Call for Candidates for the 37th Term of CDS Government

It's election time in the Confederation of Democratic Simulators. Unlike most places in Second Life, the CDS chooses it's leadership. And twice a year, they have an election for their Representative Assembly and their Chancellor.

The schedule for this spring's election go as follows:

April 8 - Census of citizens for eligibility to run for office

April 15 - Citizen qualification deadline for right to vote

April 18 - Call for Candidates for Chancellor and for RA

May 1 - Deadline for Declaration of Candidacy

May 4 - Dean posts list of candidates

May 7 - Campaigning starts

May 14 - Polls open

May 21 - Polls close

May 22 - 31, incoming RA take their affirmations of office and members meet to elect their officers

June 1 - The RA and Chancellor of the 37th Government of the CDS take office.

It was on April 17, a day early, that the Call for Candidates went out.

Today (April 17) is the first day to declare your candidacy for the offices of Representative Assembly (RA) and Chancellor. These are very important offices for our CDS Community. When we elect these representatives we are electing friends and neighbors to work on our behalf to set the direction of our community, enact our laws and regulations, and manage all the tasks that keep the CDS a wonderful place to live. Now is your time to participate and declare candidacy.

So far, one person, Almut Brunswick, has declared his intention to run. More will certainly follow in the next ten days.

In contrast to many real-life elections, the CDS elections have remained largely drama-free for some years.

Stay tuned for more information.

A Moment At The CDS

The other day, I dropped by the Confederation of Democratic Simulators to chat with Chancellor Rosie Gray for a few minutes. It's been a quiet time at the community, though there have been some events, such as an upcoming one there will soon be an announcement for. She was also looking forward to the Oktoberfest festival this fall.

Besides that the Confederation chooses it's leaders, the sims have a number of sights to see with beautiful scenery with detailed hills and landscapes.Feel free to drop by when you have a moment.

The Mad Hatter's Ball is a whimsical and fun fancy dress ball with a theme inspired by the Lewis Carrol classic, "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland".  The Hatter is a Victorian-era hat maker to the Queen; he is not angry, but he is crazy-silly-fun "mad".  Brooke Brandenburg has transformed the Ballroom into the Wonderland world of the Mad Hatter.  Rosie Gray's event poster spectacularly captures the spirit of the event.

We have two amazing performers who will lead the festivities, our own DJ QT and Maximillion Kleene!

DJ QT will open the Ball at 1130 SLT.  Live from Holland, QT recently entertained us during the fun dancing-in-the-rain April Showers event.  We are excited to welcome her playful mix of rockabilly, blues, 60’s, 70’s, 80’s music back for our Ball!

Maximillion Kleene takes the mic at 1200 SLT.  Max is a live singer in Niagara Falls, Canada and winner of multiple Avi-Choice Awards over the years.  He has been thrilling audiences in SL since 2007 with his musical magic and vast repertoire of quirky, classic, and current covers.  See http://wslpromo.net/max-kleene/ for Max's bio and song list.

QT will return to the live stream at 1300 SLT for the final hour of our celebration.

The CDS Inaugural Ball celebrates the incoming Chancellor and members of the Representative Assembly for the 33rd term.  The Oath of Office Ceremony officiated by the Dean, will take place on Monday 25 May at 1200 SLT.  All are welcome to attend.

CDS Election Season

While October is simply Halloween in most places, for the Confederation of Democratic Simulators there's more going on. Once again, it's election season there.

Our community has celebrated its 15th birthday this fall but to grow and stay successful we need your participation!

If you own land a CDS citizen in good standing please consider to run for an office as member of our government.

For those not familiar with the CDS, the community bills itself as Second Life's oldest experiment with democracy. Twice a year, it chooses it's Chancellor and the members of their Representative Assembly. To be able to run for office, or to be able to vote, one has to own land there. Those interested notify the Dean of the Scientific Council by Tuesday October 29 at Noon SL time.

So far, three people have declared their intentions to run for the 32nd Representative Assembly: Cathy Sabre, Rosie Gray, and Tanoujin Milestone. As of now, the incumbent Chancellor Kyoto remains unopposed.

The campaigning of the candidates for Chancellor and RA officially starts on Saturday November 2, and will most likely have rules on where signs can and cannot be placed. There will also most likely be opportunities to meet the candidates and hear where they stand on issues. Recent elections have shown a remarkable lack of drama compared to some in real life.

The polls open on Saturday November 9 at Noon SL time, and will remain open to Friday November 15 at Noon SL time. Shortly afterwards, the Dean of the SC will announce the winners.

CDS Swearing In Ceremonies

On Wednesday May 29, the winners of the elections earlier this month in the Confederation of Democratic Simulators were sworn in. The ceremony took place at the Praetorium of Colonia Nova at 1PM.

"The affirmation of office is a public declaration that in the office to which you have been duly elected," told the members of the 31st Representative Assembly, "you will solemnly affirm to uphold the Constitution of the CDS and take the duties of the RA seriously. So please if you would, insert your own name into the RA affirmation and read the text into the local chat:

"I,  .... , having been elected as a Member of the Representative Assembly of the Confederation of Democratic Simulators, do solemnly affirm that I will faithfully discharge my duties as such to the best of my ability, that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the Confederation of Democratic Simulators, and that I will preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of Confederation of Democratic Simulators."

Each of the RA members gave their oath, including MadmaxSoulLover Resident. the freshman."Thank you everyone," he told the people, "I am truly honored." "Yay! I'm no longer the newest newbie!" commented Lyubov, " Boy we have work for you Max!" Han Held, a former Chancellor, commented, "I'm excited to see our government filled with 'new blood'; this is awesome!"

Chancellor Kyoko Furse-Barzane (Samara Barzane)'s reelection was a formality as she was unopposed, but reaffirmed her oath to office at the ceremony.

The Inaugural Ball will be on the weekend after next, on Saturday June 8.

No scripted signage is permitted in any location, other than a simple notegiver that hands out your info when touched. Please limit signage to a land impact of 3. It may be practical to make your signs fullbright, to be seen in all light conditions but please avoid glow, as it can be quite erratic and make signs unreadable in some viewers.

Campaign events are encouraged, and can be announced in group notices and group IMs. But campaign material cannot be distributed this way. The candidates are also expected to conduct their campaigns in a civil and respectful manner.
