Abnor Mole At Work

They're the occasionally celebrated but often overlooked workers of Linden Lab: the moles. Hired from Second Life's population of residents, they build Linden Lab's infrastructure, and sometimes help out with events. Recently, a tip from a friend of the Newser led to a chance encounter with Abnor Mole while he was working on Bellisseria's new Linden Home area. As there was a crowd watching, some questions were asked, and the mole with the small robot avatar took a little time to answer. He also volunteered some information as to the source of the Lab's pickle jokes in the area.

SSP/Bellisseria Update

The new landmass, the SSP land, or Bellisseria as the name has been recently been revealed to be, is starting to be placed. South of the Sansara continent, part of it appeared.

Many of the sims on the new land have been renamed.

Some of the sims on the southern part have yet to be placed.

From the continent of Jeogeot, there's a string of water sims. Currently one can almost but not quite fly or sail to the new land mass. It is still closed to the public.

At the Home and Garden Expo, it was revealed that the new continent will be where the new Linden Homes are.

SSP Region Update

The SSP sims, the new mystery continent, remain off-limits to regular residents. But there had been a few visible changes on the map in the past month. On the SSP2 QA Test sim to the northwest, there's an image of a mouse appearing. In the middle of the landmass, a build with orange rectangles has appeared. Then there's the whimsical message on the SSP124 sim. The land was sculpted to say when looked at from the map "OSSM takes time," with a smiley face in the corner.

Presumably, "OSSM" means "awesome," and the moles are saying it's going to be a while before the region is ready to go public.

No date has been given as to when the sims in the region will be ready and opened to the public. It is believed the sims are intended to be residential areas, though Linden Lab isn't saying what the "Super Secret Project," to use the name described what "SSP" stands for at one Town Hall meeting, are for.

SSP Region Update

Tyche Shepherd's first Grid Status Report of 2019 on January 6 had some things of note, such as an increase of 11 sims that week, seven private and four Linden-owned. But these four had the letters "SSP" as part of the title,ssp65X, SSP66X, SSP67X, and SSP92X, and along with nearby SSP2 QA are apparently part of Linden Lab's
mystery SSP region, which is just to the south. With these new sims, the total is now slightly larger, now 389 sims in total size, though almost all the sims are part of the main mass which has been around since August.

Since the Newser's last update on the area a few months ago, the amount of change has been more gradual. But some of the sims have slowly taken on more detailed looks. Many of them from above resemble streets and homes, which could be a sign the area will be a new area of Linden homes. While this has been suggested, the exact purpose for the region has never been officially confirmed.

In a Town Hall meeting, one Linden stated SSP stood for "Super Secret Project."

SSP Region Update

Since last week's update on the SSP sim region, which appeared in late August, there's been a few minor changes. A few sims such as SSP119 have been changed to look like something artificial in contrast to the island's natural features. What look like piers and jetties are being set up along the shoreline in places. SSP150 has what looks like a picture of a snake over the sim. There's also a new sim just north of the landmass: SSP2 QA Test.

SSP Region Update

It was a little more than two weeks ago since the new mystery landmass was spotted at the north of the Second Life map. A week ago, the area had been expended to 384 sims in size. This week, the southern part of the land which was undefined flat green land has become a lot more detailed. There are mountainous areas, rivers, inland seas, barrier islands, and more.

One other change was the sim with the smiley face last week: SSP124. It was altered to look surprised with an "Ooo! Moar!" quote.

There is still no word as to just what function these sims have. At least not yet.

New SSP Landmass Expanded to Nearly 400 Sims

Remember the eighty-sim Linden-owned landmass that Tyche Shepherd discovered last week? The area is now considerably larger, or as Tyche put it, "SSP Got Bigggggger," having grown by over 300 sims. It is now 384 sims in size.

Less than half of the mass of land has been detailed into sea, mountains, rivers, and lakes. The majority still appears to be default green flat land. This is sure to change as time goes on. But among the new sims that was detailed was SSP124, which was made up of islands that looked like a smiley-face with the word "Hi!" and waving back at those looking at it from above. As Tyche put it, "Do they know I'm watching?" The answer seems to be yes.

There's still no word from Linden Lab on what the land is for, though that hasn't stopped speculation, one person commenting after Tyche's post that she thought it would be for both Linden homes and a new game. It's possible that the details will be revealed in the Town Hall with Ebbe Linden next month. In any case, stay tuned for more information.

Taken at the Pooley sim. There, the most prominent land feature was this island shaped like a footprint. Of the small pier, word has it they're a good place to fish for sole.
