 From Maus Merryjest on June 30, "The ending of my SL20B set. It was a wild time! Five days before my set, I decided I wanted to add an extra song to celebrate SL20, and do an affectionate parody of common topics. I created can-can clicky-heels for people to wear and dance with, and roped some poor unsuspecting innocents into my plot. I wrote the lyrics, and that's when I knew I had gone past the point of no return. Special thanks to my dancers Nix Starchild, Inferna and Greasy Cokes for making this a special moment- and to @secondlife for having me there in the first place. Here's to 20 more years of your awesome, guys!"

 

SL Enquirer Editor Involved in "Karen" Incident

 

 Note: Comedy article, it didn't really happen.

 Lanai Jarrico, the editor of the Second Life Enquirer, can't seem to enjoy a simple coffee in peace these days.

The editor of the publication had supposedly gone into a Starbucks when she was harassed by a "Karen Smithstofferson" who proceeded to accuse her of shoving her and began verbally badgering her, calling her a bad journalist, making a 911 call and complaining to the police she'd been assaulted. Lanai got her coffee and left, but the indignant woman continued to hassle her. Finally the editor whacked her with a rolled up newspaper (presumably hers), fed up with her personal space getting constantly invaded. The verbal assaulter fell onto the sidewalk, dazed. 

 

Police arrived finding Lanai and a third woman giving first aid to Karen, who then proceeded to accuse the editor of assaulting her with a baseball bat. After talking to other witnesses, the policeman told Karen he was letting Lanai go with a warning, then proceeded to arrest the whacked woman for dialing 911 for a non-emergency. Then Enquirer would report someone at Starbucks would give Lanai a lifetime supply of virtual coffee for doing something about "the rash of Karenism spreading like wildfire across various Starbucks, Walmarts, Costco, Target, Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods, Walgreens, Taco Bells, Hobby Lobby, and numerous Hair and Nails Salons."

SL Videos: Linden Lab's April Fool

The Newser's April Fool yesterday wasn't the only one around. Linden Lab had one of it's own that was a poke at Facebook/Meta's Horizon. Or rather, three, in the form of a few Youtube videos. One also parodied the "Lifelock" videos (forum post).

"Finding one's other half" is an expression meaning to find one's soulmate. Though with avatars looking like Horizon ones, it takes on a new meaning (forum post).

Abnor Mole stared in this one as a used leg salesman. Guess his joke had a few legs to stand on, unlike Facebook/Horizon's virtual world (forum post).

News and Commentary: Avajean Westland's Virtually News, and Doing Broadcast News About Second Life

About a week and a half ago, Avajean Westland, a lady with both Second Life and real life acting experience, showed off in front of an inworld audience the debut of her "Virtually News" news parody show. While funny, and not the first spoof news program in Second Life, it got me and a friend wondering. Could a show about actual Second Life news be done?

WoW Music Parody, "Darn I'm Dead Again"

From Mel White, this World of Warcraft machinima is featured as it has the voice of Shockwave Yareach (Alan Kitchen in real life), known for his music parodies.

"My friend, Alan Kitchen, came up with this hilarious filk after hearing his daughter howl in outrage about how much trouble it was to stay alive on Timeless Isle -- and I couldn't resist using it for my second machinima.

"Felinos is a Holy Priest, and leveled as Holy -- because I like challenges. Don't try that "leap across the bridge" unless you -- like Feli -- are raid geared and have the epic quest cape from the Black Prince. Otherwise it won't work. Trust me on this."

Interview With Talia Sunsong, Author of "Twilight of the Star Vampires"

Bixyl Shuftan met up recently with Second Life resident Talia Sunsong. Talia, whom had some experience with journalism in real life, had recently tried her hand at satire, writing a science fiction parody, "Twilight of the Star Vampires." Between book readings, she sat down for an interview.

SL Machinima: "The Twilight Sim - It's a Bloomin' Halloween!"

"When four curious teens decide to enter the spooky house on the hill, is it a frightening dream or a hilarious nightmare? Either way, the eyes have it.

"Running Lady Studios, (RLS) the animation studio that brought you the comedy/thriller "Cruise Control", and Virtual Girl Productions' (VGP) Gameela Wright (AvaJean Westland in Second Life) are teaming up again. Last year they brought you the hilarious 'Coffee Schlock with AJ - Special Guest, Harold Camping.' This year, they have a cooked up a special little treat for your Halloween goodie bags.

"The animated short, filmed on Linden Lab's Second Life game platform, was penned by stage and screen actress Gameela Wright and directed by K. DaVette See (Suzy Q. Yue in Second Life). 'Bloomin' ' pokes gentle fun at Halloween tropes and pop culture icons while following the antics of four teens, a mad scientist, and a trio of precocious little girls. SL Machinima: "Artwashers"

At the UWA's Open-Art Challenge last weekend, there was a contest for machinima. The one that took second place, written about by Rowan Derryth was the film "Artwashers," a clever parody about one advantage of a virtual art museum by Friday Siamendes.

"In many ways, though, this works the same way as visiting a gallery or museum. The work is physical, but we do not usually smell or taste it; and we usually don’t touch it either. In fact, virtual art is even MORE interactive–we can ‘touch’ is and be part of the work. And we don’t have to worry about caretaking and conservation in the same manner as physical work (although virtual works opens whole new problems in these areas). One of the machinima from the UWA challenge that I absolutely loved played upon these ideas was ‘Artwashers’ by 2sense Productions.

"By introducing us to the fictive cleaners at the UWA, the parody cleverly highlights how such a space is so much less complicated that a real museum, allowing the administrative energy to be focused on creativity and education. And that freedom to focus on the creative work has created a wonderful, happy accident."

Even those of us with a poor sense of the artistic can appreciate the humor. Well done, Friday.

"SLAngry Birds"

Some of you have heard about "Angry Birds," the highly successful game for handheld devices, that later were available on computers as well. Apparently, Chantal Harvey took it a step further, bringing it to SL.

With the help of a few friends, she made a funny little SL Machinima based on the game: SLAngry Birds. The set itself was made by Maxamillian Merlin, with a free bird av nearby provided by Madcow Cosmos. The Homestead Sim belongs to Chantal of course. When everyone got together for the machinima, the result was hilarity.

Chantal left the SLAngry Birds build up for anyone who wanted to play with it. She says people drop by "all the time" to give it a try. Find the explosive teddy bear, sit in the catapult, and then launch yourself for a blast.
