Weekend in Brief

Quite a bit happened this weekend. On Friday December 15, the Linden Snowball Fight took place. It would also be the closing day of the Team Diabetes Winter Showcase. There were other events, such as the Riny Carolers at Mieville on Saturday December 16, and the "Christmas at Wild Castle" party on Sunday December 17.

We'll have more on some of these stories, and more, when time's available to report in detail.

Bellisseria And Wooburn Beach Parties

August is a hot sweaty month, at least in the USA and much of the world. And what some like to do is head to the beach. On Saturday August 5, I noticed there was a gathering at the Bellisserian Fairgrounds and decided to check it out.  It turned out to be a beach party hosted by the Bell Hammies, with Freddie Harrington DJing the tunes. The hamsters were "hamming" it up with one spinning in the air as a "hamstercopter" going "Wheeeeeeeeee....." And you had partiers throwing confetti in the air.

At Wooburn, Liz Wilner and Wildstar Beaumont were hosting another beach party at the sim's pub. I stopped by briefly, and they were playing tunes and offering snacks.

Life's a beach, but try not to fry.

Reader Submitted: The Privateers Ball Hauls In A King’s Ransom!

Among the events held by the Relay's Team ACTS every year is the Privateer's Ball. On Sunday May 21, it was held in the Rosehaven sim. So how much did it take in? Cynthia Farshore was there, and in her words, it took in "a king's ransom."

Wildstar's Relay Weekend Pictures

With the Second Life Birthday so soon after the Relay Weekend, that cut into our time to post some pictures. But it looks like someone else has. Wildstar Beaumont posted a number of pictures of the track and the various campsites (link). This includes a number of the Sunbeamer's camp (link).

Burn2 Pictures

For those of us who missed Burn2, or want to see the scenes again, while the builds may have come down, there are still the pictures that were taken. Among the photographers was Wildstar Beaumont, who not only took many and put them on his Flickr page, but the pictures were well done.

Relay Weekend Track Closed, Wildstar's 1000-Plus Page Relay Album

I hadn't heard any official word of the Relay Track being closed to traffic (with the SLB so much in the news, maybe it got lost in the chatter). So checking the map, I noticed while the sims were still on the map, the names were gone from all but the permanent American Cancer Society sim. Heading over, the track was indeed invisible from ACS, which is an island once more as the track really is closed.

So this year, no picture of watching the sun set on the Relay track sims.

On the other hand, Wildstar Beaumont has been busy with his Flickr. He recently announced his album of screenshots of the Relay Weekend was ready for all to see. And with over a thousand pictures, there is a lot to see.

RFL Team ACTS Time Traveler's Ball

Saturday March 7 was the first event of Relay for Life's Team ACTS (Aether Chrononauts Tiny Steps), the Time Traveler's Ball. The event started at 12 Noon SL time, and went on for about two hours. All around the place high in the sky, there were items such as a poster of the classic movie "The Time Machine," a DeLorean, a Great War fighter plane, and more.

The event was attended by dozens of avatars, of many types. There were notable Relay personalities such as Holocluck Henly, Avariel Falcon, Prettykitty Gumbo, and others.  "Many thanks again to OldeSoul and Cassie Eldemar and Wildstar Beaumont, without whom this event would not happen!"

Near the end, there was a "tiny riverdance" by the small avatars there. When it was over, Team ACTS had raised enough for a season total of over 125,000 Linden dollars, which puts them at Gold level fundraising.

Christmas Expo Pictures

For those who didn't get much time to see the Relay for Life Christmas Expo last week in Second Life, or are already missing the sights, photographers Wildstar Beaumont and IshtarAngel Micheline (P.S. Hernandez) posted a number of screenshots on their Flickt pages. Some are funny, some are detailed, but all are worth seeing and the sets are a good way to remember this big Christmas event.

Today Last Day Up For the Relay Sims

With the time until the Relay sims come down getting closer, many were taking some time, even if it was brief, to give then another look. I happened to catch this meetup between Trader Whiplash, Gem Sunkiller, and Aryon Dagger.

Fuzzball Ortega was also giving the track a look. As far as yours truly knows, he walked most of the way. Though word has it he was in a go-cart part of the way.

Among the people I ran into was Nancy Clowes, the head of the "Fun Rides and Amusement Parks" group. She introduced me to Pryda Parx, the producer of the Future Shock machinima series.

Valkyrie Ice found an Asian-themed build at RFL Journey. Since she couldn't take it with her, she took a number of picturesque screenshots with her in a Chinese outfit.

There were two announcements in the Relay groups today. One was the time for the "Flood Party, " which was scheduled to be between 5PM and 7PM somewhere in the Relay sims.

Location TBA on Wednesday
Join us one last time for a Farewell party to the Relay Sim.
Dance, party and share your relay memories!

Bring your inner tube to put on and wear your water proof clothes....just sayin.

The other announcement was a sadder one, that after Wednesday, the event would be coming to a close.

Sadly the Relay Sims need to be returned. Campsite clean up must be done by Thursday June 21  11pm slt. We are not responsible for any no copy items left on the sims after that time.

Please try to leave the campsites /builds up until Wednesday night or Thursday if you can, as ppl are still visiting.

For those who want to see lots of screenshots of the Relay Weekend, there is the Relay for Life in Second Life Flickr page. Among the top contributors, Wildstar Beaumont, and IshtarAngel Micheline (Ishtarkiss)

Hurry Up and Explore: Relay Camps Coming Down Today

If you want a look at the Relay sims, today is your last chance to see them. Builders have been asked to pick up their exhibits by 10 PM tonight. A few whom presumably wouldn't be able to log in today have already packed up and left behind empty plots. But there's still much, to see, but not for long. As the day goes by, more will be gone.

Yours truly has spent more time exploring and less writing in order that the builds be documented in pictures. So for now you'll have to see for yourself. And there's more than just fun sites. At the Null Aries designer sim in RFL Courage, I found nine colorful geode stones and a display case.

There was much to see, both above ground and below, pristine forest and hillsides, and well done brick and marble structures. And a lot more.

The Newser will have more pictures later. For now, Wildstar Beaumont has provided a massive archive of finely detailed pictures of this years Relay Track sims. As for the traditional "flood party," word has it there will be an announcement at 4PM today SL time about the time and place.
