Reader Submitted Picture: Dragon Clones

Taken by Cynthia Farshore. On Saturday January 7, DJ Geerkil, Cutlass' dragon DJ appeared with his following of several dragons. They had been a variety with no two looking quite alike. Then all of a sudden, the others turned into "Geerclones."

Cartoon of the Day: Making Christmas Drag On

Taken at Club Cutlass. The normally large DJ Geerkil shrunk down so he could join the crowd. As for why wearing the Christmas lights, I could think of one reason.

The "Platinum Avatar Challenge"

On Monday, Team Sunbeamers of the Relay for Life in Second Life finally reached Platinum Level fundraising, 250,000 Linden dollars or about $1000 USD. And so came what's become a tradition among the Sunbeamers and their friends: The Platinum Avatar Challenge.

For yours truly, for the third time I would be something I haven't been before. This time it was a pink avatar. *But*, I didn't say what kind it would be. So in a slight twist of the challenge two years ago, I appeared as a pink "Rita clone." I revealed the new look at 4PM At the Happy Vixen yesterday. It got a few chuckles, thought not as many the first time I pulled it off. Rita herself, whom doesn't think much of being a pink bunny didn't have much of a comment this time. My own "bubblegum crisis" will be for a week, baring those occasions when I'm obviously doing something for the Newser, such as interviews and covering the Fantasy Faire.

This time, I was joined by others in the challenge. Nydia Tungsten had offered to go purple for a week. And so yesterday the normally white vixen was sporting a shade of amethyst  But it was DJ Geerkil and his Dragon Crew teammates LS Raccoon and JB Raccoon that made the biggest change: going as Yinglet avatars. Geers had read up on the lore of the usually amusing small beings from the "Out of Placers" online comic, and found the creatures interesting. For someone used to huge avatars though, shrinking to being just a few feet high took some getting used to. On the other hand, fitting behind the DJ booth and dancing with others on the dance floor was now no trouble. The three stated they'll be staying in these appearances for three months. Definitely "above and beyond the call of duty." We'll keep them well-stocked with clams and oysters.

But the Relay goes on. The Sunbeamers are planning another "Bid Me" event this week, and there will be other chances this month to raise some funds, such as the Relaystock. With Platinum having been achieved, next the Sunbeamers are after Jade level fundraising, which is 500,000, a half million, Linden dollars. A daunting task, but we've done it before. And yes, I'll wear the "Bix Bilby" avatar again.

Go Sunbeamers! Go Relay!

Interview With Geerkil Ziskey, the Dragon DJ

DJ Geerkil has been written about before by the Newser as part of the "Dragon Crew," part of a team. Lately though, on occasion he's been "the dragon alone" as schedule changes mean he's sometimes without a co-DJ, which for a while helped him inspire conversation and banter between songs. Recently, Deaflegacy met up with him and had a few questions about his music playing.

Read Deaflegacy's interview in People.

"Livin' Large" at Club Cutlass

At Club Cutlass last Saturday, things got a bit on the giant side as DJ Geerkil, whom is in his dragon avatar almost all the time, was joined by a few of his wyrm friends. Plus Becky Shamen switched to a Colossus avatar.

I didn't hear any "Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman" jokes. Though as she was wearing shorts, none of the guys got a chance to upskirt her.

Reader Submitted: The Dragon Crew at Club Cutlass

Picture submitted by Cynthia Farshore and Shockwave Yareach. On Saturday January 19, the Epic Failure Show, sometimes called the Dragon Crew, took it's act to Club Cutlass. DJ Geerkil, the purplish dragon on the left, is usually the largest avatar when he plays music. But some of his big fans showed up, and they were big in stature as well, making him look a bit small in comparison. "Wow. You don't often see so many dragons," one of the people below commented. When someone wondered if the ceiling might buckle, Shockwave, who was around, responded with a grin, "Not MY roof." He explained when he and Cynthia were building the club, he was in charge of the roof, so he assured everyone it could accommodate the draconian passengers easily.

Announcement: "DJ Naughty Nydia's Twisted Christmas Special" At The Happy Vixen Tomorrow

It's that time of year again....a week from Christmas and just so damn tired of the saccharine sickeningly sweet yule tide pablum being spoon fed down our throats by every media outlet in the world to make sure they get their share of the pie.  It's enough to make even the most charitable soul scream "Bah Humbug!" So on that note, it's time for the "Twisted Christmas" special event. This event will have numerous funny songs and parodies from mild to wild to "Oh-Em-Eff-Gee, what were they thinking?!" There will be adult songs, so those with sensitive ears beware. So come on over and "stick it" to the sappy side of Xmas.

Joint-Team RFL Event at Club Cutlass Raises 34,000 Lindens

Sunday July 8 was the day of the dual-team Relay for Life event at Club Cutlass. The Sunbeamer team, whom were the team of the Sunweaver Estates of which Cutlass is the main club, were the hosts of the event. With them were members of Meli's Maniacs, whom brought their own kiosk for the event, which was placed in front of the DJ booth, besides the Sunbeamer one for the occasion.

Starting at Noon, Jenneh Thursday of Meli's Maniacs spun the music for the first hour in her small pixie avatar. At 1PM, it was DJ Geerkil, whom in his huge purple dragon avatar was too big for the DJ booth but sat overhead as he played the music. At 2PM, DJ JB took over the music. As they played, a few other Relayers such as Bain and Panza Finch dropped in. To wish the teams well, and make their own donations.

Over the next few hours, the totals continued to add up. It wasn't long before the total raised passed 10,000. Then came 20,000. Then 30,000. By the time the event came to a close, 34,000 Linden dollars had been raised, split evenly between the two teams at 17.000 each. This brought to total amount raised by the teams to 534,000 for Team Sunbeamers and 92,000 for Meli's Maniacs.

Club Cutlass is at Sunweaver Bay (114/117/757).

Zeta Valley Beach Wharf Club

Geerkil Ziskey has DJed in a number of places, such as at the Happy Vixen and Club Zero Gravity. But lately, he's been wanting to put some new life into where he started out performing music: Zeta Valley. Recently, he and the rest of the Dragon Crew have rebuilt a club in the area, renaming it the Zeta Valley Beach Wharf Club, hoping to attract numbers of people to the sim.
