Up since at least 2004, newcomers and more established residents on a budget could go there for clothes, avatars, jewelry, weapons, textures, animations, gestures, and more. He also had a few newstands of inworld publications, such as our predecessor paper the Second Life Newspaper. Although it's unknown how many people visited the place, YadNi himself felt the number was many thousands. But in June 2015, YadNi reluctantly took the landmark location down after it had been up for eleven years.

Unfortunately, YadNi hasn't been doing that well financially. After he had to put a small business on hold, he announced on his Facebook page via a Patreon site he had put up that he would need help if he was going to continue his hobby of drawing.

As far as I can remember, I am drawing. And I never stopped, using all tools that would fall into my hands, thus learning different techniques and skills (from analogic to digital). Today is the day where I need some support from all my friends from all over the World. I want to keep creating, to go back to my analogic roots and to do it for You Guys.

I had a chat with YadNi over IM. "Everything got a little complicated," he spoke of his troubles, "I had founded my own 3D personal enterprise. (It) lasted quite a good while, until i came onto a client who didn't honor his payments and put me under. I had to close said enterprise (due to a) lack of reserve money, had to move apartment to a single room, and now I'm totally disgusted in 3D and am going back to my first skills, hands and paper. ... I (had) worked for him for two months and I was always on the edge with money. The simple fact that individual didnt pay the bills, my accountant said there was nothing to save me and I had to close. So I'm starting all over from scratch, hoping to gather enough to restart something serious if possible."

When I brought up his past in Second Life, YadNi responded, "I have mostly been a builder, did work in Second Life for Nike, Toyota, Warner Bros, Alcatel, and many groups and (other) people. I built entire sims, even some stuff others refused because they thought it was impossible to do (Intel sim). I then went to InWorlds, a parallel grid where I did over four or five years building there." He pointed out his one page blog at (https://yadni.blogspot.fr/) that described his beginnings, including where his online name came from. mentioning he had been calling himself in real life as an artist.

Once again, YadNi's Patreon page is at https://www.patreon.com/YadNiMonde . His goal is to get $500 USD a month, at which he'll start holding raffles monthly to send one artwork to one of his supporters.

Reader Submitted: Avatar Artwork

A drawing of my avatar given to me by the multi-talented Alleara Snoodle. If only I could do even half this well.

I never smoked in real life or Second Life, but Alleara told me she was trying to create a "Bogart" look, the old-fashioned gumshoe reporter.

Many thanks Alleara, even if my avatar's feet are too big for most shoes. :-)
