Burn2 Begins

Burn2 started yesterday afternoon, Friday October 09. If it seems a bit soon, it's because the Burning Man festival which normally takes place in Black Rock in the late summer was canceled this year and held in virtual reality, including here in Second Life. But Burn2 goes on as usual, with the same theme: "The Multiverse."

The Burn2 grounds have several sims with some colorful and trippy exhibits.

And there's DJs playing some music at events, some with lots of special effects.

The festival goes on to Sunday October 18, the day before being the main event, the Burning of The Man. So if you like art, music, and especially both, head on over.

Press Release: Burn2 Winter Burn 2020

Winter Burn 2020: Magic!

Opening 5:00pm SLT, Friday 31 January 2020  BURN2, Deep Hole

Hear ye, hear ye! We welcome our magical friends,  for every being who entereth herein shall be seen as magic!  There are no bystanders, no mere observers!  Ye shall be part of the spectacle on the playa.
About Magic! Normally, Deep Hole consists of a lonely, desolate little desert town, an echo of Gerlach, Nevada, with a road that leads to the playa. This playa is a replication of a long ago dried up lake bed, with mountains surrounding. The environment is hostile, barren and dry, supporting little animal or plant life. However...

At times, there is a kind of desert magic that comes over the playa. A sudden unexpected rainstorm causes a flash flood, followed by a sudden carpeting of brilliantly coloured blooms. Almost as quickly, insects and birds, other desert wildlife arrive to take advantage of the available water before it all disappears.

Likewise, this virtual playa has its own magic and we've invited the hidden peoples of SL, from magical communities of all corners of the grid. The air has changed, and strangely fanciful flora - and some fauna - have taken hold on the dust. You'll see coloured lights glowing in the mist, beckoning to you to come closer and see the wondrous creations of magic folk. You are meant to explore, learn about, interact, and even play on these creations you’ll discover.

Some creative Burner souls set up a welcome area, a transition from the dusty lonely little town into a richly coloured and ethereal world, a new dimension of the playa, ready to welcome and embrace those who came to build, share music, and explore this world of wonder, follow pathways and pause to sit and ponder in lighted waystops. The art and music and celebration of wondrous realms will fill this place for a weekend, only to disappear into the mists soon after, then evaporate, chased away by barren emptiness of the desert once again.

So, while it exists - in the days of 31 January through 2 February - come and experience the shared magic of this Winter Burn!

This event is a unique collaboration, with Burn2 and members of magical communities from across the grid. We are deeply honoured and excited to say that Elven Forest, Faery Crossing, the Merfolk of Uhre, Safe Waters Foundation and Sylvhara are among the communities represented at the event as artists and

performers, and what they bring only adds to the delightful ambiance you will see, hear and feel around the playa. The Lamplighters will help to open the event with a walk-on from the Welcome Area to the main stage. Artists and builders have been hard at work creating their concepts of the theme.  A full schedule of performers - live singers, group acts and DJs will be playing, from opening on Friday all the way through to after the final Burn on Sunday evening. We always appreciate performers who may not have signed up but are interested in being “on standby.” Oh, yes… There will be a Burn!  Mark Your Calendar and SHARE the News! We look forward to welcoming Home Burners and community, to explore the builds and enjoy the music that will fill the air over the playa.

You can find the full performance schedule on the BURN2 Calendar, with more information about the event here: https://www.burn2.org/magic-2020/.  <

Press Release: Burn2 Conception - Communal Earth

Conception 2019: Communal Earth
Opening 5:00pm SLT, Friday 19 July 2019
BURN2, Deep Hole

Communal Earth: Theme for Burn2’s Conception Event

At Conception we look back to the roots of our regional in SL, reaching back to Burning Man. How the years have flown by!

Our past event themes often relate to the Earth – Fertility, Balance. Our virtual Regional is comprised of Burners from across the world and all of us are concerned about the damage to the planet, and the realisation that the cause of it is us. Recovery from the damage must also begin with us. And so the community’s choice of theme for this next event on Deep Hole will be Communal Earth.

What is this theme about? It’s a concept around the communal effort needed to remember the origin of Earth and for everyone on the planet to preserve and heal it. We remember our roots, the first stirrings of life, and how we got from there to here, and recognise the impact our existence has had on our mother Earth. There is no magic bullet, no single solution to solve all the Earth’s problems. Therefore, it is on all of us, each in our different ways that we can do, to find and apply healing. In the process, we will see that we are all in this together.

Lamplighters will help to open the event with a walk-on to lead everyone from the Welcome Area to the main stage. All are invited to join us as we walk!

We’ve got Greeters getting their gift packs ready, Fashionistas making their plans, and a variety of interesting activities in various stages of building under way.

Artists and performers are invited to sign up for FREE plots and time slots! Signups are now open. All signups will be first come, first served. Read the information on the pages before you proceed to sign up.

Mark Your Calendar and SHARE the News!

We look forward to welcoming Home Burners and community, to explore the builds and enjoy the music that will fill the air over the playa the weekend of July 19-21. The BURN2 Calendar at http://www.burn2.org/calendar will fill up quickly as performers sign up and we get closer to the event opening on the 19th of July.

We will of course feature a burn. You will see an effigy called “Corporate Conglomerate for Consumerism and Conspicuous Consumption,” nicknamed CC4CCC. The giant CC4CCC Mascot is slated to burn!

BURN2 is the virtual extension of the Burning Man festival and community into the world of Second Life. It spreads Burning Culture and the Burning Man Ten Principles all year round.  We are one official regional of Burning Man among more than 100 first world Regional groups.

Press Release: Winter Burn 2019 - Seasonal Perceptions

Opening 6:00pm SLT, Friday 25 January 2019
BURN2, Deep Hole

Seasonal Perceptions: Theme for Burn2’s Winter Burn Event
Perception -- the ability to see, hear, or become aware of something through the senses.

This is particularly important as we move through the seasons... especially the holidays.  However, our perceptions are affected by our environment... the things and people around us.  Even the weather!  At this time of year, one person might be shoveling the snow off his driveway while another might spend the day surfing the waves off the coast of Australia!

But it is also influenced by our imaginations.  Michael Whelan, a world-renowned artist, once did a painting of his young daughter who loved playing in the sandbox.  What he did differently is depict his daughter wearing a spacesuit and playing in a lunar sandbox!

Our perceptions ares a driving force in how we interact with the world around us.  But imagination is also a strong influencer.  Given all that, how would you perceive the seasons?  Would you reflect the environment around you... or imagine something completely off the wall and different?  Show us your "Seasonal Perceptions!"

Lamplighters will help to open the event with a walk-on from the Welcome Area to the main stage.
Artists and builders are invited to sign up for a plot (limited number, first come first served). We also have a collaborative build area set aside for Burners who would like to join a team with other creatives to build to theme. Signup is available at https://burn2.org/seasonalperceptions-buildsignup. On this form, one can indicate interest in the collaborative team or a single plot. There is also an opt-in available to be part of the Ten Principles Hunt if signing up for a single plot.

As for performers - live singers, group acts and DJs - watch for the self-signup to play at Burn2 in the next few days. If you know you are interested, you can contact Cuga Rajal inworld, until the signup sheet is available.

The Weather Machine will have its place at the center of the playa, an interactive build gleefully doomed to burn!

Press Release: Burn 2 Oct 19-28

As we do every year, we invited artists and creatives to get their plots to create homes and art installations in this virtual temporary city on five sims, with a challenge to build to a science fiction flavoured theme, “I, Robot,” within the framework of the Ten Principles of Burning Man and a set of build guidelines.

The response from the community has been marvelously varied. Some are built around the Three Laws of Robotics as set out by Isaac Asimov. Others explore ideas about the relationship between humans and AI, or express very real fears and doubts about the future. There are still others that are simply funny and fun to explore. And not the least among these are the simple camps for those who want to merely sit a spell, relax  and soak in the tunes in the air.

This year, we invite you to experience art that examines how it feels to live in a world filled with robots. When you step foot onto the dusty playa, you are no longer a mere bystander but a part of the spectacle that is I, Robot.

SHARE the News and Plan to Come!

We look forward to welcoming Home Burners and community. Experience Burn2 once again, walk through the gate, and if you are a virgin Burner, ring the bell! Follow the Lamplighters on their twice-daily processions; visit the Rangers station, view the Man and pause to reflect in the Temple. Wander, explore, climb, interact. Visit the three stages with music to soothe, inspire, excite and incite to dance. You will be surrounded with art and music, and generous Burners inviting you to participate.

Press Release: "Burnal Equinox 2018: H2O = Water but H2+O -> Fire"

Creative Burners near and far, we call you to sign up and participate in the next event to take place on the virtual playa on Deep Hole: Burnal Equinox.

"H2O = Water but H2+O = Fire"

What does this mean? It is in two parts. The first we all know, that H2O represents WATER. But...the second part is not a chemical formula; rather it is an attempt to describe the process of combustion that results in FIRE. Both utilise hydrogen and oxygen, but manifest in different ways.

This excerpt from The Urantia Revelation may inspire ideas for creativity in building, art, and music for this event:

"Mathematics, material science, is indispensable to the intelligent discussion of the material aspects of the universe, but such knowledge is not necessarily a part of the higher realization of truth or of the personal appreciation of spiritual realities. Not only in the realms of life but even in the world of physical energy, the sum of two or more things is very often something more than, or something different from, the predictable additive consequences of such unions. The entire science of mathematics, the whole domain of philosophy, the highest physics or chemistry, could not predict or know that the union of two gaseous hydrogen atoms with one gaseous oxygen atom would result in a new and qualitatively superadditive substance—liquid water. The understanding knowledge of this one physiochemical phenomenon should have prevented the development of materialistic philosophy and mechanistic cosmology.

"Technical analysis does not reveal what a person or a thing can do. For example: Water is used effectively to extinguish fire. That water will put out fire is a fact of everyday experience, but no analysis of water could ever be made to disclose such a property. Analysis determines that water is composed of hydrogen and oxygen; a further study of these elements discloses that oxygen is the real supporter of combustion and that hydrogen will itself freely burn."

The event will officially open with a walk-on by the Lamplighters at 10:00am SLT on March 24th, and Burners are welcome join us in the fun. A fashion show will be featured at the stage during the event. A schedule of performances will be available closer to opening.

In the meantime, we come together as a community to prepare for this event. You are invited to PARTICIPATE, because no Burner is a mere bystander on the pixel dust of BURN2's Deep Hole playa that is our virtual Home. There are several ways in which you can do this.

Build on a Plot!
Plots are free, but limited in number. Begin planning your creative build - plots on the playa will open for building starting the 27th of February. Placement will contact you starting then for you to choose your plot.

Sign up early! First come, first served get the plots!

Perform on the Stage!
The stage, a quarter circle, will be specially built for this event, where many can gather to listen, to dance and to enjoy this opportunity to celebrate the Equinox that brings the change of seasons and sunlight.

Sign up on this form and a member of the Performance Team will contact you to schedule your performance.

Become a Fashionista!
Sign up to be a model in the fashion show at Burnal Equinox!

Press Release: Skin Burn 2016 Today

All too soon, the annual OctoBurn event themed “Da Vinci’s Workshop” has come to a close, but the builds stay up until Friday night. The playa will then be cleared for the decompression event we call SKIN BURN.

The SKIN BURN is an encore Burning of the Man which will take place twice on Saturday, the 29th of October, at 12 Noon and 6:00 PM SLT (12.00 and 18.00 SLT). Check-in closes 10 minutes before the Burns begin. Spectators are asked to detach scripts, scripted items, HUDs and attachments (which include items like hair, shoulder pet, mesh clothing and other items) from their avatars. We also assist in reducing Avatar Complexity to the lowest possible level.

Please Read the Following Information...
Why do we do this? By reducing the scripts and attached items we wear on our avatars and viewer screens, and reducing our avatar complexity, we help to make lag on the sims as low as possible, and the Burn will run better for everyone who comes to watch it.

It is important to know that, while we may encourage everyone to try to wear a classic avatar with just skin and system clothing, if an avatar is normally Tiny, petite, or a wearer of a mesh body, we do not require that he/she remove that form; we will assist the avatar to achieve the lowest possible avatar complexity and “script weight” for their avatar type by asking to remove all parts that are not essential for their avatar.

EXAMPLES
A petite avatar uses certain scripts to maintain the petite form, but the hair can be removed.
A Tiny fox with a scripted tail - perhaps the tail (if modifiable) can be replaced with one that is not scripted.
A wearer of a female mesh body may be asked to remove mesh clothing, but appliers can be worn.

The playa will be closed during the Burns; spectators will need to go through a check-in area off playa to de-script and de-lag, then get a special group tag to access the playa for the event.

BURN2 is the virtual extension of the Burning Man festival and community into the world of Second Life. It spreads Burning Culture and the Burning Man Ten Principles all year round.  We are one Burning Man regional, out of more than 100 worldwide Regional groups.

We encourage you to use the following labels and hashtags when you write about the event: Burn2, #burn2 . We will promote those tags to make it easier for people to find your content.

2015 Skin Burn This Saturday

This Saturday November 7, the "Skin Burn" will be taking place. "The BURN2 Skin Burn is a decompression event that features a "encore" Man Burn, usually 1-2 weeks after the closing of the annual BURN2 event held in late October. We Burn the Man again, with everyone in their best low-lag form. We are challenged to get wildly creative with it, too! We will do the Skin Burn twice on Saturday the 7th of November, at 10:00am SLT and at 6:00pm SLT. Check-in will open at 8:30am SLT for the 10am Burn, and again at 4:30pm SLT for the 6pm Burn. "

The exact location will be given out in the Burningman 2.0 group. Though it's a safe bet it will be taking place somewhere in the six sims of this year's Burn2 festival. While prim human avatars are preferred, it seems they're not the only ones allowed, "While we urge you to use a classic avatar to help your fellow Burners have a great Burn experience, we do have a very few exceptions for petite mesh avatars, Dinkie and Tiny avatars, and some furry avatars."

Press Day at Burn2 "Carnival of Mirrors"

Tomorrow is the official start of Burn2, the largest yearly art and music festival in Second Life. Today was Press Day there, and the media got an early peek at the show. Among them was Second Life Newser's Gemma Cleanslate.  She took a look around the six sims of this year's Burn, the theme being "Carnival of Mirrors." So what did she find?

Burn2, "Carnival of Mirrors" Opens Saturday

One of the biggest yearly events in Second Life, the Burn2 festival, is about to begin. After weeks of preparation, the final touches to the exhibits and the final adjustments to the schedules are being done as the event is set to begin this weekend on Saturday October 17 at 12 Noon SL time. This year's theme is "Carnival of Mirrors."

Builders are feverishly finishing their fantastical building, Greeters honing their gorgeous greeting skills, Rangers shaking the dust out of their hats and boots, and Lamplighters donning their robes, all in preparation for the Big Burn event we lovingly nickname, "Octoburn."

BURN2 2015: Carnival of Mirrors will open on Saturday the 17th of October at noon SLT with a procession by the Lamplighters, beginning at their Village which is not far from the Welcome Gate where you arrive. You are all invited to explore, experience and express the joy of the Burn and revel in the music, art and colourful constructions born out of the imaginations of creative Burners. And, of course there will be fire!

The event opens with a Lamplighters procession at 12:00pm SLT on the 17th, with another at 7:00pm SLT. Additional processions will take place at noon and 7pm SLT daily through the 23rd. On the 24th there will be no processions, but the Man Burns will be at 6am, 12pm and 6pm SLT on the 24th. On the last day the Lamplighters will perform their last processions at 5am, 11am and 5pm SLT - one hour before each Temple Burn. Also on Temple Burn day, Lamplighter processions will pause along their route at Center Camp for a short Fire Dance performance before continuing the procession toward the Temple.

The event will be taking place on six sims this year: Burning Man Deep Hole,  Burning Man Jade, Burning Man Looking Glass, Burning Man Black Rock, Burning Man Limbo, and Burning Man Frog Pond.

More information about the event can be found on the Burn2 website at www.burn2.org.

2) Custom Shaped Plot.We can parcel your plot with boundaries to your (within reason)
specifications. The plot size will not change in terms of square meters, but the plot shape can vary from the usual square or rectangular configuration.

3) Modestly Increased Height Limits. If you get a 512sqm, 1024sqm or 2048sqm plot before the 8th of September, your height limit will be a bit higher than if you get it after the 8th.

You will be required to attend at least ONE short and simple information session to ensure full understanding of the builder guidelines, play aesthetics, and Ten Principles of Burning Man, all of which will be in force for the October event. Once attended you will receive your builder tags and be able to build on your plot once it is placed.

So, what's holding you back? The plots even cost LESS than they have in the past two years! This is a unique opportunity to do something a bit different this year while still keeping within the traditional playa aesthetics.

After you reserve your plot, wander over to the Center Camp tent and watch the live stream of Burning Man we've got going on the screen there. That event officially begins on the 30th of August, but you can see the flow of traffic through Gerlach in these pre-event days.

Press Release: Burn2 2015 - Carnival of Mirrors

This year's theme is about mirrors and masks, mazes, and merger. It will be a kind of magic show that takes the form of an old-fashioned carnival. This Carnival of Mirrors asks three essential questions: within our media-saturated world, where products and people, consumption and communion morph into an endlessly diverting spectacle, who is the trickster, who is being tricked, and how might we discover who we really are?

Classic carnivals, as theaters of illusion, upheld a very strict dividing line that separated carnies, cast as showmen, from members of a naive public who were labels chumps and suckers, marks and rubes. Our carnival, however, will perform an even more subversive trick - its motto is Include the Rube. The wall dividing the observer from the observed will disappear, as by an act of magic; through the alchemy of interaction, everyone at once can be the carny and the fool.

With great glee and inspired excitement, we announce the upcoming BRN2: Carnival of Mirrors. The event will take place October 17-25, 2015, culminating in the Burning of the Man of the 24th, and the temple Burn on the 25th. Going into this season of preparation, the annual plot sale opens, along with the Plot Lottery! And prices for the plot sale are LOWER!

Get all the information you need about the Plot Lottery and Jurried Art Camp applications by going to http://www.burn2.org and finding the link to the desired application form in the menu at left under "Carnival of Mirrors." L$5000 = 1024sqm, 234 LI
