The New Panda Jenn's Pad

 

Earlier, we reported that Panda Jenn was rebuilding her place in Second Life, Panda Jenn's Pad. She just announced that the rebuilding has been completed enough to officially reopen to visitors. 

 

Previously of an Asian-inspired design, the new Pad at Zeta Valley is a Wild West saloon. It boasts games such as a playable poker table and pool table, as well as a mechanical bull. There's also a second floor, which has a bedroom or two, for those looking for activities of a more private kind. 

 

In the back is a dance floor where presumably the parties in the future will be held. 

 

Besides the saloon, there's other buildings around, giving the place the feel of a Wild West town. This includes a general store, although none of the items are for sale to visitors. On the street, there's a pair of gunfighters staring one another down. Careful about startling them, they'll liable to draw their guns at the slightest poke.

 

As of now, there are no scheduled events, but this may change soon. 

 

So feel free and drop by for a ride on the mechanical bull or play some poker with a friend.

The Pink Power Rodeo, And The "Haunted Wild West And Saloon Ride"

 

 The Pink Power Rodeo is going on. This "Making Strides For Breast Cancer" event is taking place in a temporary area north of the American Cancer Society sim: Pink Power Hope and Pink Power Country. 

There's much to do here. There are music events. There are cowboy-themed competitions such as a bull-riding contest. People outside the contest can also ride the bull, though there's no record of who rode it the longest. There's a stable for getting horses to ride around. And there's a track around the two sims for people to walk laps around.

One interesting thing I saw was in the town in the northwest corner of Pink Power Country. Brian Topp and theme park ride designer Nance Clowes had made a "Haunted Wild West and Saloon Ride" for the Rodeo. The carts for the ride look like small covered wagons. When someone rezzes one and boards it, he or she is greeted by a ghostly bartender, telling them that while some of the ghosts in the saloon are just there to relax, others have "a bone to pick with the livin'." And so the ride goes through a number of spooky encounters, some amusing, some more on the scary side.

The last day of the Pink Power Rodeo is today, Sunday October 25. The Saloon Ride, and other attractions, may be up a day or two longer, but no guarantee.

The Hanging Trial

Reader Submitted: Tombstone, Roleplay in the Wild West

Deesue Parx recently sent Second Life Newser a reader submission about a roleplay area: Tombstone. Set in the Arizona Territory at the end of the 19th Century, this Wild West RP has gone on for a few years. There, one can take on a variety of roles from townsfolk, to outlaw, to Apache Indian, to your run of the mill cowboy.

The Dusty Streets of Dodge City

Gemma Cleanslate recently went to an active recreation of a Wild West community: Dodge City. In this roleplay area, the residents reenact life in the American West in the 1870s. From Cheyenne braves, to soldiers in Fort Hawker, to outlaws, and of course the townsfolk trying to make a living, the place has many kinds of people, and is still looking for more.
