BURN2 2019: Metamorphoses
Opening 5:00pm SLT, Friday, 11 October 2019
Ending Midnight SLT, Sunday, 20 October 2019
SLURL: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Burning%20Man-%20Deep%20Hole/174/32/25
As is tradition every year, artists and creatives are invited to get their plots and create homes and art installations in this virtual temporary city on six sims. This year’s theme, Metamorphoses, presents interesting interpretation opportunities within the framework of the Ten Principles of Burning Man and build guidelines.
It’s not too late to get your own plot!
The plot sale continues! But don’t wait too long - the build period ends on the 9th of October. If you are an artist or builder (or a dusty camper!) then come, get a plot and create your own story of transformations, changes...metamorphoses - or a comfy little camp to relax and enjoy the dust, tunes and art everywhere. Where to get your own plot? The location is below, and don’t forget to tap the sign for the URL to the Metamorphoses 2019 Plot Owner Questionnaire, which helps us find the best possible placement for your camp: Burn2 Metamorphoses Plot Kiosks
Life has begun to stir on the virtual playa, with trucks hauling in the prims needed for infrastructure and various builds. Interesting creations are sprouting up out of the dust. We can’t wait until the event opens on the 11th of October, when music, dancing and fire can begin, and a community comes together once again.
Or Apply for the Plottery
If you find you are unable to afford a plot, but you want a place to call your home on the playa, you can sign up for the Burn2 Plot Lottery. In keeping with our gifting tradition, we have a limited number of 512 square meter plots with a maximum LI of 156.
You Could Create a Small Art Display
The community is invited to contribute small art to be displayed in across the six sims. Just fill out the Metamorphoses Small Art Plot Application to add your bit of creativity to the event!
No Such Thing as Bystanders at Metamorphoses
The moment you step onto the dusty playa, you are not a mere spectator, you’re part of the spectacle: Welcome Home!
SHARE the News and Plan to Come!
We look forward to welcoming Home Burners and community. Experience Burn2 once again, walk through the gate, and if you are a virgin Burner, ring the bell! Follow the Lamplighters on their twice-daily processions; visit the Rangers, view the Man and meditate in the Temple. Wander, explore, climb, interact. Visit three official stages and many performance camps with music to soothe, inspire, excite and incite to dance. You will be surrounded by art, music, fire and welcoming Burners! See the (continuously updated) BURN2 Calendar at https://www.burn2.org/event-calendar/ for the week’s event schedule.

Press Release: Burn 2 Oct 19-28
As we do every year, we invited artists and creatives to get their plots to create homes and art installations in this virtual temporary city on five sims, with a challenge to build to a science fiction flavoured theme, “I, Robot,” within the framework of the Ten Principles of Burning Man and a set of build guidelines. The response from the community has been marvelously varied. Some are built around the Three Laws of Robotics as set out by Isaac Asimov. Others explore ideas about the relationship between humans and AI, or express very real fears and doubts about the future. There are still others that are simply funny and fun to explore. And not the least among these are the simple camps for those who want to merely sit a spell, relax and soak in the tunes in the air.
This year, we invite you to experience art that examines how it feels to live in a world filled with robots. When you step foot onto the dusty playa, you are no longer a mere bystander but a part of the spectacle that is I, Robot.
SHARE the News and Plan to Come!
We look forward to welcoming Home Burners and community. Experience Burn2 once again, walk through the gate, and if you are a virgin Burner, ring the bell! Follow the Lamplighters on their twice-daily processions; visit the Rangers station, view the Man and pause to reflect in the Temple. Wander, explore, climb, interact. Visit the three stages with music to soothe, inspire, excite and incite to dance. You will be surrounded with art and music, and generous Burners inviting you to participate.

Burn2: Getting The Burning Man Alight
The Burn2 art and music festival reached it's high point over the weekend with the Temple Burn, and the signature event, the burning of "The Man." Klaus Bereznyak was there, and watched the rangers, lamplighters set things up for the burn as the onlookers gathered.

"Welcome Home Rangers" Ceremony at Burn2
With everything that was happening on Saturday, I only had a short time to visit Burn2. And most of what I saw, Klaus Bereznyak described in his story. I did notice a few out of the ordinary avatars, such as a nine-tailed kitsune. Hopefully that was an omen of good luck. But I also stumbled across a ceremony conducted amongst the Rangers of Burn2.
"Welcome Rangers," Leondra Larsson told the others, "I first
want to say how much I enjoyed training and learning with each of you. I
first want to say how much I enjoyed training and learning with each of
you. You are special. You have answered the call. You have trained and
you are ready. This past year at Burning Man marked the 25th anniversary
of the Rebar Ceremony. In mirroring that ritual, I am honoring the
Black Rock Rangers and the BURN2 Rangers".
"I
am going to draw a line on the Playa," Leondra told them. "On the other
side of this line, everything will be different. I am going to do that
now. ... See it?" People hesitated to answer at first, then were saying
they could. Leondra continued, "All step up to that line. Magic of SL,
it can be bigger (smile). What you serve is the community. Please,
Rangers of the class of 2017 cross this line." And they did, "Rangers
stepping up."
Leondra went on, "Now brother and
sister Rangers of former years, cross this line with me, and join our
new Rangers. ... What we make out of this is up to us. May we serve with
kindness, empathy, and helpfulness. May we be the embodiment of the 10
Principles and be viewed as helpers of the community." "And do a whole
lot of nothing this week," Miss Suzanne Super Sweet (SuperSuz Resident)
quipped.
After that and a few more lines, and a picture taken, the rangers split up to go to different places around the Burn2 grounds.

Rebar Ceremony on The Playa
The Rangers for Burn2, http://www.burn2.org/ , have finished our training. On Saturday the 25th, the Rebar Ceremony was held. The graduates gathered at the Ranger Headquarters on the Playa in anticipation of crossing the line. The address explained the symbolism of the ceremony. In RL a long time ago, the first Black Rock Rangers took a step across a line in the desert. Ronan Carver said, “Danger Ranger took a stick, drew a line across the earth, and said ‘On the other side of this line, there exists a world where everything is different.’ Then everybody held hands and stepped across that line. The first settlers of Black Rock City had come to burn a wooden man. In doing so, they created a community.”
Rebar is the common anchor for tents and so the Rangers starting stepping over a length of rebar in 1996. Now the numbers of graduating Rangers are so large that the rebar is used to draw the line and the rebar is laid down at the end of the line at the Burning Man . “The important thing is what the rebar symbolizes. ..an anchor..”, said M2Danger Ranger. So now we are ready and willing to help the community on the Playa! We have learned the skills to work with the community. Our community is busy building wonderful exhibits for the Burn2 week.(October 16 is the start.) It is exciting to watch it all grow from the soil upward. The Rangers are looking forward to it all!! Hope to see you there.
