Whatever Happened to ... ? Club Fur

Readers may have noticed that Club Fur, on the record as the oldest furry-themed clubs, is no longer on the Newser's SL Clubbin' schedule. The reason is, not only is it inactive, it is no longer part of the Sunweaver Estates, which provides the land for the paper's office, or anywhere else in Second Life. Club Fur has been removed and back in the inventory of Alynna Vixen (Alynna O'onthrera Trypnotk). And Alynna hasn't been inworld since May.

Club Fur has had an interesting history, going back to 2004 according to Alynna. At one point it was described as being removed from an old location less than two minutes before the place was "flattened." It was in Furnation for a time before it ended up in Alynna's hands in 2009, whom eventually took it to Kitsuhana sim where it was reopened in November 2010. In June 2013, the club moved back to Furnation following the reopening of the sim. But in November 2014, Alynna brought the club to the Sunweaver sim of Sunweaver Bay, soon moving to to Sunny Beach where it would remain for a little while until Alynna's items were packed away earlier this year.

The club was known for it's bright neon colors, it's symbol was a neon tube shaped into a cat's head. During it's time in Kitsuhana, there was an effort to make the club active by the "Furry Club Alliance," but the stepping down of a few personnel made regular events just too difficult. It did take part in some events such as when the world failed to end on December 21, 2012. The club was also duplicated in InWorldz for a time.

While there is of course the possibility the club will come back, when something vanishes in Second Life, more often than not it's for good. While it's sad when any club vanishes, it's especially so in this case as this one had lasted so long, and for a time was part of the community yours truly calls home.

Club Fur back in Furnation

Since the closing of the Furnation Prime sim in 2009, Club Fur has been owned by Alynna Vixen. It was moved to Kitsuhana, and reopened in November 2010. It stayed high above the sim for a few years, until a few days ago when Alynna announced that the Furnation Prime sim was back, and she had moved the club back there. She is looking for DJs and hosts & hostesses.

Now that the sim is back, there's no reason the club should not follow.   Please accept the new landmark.  We should be reopening in about a week or two.

Club Fur is the oldest furry-themed club in Second Life, possibly the oldest club still around. It is a member of the FCA club alliance. It's new location is FurNation Prime (55, 31, 21).

The Newser Xmas Party

Yesterday at  Noon, Second Life Newser held it's Xmas party, with the help of Nydia Tungsten whom offered to be the DJ. The event was originally going to be at Cova's Cove, but Covadonga Writer couldn't be there. So the event was moved to the beach near Nydia's home in Kitsuhana. There, she entertained the crowd with her set of Christmas tunes. Some classical, some a little twisted. When Grease Coakes showed up, she played DJ Shockwave's parody of "Grandmother Got Run Over by a Reindeer" that was a bit raunchy, "I'm sorry, but I just *had* to play this one. Hee hee!"

Other songs included "Christmas in Dixie," a "Married with Children" tribute to "The Night Before Christmas," "Trans-Siberian Orchestra," "Chipmunks Roasting on an Open Fire,"and more.

Due to schedule conflicts, the Newser staff couldn't be there all at once, but all of the active writers did show up: Grey Lupindo, Gemma Cleanslate, DrFran Babcock, and Grease Coakes. A number of friends showed up as well. Among those who did were DJ Qwark, Club Cutlass's manager Jenni Greenfield, Dayafter Productions owner Jessicabelle Dayafter, and Areo Pines Park owner Cindy Bolero. One little microfox friend dropped by whom I hadn't seen in a few years.

It was a great time had by all.

Classic Club from 2004, Club Fur, Returns

Nydia Tungsten recently met up with me with some news, “some big changes are coming. It is well known that Illusions is our sister club. Well, we are now teaming up with SpiritValley to help revive SL's oldest furry dance club ... Club Fur. So the four clubs are going to be working together. From what I have been told, it is Second Life's first furry club.” Nydia went on to say, “the four clubs are going to be working together.”

Club Fur has been owned for the past year by Alynna Vixen, “I always had the ability to make this club rock. I just don't have the ability to run it alone. ... We're kinda joining a conglomeration of clubs. ... Hopefully the new staff will do more with it.” Nydia responded, “Well, we are forming it.”

Alynna was told by the previous owners the club was built in 2004, which makes it one of the oldest clubs in Second Life regardless of genre. Club Fur’s wiki (started in 2005), states that it’s form “was partially inspired by the work of Frank Lloyd Wright,” at one time sitting over an ocean, much of the floor was made of glass plate so people could see under the water. The wiki describes an interesting history, supposedly at one point rescued from an old home "two minutes before they leveled the place." Before Alynna, it sat in Furnation Prime. She described it as not being used very much. When Furnation Prime closed, she was given the club, where it was moved to Kitsuhana, a sim of the Sunweaver Estates.

Located high above the ground, the club looks like it’s in the middle of space, a neon cat’s face on top slowly rotating. It’s glass wall gives a clear view into the interior from one side. Inside, the middle and back of the club is illuminated with neon lights and whirling beams of color. To the side of the club is a bar with the front end of a hot rod mounted on a wall. Near the front window are a few arcade machines, including Vectorzone, which can be played between parties. In two of the corners, people can sit around a table, where a dancer can perform if she likes, Alynna explaining, “the table dancers do not have to be in (the club) group to use the tip jars above them. The stage poles still require group membership.”

Late Saturday night, Nydia had a “pre-opening” party for a few friends of her and Alynna. The club had its first. On Sunday night was the “Rock Out” party, in which the club was officially open.

Club Fur is located at the Kitsuhana sim at (136, 84, 2007).
