First Cross-Country Giant Snail Race of 2016 Takes Place
On Saturday March 19, the first Cross-Country Giant Snail Race of the year took place. Close to a couple dozen contestants took part, including a few first-time snail racers. The theme of the event was "Circus," and a circus it was, with some of the avatars dressed up as clowns (including an evil clown), and even one snail modified to look like a seal balancing a ball.
The race took place across 45 sims on the Second Life mainland, starting at Abitibi and ending at the finish line in Noyo. The race included a few snags, among them lag, notably a spike near the begining of the race that temporarily ground progress to a halt and caused some people to crash, including RacerX. And there were the ban lines around some properties that required racers and onlookers running and flying to keep up with the action alike to run around when they bumped into one.
Still, it was a chance to see some scenery, such as a Steampunk-themed airship. And sometimes the road wasn't just a road, such as this bridge spanning a river.
The race was won by Oodlemi Noodle, whom took an early lead and kept on holding up, passing the finish line 42 minutes after the start of the race. Second Was BabypeaVonPhoenix Bikergirl, whom was just a minute behind. Third was notable Relay personality Rowena
Dubrovna.
Others who finished were: 4: Cinders Vale, 5: LittleAbs Residen, 6: Tindalla Soothsayer, 7: Catten Carter, 8: Lulce Babenco, 9: QueeniePromise Resident, 10: Alden Cortes, 11: Maryam Camino, 12: Henriette Demina, 13: Caleb Kit, 14: Starr Feame, 15: Masterperry Resident, 16: Cate Foulsbane, 17: Sidonie Carlberg, 18: Fukuju Amaterasu, 19: Lobbie Riggles, 20: Cally Hane, 21: Cool Plasma
Each of those who finished got at least a trophy. Following the race came the usualy dance at the end, along with a few jokes going back and forth.

RacerX soon make a video of the race, which can be shown here.

Announcement: First Giant Snail Cross-Country Race of 2016 This Saturday
The Giant Snail Racers are about to have their first cross-country (or is it cross-sim) race of 2016. Usually the snail races are in their own sim in an obstacle course. But about once a month from March to July during the Relay season, under the name "Giant Snail Racing Team" RacerX Gullwing runs these marathons spanning dozens of sims. This race, starting at 11AM SL time on Saturday March 19, runs from Abitibi to Noyo goes across a total of 45 sims.
The race is open to all willing to pay an entry fee, which gets you a Giant Racing Snail scarf. There are two levels, the 1000 Linden scarf allowing wearers to start right up at the starting line, and the 500 Linden ones still allowing them to race, but a little further back. Those wishing to take part are asked to show up at least a half hour before the race starts to ensure there will be no problems.
To get one of the scarves needed for the race, head to Gullwing Coast Racers (165, 116, 777)

SL Video: "Giant Snail Race 369 Mar 21 Relay For Life Giant Snail Cross Country Race"
(Click here if the video fails to load)
On March 21, the first of this year's cross-country Giant Snail Races took place in Second Life's mainland. This is the video of the competition, "This is probably the best footage of one of these Giant snail races we've ever made. This is the first Giant Snail Cross country race of the Relay For Life season in second life. Though we don't attract as many Snails as we used to to these events it makes for better footage of the ones that do race . So maybe we've finally reached the optimum amount of snails. We raised 36,000 L. Big thanks to Mae Best for her generous donation that brought all the snails to the top tier starting position."
Caiten Carter was the winner, with Snurky Snoodle coming in Second.
The Giant Snail Races run every Saturday in Second Life. Usually the race is on an obstacle course in a single sim, but once a month during the Relay season, they hold a cross-country event to raise money for the Relay for Life. RacerX Gullwing is the one who organizes the races, with the help of his team.

Giant Snail Races Tenth Anniversary
On Saturday at 11:00AM SL time, the Giant Snail Races held their tenth anniversary events. Organized by RacerX Gullwing and his staff, the weekly event has been good silly fun for the past decade on the Grid. The events consisted of an awards ceremony, two snail races through the maze, decorated in a birthday theme, and then a party.
(Click here if the video fails to play)
Well it's been a long strange trip to here. This is our 10th anniversary of Giant Snail Racing. Lots of Cake Snails and lots of fun. Thanks everyone for hanging with us. Happy Turkey Day from the Giant Snail Races. Also Alazarin Mobius has agreed to let us use his music in our show so credits music by Alazarin Mobius Cosmodrome is on the album Reticulated Splines and during the race we used his song Space_Patrol is on the album Iaxartes Tholus.
The first race was won by Lana Mathilde. Oodlemi Noodle won the second. Besides the races, those present were also asked to vote on the best decorated in theme snail. Temba Resident won Best in Show.
After the races, people partied near the maze for a while (seen speeded up in the last few minutes of the above video). Then everyone still there headed over to "Club Snailo," listening and dancing to tunes by DJ Xanadu.

The "Making Strides" Cross-Country Giant Snail Race
Last week on Sept 27, RacerX Gullwing's Giant Snail Races held a special "Cross Country" race for the "Making Strides. This race was a bit different in two ways. One, there were prizes available besides the trophy one gets for finishing the marathon. Two, as this was a Making Strides event, there were special pink giant snail avatars available for racing. These made of the majority of the racers, some which took time to customize them to somewhat resemble their normal snails, the color aside. The avatars were for free, but the pink scarves needed to be in the race were 500 Lindens with the cash going to the American Cancer Society.
The race took place on the Sansara continent, starting a little after 11AM in the Ontario sim. There was a Vezpa Scooter station close by the starting line, so people could rezz one and follow the race on vehicle, which yours truly did for a while. The course went past "The Shelter" newcomer hangout, and a reproduction of the "Spruce Goose," the largest airplane that ever took flight. There was the usual mayhem as snails got stuck at times, delt with the infamous ban lines, and the occasional "walk of lag." RacerX also had to end up replacing a course marker that somehow got returned.
After about 35 minutes, the first of the snails crossed the finish line at Davenport. Gareth8 Albatros was first, followed by Oodlemi Noodle, with Alden Cortes third. They, and possibly other winners, got 4,500 Lindens in gift certificates. Next week, the races resume their normal, and wacky, themed events at the obstacle course on Devon Dream (165, 110, 777)Bixyl Shuftan

SL Video: "The Greatest Relay for Life Cross Country Giant Snail Race Ever"
This event, the last of the Giant Cross-Country Snail Races, took place eight days ago on July 12. It was held on Second Life's mainland on the continent sometimes known as Heterocera. It was truly a long one, going across forty sims from the traffic circle next to the "Motel 7" at Fillip to next to the Hobo Railroad Infohub in Calleta.
This time instead of just watching, I decided to take part in the race, getting one of the 500L scarves. Normally me and the others with it would have started back a good distance from the ones whom put down 2500. This time however there were some technical difficulties, so we got to start closer, though still behind.
I wondered if lag would end up helping me out to a middle position. Instead it worked against me, and I crashed a number of times, ending up further and further behind the pack. At least there was plenty of scenery, and not as much trouble from ban lines as I worried about.
Gareth8 Albatros was the winner, followed closely behind by Snurky Snoodle, with Shady Fox third. Yours truly came in dead last. You can see me coming in the finish line in the video's closing credits. Still, for refusing to quit and making it to the finish line, Giant Snail Race organizer RacerX Gullwing handed me one of the trophies.

The Oldbie Project – RacerX Gullwing
If you've been around Second Life for a while, especially if you're on the lookout for fun events to go to, chances are you've heard of the Giant Snail Races. This wacky "only in Second Life" event is organized by RacerX Gullwing. Shortly after his tenth rezzday, DrFran had a chance to interview him. Besides describing his first days around SL, Racer proceeded to show Fran around his sims. The experience was interesting, to say the least.
Read DrFran's article in People.

Giant Snail Race at Raglan Shire
The tiny community of Raglan Shire has a reputation for being more than a little chaotic due to it's fun-loving residents. But last weekend the chaos was more than doubled with the addition of the Giant Snails. Raglan was the location of May's cross-country Giant Snail Races, an event for the Relay for Life. So what happened when you mix tinies and Giant snails? Lots of chaotic fun.See more in Events.

Giant Snail Race in Winterfell
Last weekend on Saturday April 19, the Giant Snails held a cross-country sim race in the Winterfell area. This Fantasy-themed region bordering the larger steampunk community of Caledon had entered and won an auction by the Giant Snail Team in the Relay for Life to be the location for April's cross-sim race. The race was watched by a number of residents, including some from and with connections to Steelhead. KlausWulfenback Outlander, aka Baron Wulfenback, shared a couple pictures with the group. Here, Tindalla Soothsayer takes the lead.
There were a few complications. While they might not have had to contend with the infamous ban lines encountered in mainland cross-country races, the tall trees and less than familiar terrain made for more than a few snails getting lost, especially in the first races. Plus, it was easy to fall off bridges, as this picture from the Baron shows, "I believe Frau Fall is still on the safe side of the bridge, but not for long."
Several races would be held that afternoon, a video was made of the first 38 minutes of the action though.
(Click here if the video fails to load)
During the races, it was announced that the Giant Snails as a Relay team had reached the 100,000 Linden mark in funds raised this season, and were now a silver-ranked team.
The Giant Snail Races are run by RacerX Gullwing.

First Cross-Sim Giant Snail Race of 2014
By Bixyl Shuftan
On Saturday at 11:30 AM SL time, the first Cross-Country Giant Snail Race of the year took place in Second Life. Organized by RacerX Gullwing and his team, the Giant Snail Races usually take place on a track in the Devon Dream sim every week. During the Relay For Life fundraising season, once a month there is a special cross-sim or cross-country race to help raise funds for the cancer charity through the Giant Snail Races team. Typically such events can span a few dozen sims, and always take place on the Second Life Mainland over highways. This race took place across 37 sims on the continent commonly called Sansara.
For a 2500 Linden entry fee, racers could start at the starting line at the Abitibi sim. There was a cheaper 500 L fee, but those taking the discount had to start a sim back. The course went through both country and urban areas, with green arrows helping to mark the way for the giant snails as they wobbled their way down the track, leaving behind trails of "slime bubbles." Snail avatars are customizable, and some stood out such as Snurky Snoodle's 3D glasses and Tindalla Soothsayer's pink shell and dress. Some noteable places were passed such as the newcomer hangout "The Shelter."
After a little more than a half hour, the finish line in the Noyo sim was first crossed by Gareth8 Albatros. Snurky Snoodle took second place, and Oodlemi Noodle third. Others came in as follows:
Tindallia Soothsayer 4
KJ Kiranov 5
Hermione Highwater 6
Cinders Vale 7
Lelani Carver 8
Cate Foulsbane 9
Alden Cortes 10
Rendal Constantineau 11
Safra Nitely 12
RacerX would later announce, "We raised 47,950 L with the race today and Wildstar Beaumont took some great pictures of the race with shadows on. They are gorgeous." Wildstars pictures can be found on his Flickr here: (link) There was also a youtube made of the race, with yours truly able to be seen at the finish line (55 minutes long).
