H.G. Wells' Exhibit at Netera's Coffee Lounge

Besides running her "Netera's Coffee Lounge" in Second Life, Netera Landar is also a writer of fantasy and science fiction stories published in real life. It's notable the latest exhibit at the Lounge is of a famous science-fiction writer who continues to inspire more than a century after his most famous works were done: H.G. Wells. While the exhibit is somewhat small, it is a tribute fans of the writer will find worth visiting.

Netera's New Coffee Shop

It was about four years ago when I first came across Netera Landar and her Coffee Lounge, giving a chance for aspiring writers and musicians. When we last met up with her, she was busy with real life writing, publishing via Kindle as well as a real life newspaper column.

We recently heard she's been setting up a new Coffee Shop. "I'm starting my chats again," she told me when I dropped by. Of it's smaller size, "It's not the studio but will it will provide an intimate conversation. ... I'll be starting from scratch again, new location, rebuilding my group."

"I'm starting in January, Saturdays or Sundays, when the musician, artist, etc is available. ... This is a promotional vehicle for those I interview, best way to communicate with their followers." She says most of her events will probably be mid-afternoon, around 3PM SL time. She also expressed plans for a class aimed at beginning writers.

SL Newser Featured in "Unforgettable"

Netera Landar, once known for her coffee lounge, has taken up writing for "Unforgettable Magazine" in Second Life. Recently, she interviewed me for the magazine, the article which appeared recently.

The long-term appeal of timely news coverage, sustaining a strong vision through changing ownership, and the commitment of talented contributors combine to give the Newser its prominence.

Unforgetable Magazine describes itself as "dedicated to the  ”unforgettable” people who bring a little joy into our lives through art, writing, and entertainment—the best and brightest from the virtual worlds are featured." Others the magazine has written on include Tuna Oddfellow.

"What's Cookin'?" at Netera's Coffee Lounge

On Saturday January 21st, Netera Landar held a cooking show at her coffee lounge, "What's Cookin?" Chef Jorden Andrew used the Grid and virtual ingredients to show the audience how to cook up a great dish.

Jorden had gotten her start with Second Life cooking a few months before at KK Food & Pastries, " I always wanted t odo something like this," and when she saw the announcement, she auditioned. As it turns out, she used to cook at a San Francisco restaurant. But she doesn't cook so much in real life at the present time. Nor does she grow ingredients, "I don't have a green thumb."

Jorden cooked for a while, both meals and desserts for a diverse audience. "What's Cookin" plans to be a frequent feature, but may not be on every week. Some events will also have different chefs.

Check the schedule at Netera's Coffee Lounge for event times at Terric (43, 137, 28).

Netera's Coffee Lounge Last Interview for the Year

Saturday December the 10th at 11 AM was the last interview at Netera's Coffee Lounge for the rest of the year. She had a few words with singer Harry Frychester, whom later would sing for the audience at the other end of the building.

The Coffee Lounge becomes active again in January with more interviews, and even plans for a cooking show.

Here Be Pirates

Remember when Netera wrote on the Morgan Straits Community/RP sims? Well, this Saturday at 11 AM, representatives of the pirates repaid the visit by dropping in at her Coffee Lounge, talking about goings-on in the sim, and what events took place. Once in a while, things would get a little crazy when someone in a fifty foot King Kong avatar would drop in, occasionally tossing a few rocks at the sips.

And in the audience, there was a "pie rat."

Netera's New Coffee Lounge

Recently Netera Landar had her coffee lounge expanded. Last week on October 1st, I dropped in to see the new place.

Welcome to Netera's Coffee Lounge. Hope you enjoy our informative chat in our new jazzy set. In this venue you'll participate in interviews with real life writers, singers and artists. Below is our current guest schedule. If you are one of the above and would like to be booked, IM Netera Landar in-world.

Her guest that day at 10 AM was Wulfslaird Widdershins, whom was a retired dive team specialist in real life. He had a number of interesting stories about his experiences in the Navy. Among those in the audience was Geo Meek, whom was probably recording.

At 11 AM, musician Ande Foggarty had his turn to be interviewed. Halfway into the hour, the lounge's new dance floor got it's test run, with Ande providing the music.

Besides for more interviews with artists, Netera has something new coming up.

Currently seeking guests chefs and bakers for my new segment, "What's Cooking." IM Netera Landar if you can present a few recipes in an interesting way.

The Coffee Lounge is still in Terric, but the entrance, once at (43, 137, 28) has been adjusted a little.

“Universal Art” Waterfront Shop

Readers of Second Life Newser are most familiar with the Terric sim through Netera Landar’s Coffee Lounge, which will be hosting a couple interviews tomorrow on Saturday at 10 AM. But the sim is home to a number of shops. Among them, the “Universal Art” store at the waterfront area on the northeast corner of the sim. From the coffee lounge, one goes east until the reach the shops, then turn left.

The store is owned by Netera’s commercial neighbor Fatboy21007 Resident. What I noticed about the store is that the prices are quite small, “Frame and picture is 30L, special requests is 35, all other art is 25L.” But he doesn’t refer to Universal Art as a discount art shop, “I just sell them cheap. Something that takes 10L to upload should not cost a person 400 Lindens. I make 15L off each picture, this allows for practically anyone ingame to buy the pictures.”

But before noticing the price, one quickly sees a common theme in the pictures: space. There are various pictures of planets, nebulae, galaxies, stars, and fantastic night skies over alien and fantasy worlds. “We will eventually do all forms of art,” Fatboy explained, “but I love Universe pictures. So I thought I’d start with what I love the most.” But Fatboy is open to new ideas, “If any one has a suggestion, please feel free to IM me.”

“Universal Art” is at Terric (228, 215, 26)

“Have a nice day.”

Interview at Netera's Coffee Lounge

On Saturday, the interview by Netera went smoothly at her Coffee Lounge. A few questions were answered, and hopefully a few that were never asked.

And yes, to answer one guy who IMed me, yes I do sound like that in real life.

Interview at Netera's Coffee Lounge

Tomorrow, I'll be at Netera Landar's Coffee Lounge. But instead of in the audience, I'll be the one being interviewed by Netera. Usually she interviews musicians and poets in front of her audience, but this time they'll be hearing some about the business of running an online newspaper.

The interview is tomorrow, Saturday August 6, at 10 AM SL time, at Terric (43, 137, 28)

Pianist Champagne Rain at Netera's Coffee Lounge

Stopping by Netera's Coffee Lounge on Saturday April 16th, their guest of honor was the talented Champagne Rain. A skilled pianist and singer who performs in real life, she's been making appearances in Second Life recently. This picture was taken while she was both playing the keys, and singing an opera aria.

If you like the classics, by all means drop by an event where she performs.

Later Today

Later today, SL Newser will have a story on Netara's Coffee Lounge. The editor worked on the article, but is simply too tired to finish it for now.
