The Second Life Marketplace can be a convenient place to shop. But sometimes, there's just no substitute for being in an actual shopping center. One place to shop, notably for your avatar needs, is the Avagora Avatar and Mod Mall.
Located high above the Montecito Bay sim, there are dozens of shops and stores to browse around and buy in. They include Dawn Kingdoms, Aventity, Happy Paw, SKS Designs, Dinkies, Furry Fashion Critters, Kahoots, and more. For avatar and mod makers looking for a place to sell inworld, they can ask Becky Nosferatu for a free space, with 100 prims available for avatar shops, and 50 prims for shops selling mods.
Becky had a message for avatar and mod makers interested in getting a place here, "You're probably asking yourself what the REAL catch is, and I can promise you, there isn't one. The reason for this is simple; I run the Avatar Maker's Guild and have made my own avatars and mods for many years. Back in the day there used to be several sims dedicated to avatar vendors. Those sims are long gone or are difficult and expensive to rent at for little to no traffic. I have seen many avatar makers/modders come and go and I have seen some amazing things done with very little notice from people. For the sake of makers and customers, I want to reimagine those original, creator focused sims. I want to see a single location that avatar makers and modders can come together in order to showcase their works and to make it easier for your customers to find what what they're looking for. This is the vision of what I want to see in SL once again. Of course, the Marketplace already allows for that, but where's the fun of actually going and shopping in SL? So that's why the Avagora exists, and why it's free to you."
Montecito Bay has other reasons for people to visit. There are two active clubs with weekly events, an arcade that recently installed new bowling games, and the Magican Productions and Twilight Imaginarium store (separate from Avagora).
On Friday Novemeber 22 at 2PM SL time, a small memorial event was held in honor of Lacy Musketeer, whom passed away this summer.
Hi folks, we're finally ready to do the memorial for Lacy. It will be held at 2pm on the 22nd of Nov. We'll send out LMs a little while beforehand. If you have a group that she was involved in or who would like to show your support, please contact Oscelot Haalan to see about having your group logo placed on a banner for the ceremony. Lacy Day will actually be a yearly art day always held on her birthday for artists to work and chat together. Lacy Day and her memorial in Nisa were two separate events.

Christmas is coming. For Second Life, it means a number of things from Christmas displays to holiday music to parties. And of course, it also means shopping. Linden Lab has been getting into the act with inworld Christmas shopping events. A few days ago, they announced on the official blog that the next such event would be taking place again and asked for merchants to sign up for it.
Winter is coming...and that means festive tunes, glitzy decor, snuggly scarves, and lots and lots of shopping adventures.
Our last big inworld shopping event for SL16B was a great success, and this is gearing up to be another one for the books.
Like previous years, we’re winding up for a winter inworld shopping
event - and we’re now looking for Merchants who would like to
participate!
This event, which opens on December 13th, 2019 and runs through January
6th, 2019, is an opportunity to bring a ton of new customers to your
brand, offer some of your best items, and celebrate the holiday season
in a huge shopping event across several Regions.
We are looking for merchants willing to offer a discount on some of
their items (think Cyber Monday deals!) and provide a small gift to
holiday shoppers.
Merchants interested in taking part need to fill out a form (here), and have it done by Wednesday November 27. The event is scheduled to start on December 4.

For the second year in a row, Linden Lab is organizing an inworld shopping event for the Christmas season. And they need merchants to sign up to take part.
... Winter is coming...and that means it’s time for cheerful greetings, the spirit of giving, and lots of festive music!
Like last year, we’re winding up for a winter inworld shopping event -
and we’re now looking for Merchants who would like to participate!
Our last big inworld shopping event for SL15B was a great way for us to
see how big these events can be - and we’re adding in some extra space
for shoppers, to make sure access to all the steals and deals is much
better.
This event, which opens on December 17th, 2018 and runs through January
4th, 2019, is an opportunity to bring a ton of new customers to your
brand, offer some of you best items, and celebrate the holiday season in
a huge shopping event across several Regions.

their items (think after Thanksgiving and Cyber Monday deals!) and
provide a small non-exclusive gift to holiday shoppers.
Merchants interested in taking part are asked to fill out a form (here). Tomorrow November 27 is the last day to sign up. At one minute after Midnight, no more will be accepted.
Yesterday, November 15 at 10 AM, was the time of the Town Hall. Oz, Patch, and Grumpity Linden were joined by Xiola on stage as they talked to the residents in the audience. They answered a number of questions that had been posted in the forums. At the end was a short Q and A taking some additional questions from the crowd.
There were a number of question answered. Will there be resident to resident auctions? Not until next year. Will Premium residents have some choice in their style of Linden Home? Yes. What does the SSP in the new mystery continent stand for? "Super Secret Project."
On the issue of bringing back last names as an option for new residents and allowing those who don't have them to get one, "As with many things in Second Life, it's complicated. A lot of things in the background we need to upgrade." They stated that it was looking like last names would not be back until sometime in " the second quarter of next year" at least. As for how much the fee would be, one stated, "on the order of a few months of premium membership" or close to $30 USD, "not impossible, but not throwaway money."
Addition: I've been hearing from others that getting a last name or changing one's last name for an account may be limited to Premium Residents. So for a free player looking to get a last name could be spending about $40 USD.
Another Linden Lab Town Hall, this time with Director of Product Grumpity Linden, Technical Director Oz Linden, and Senior Director of Product Operations Patch Linden.
Just a reminder, the Town Hall with Oz Linden, Grumpity Linden, and Patch Linden is tomorrow, November 15. As of the writing of this brief, Linden Lab has yet to give the location of the Town Hall, but they have given a time: 10 AM to 11 AM SL time.

About two months following their Town Hall event with CEO Ebbe Altberg/Ebbe Linden, Linden Lab will be having another. On the official Second Life blog a few days ago, it was announced that there would be a Town Hall event on Thursday November 15. It will take place 10 AM to 11 AM SL time. Speaking will be Oz Linden (who is called Linden Lab's "Director of Product"), Grumpity Linden (Senior Director of Engineering), and Patch Linden (Senior Director of Product Operations).
Collectively, these three have over 28 (!) years of experience working
on Second Life and work closely with all the Second Life teams to
continue to improve this platform that we’ve all come to love.
They are some of the biggest stakeholders in the direction of the product development roadmap each year, and know the product inside and out!
People with questions they would like answered by these three are invited to post them in the Town Hall Meeting forum thread, and do so before November 9. The Lab will chose which of these questions to answer during the event.
Ebbe Linden wants to speak to you and answer your questions. But you'll have to send them in advance. And it appears he'll be speaking to you from another inworld location.
In the official Second Life blog on Friday April 13, there was an announcement that the CEO of Linden Lab, Ebbe Altberg, or Ebbe Linden as his avatar on the Grid is named, would be speaking to an inworld audience at a "Town Hall Event" as an early part of the fifteenth anniversary celebrations of Second Life.
To
kick things off, Linden Lab CEO Ebbe Altberg will be holding two “Town
Hall” chat sessions on April 20th at 9:30 a.m. (SLT/Pacific) and 1 p.m.
(SLT/Pacific). Ebbe will be sharing his vision for Second Life in 2018
and beyond, as well as taking questions from the community. Got a
question for Ebbe? Post it in the Community Forum thread “A Conversation with Linden Lab CEO Ebbe Altberg”
in advance of next week’s meeting. Questions will be selected from
submissions for as many as can be answered in the time frame. To join
either meetup, head over to oneofthese Town Hall Regions in Second Life on April 20.
As the Linden blog states, Ebbe will not be taking questions from the audience, but they are being taken in advance. Users are invited to ask questions in this forum thread. The Lab will select which of the questions will be used in the Town Hall event.
The post stated three locations for the event. So this strongly suggests Ebbe will be at neither place, but that instead he will be at a third location inworld to answer questions while the audience sees his broadcast, like at the VWBPE Conference last month. It also stated that this would be just one of "numerous appearances." So expect more Town Hall style events, presumably some during the Second Life Birthday. But there may be some in the weeks leading up to the anniversary event.
Linden Lab also stated "In the coming months, we plan to hold additional conversations and meetups directly with many of our communities ...." The community they listed was Bay City, though they also brought up "Firestorm users/developers," as well as the Second Life media group "Designing Worlds."
Daniel Voyager was on the scene when Bay City had an unusual guest: The head of Linden Lab Rod Humble, also known as Rodvik Linden.
Rodvik Humble who is CEO of Linden Lab today came inworld for about half
an hour to hang out with SL residents in the Weston region in Bay City.
A large crowd formed around Rodvik within minutes and had a interesting
discussion. The reason that Rodvik Humble came inworld will be revealed
soon. Wooooot!!!!
Bay City wasn't the only place Rodvik stopped by. Jo Yardley of the 1920s Berlin Project documented his dropping over there as well.
I had invited Herr Humble for a free tour of the sim a while back and was told he would be dropping in today. It was great to finally meet his avatar in person. The welcoming community of 1920s Berlin was very excited to have him as a guest and we all hope his avatar will come more often.
Rodvik Linden is not known to visit the Grid often, at least not recently. Earlier in 2011 not long after becoming CEO, he did make an effort in "getting immersed in Second Life" and he did make an appearance at SL8B. Since then however, Rod hadn't been noticed. Do these visits mean the head of the Lab will take the time to visit inworld more often. Time will tell.
