Jenni Greenfield Stepping Down From Cutlass, Taking Break From SL

 

Jenni Greenfield has been a familiar sight at Club Cutlass, the main club of the Sunweaver community for many years. But she recently announced she will be taking a break, possibly a permanent one.

 

Had to make a hard decision, but decided to hang it up with SL. The reasons for this is my health is declining, and I have actually become bored with the internet. As you may know, I was recently in the hospital, and they misplaced the meds I took with me. they said they would set me up with new prescriptions, but they seem to be having a problem getting them through. Without them, I have medical issues and a near total lack of energy. Thank you all for putting up with me all these years. 

 

Talking with her, Jenni wasn't sure if this was a hiatus in which she would be back, eventually, but a lasting one, bringing up her lack of energy.

 

Hopefully her health problems will resolve soon and she'll soon be back.

For those who don't know, that's a "Marvin the Martian" avatar Shockwave Yareach is wearing, a character from "Looney Toons" whom Bugs Bunny occasionally comes across trying to blow up the Earth for some ridiculously trivial reason. But it seems Jenni Greenfield is foiling Marvin by more painful means.

Club Cutlass Gets a Touch-Up

 For the first time since it's christening in March 2015, the current Club Cutlass, also known as Cutlass VI, has gotten some changes. Last week, Cynthia Farshore and Shockwave Yarreach made some adjustments on the ship.

While the basic design is still the same, the ship has been widened some, and the hull smoothed a bit. The widening is most noticeable on the dance deck, which now has some side areas with a few couches for people who would rather sit than dance. The side passageways to and back from the quarters have also been widened, to the relief of dragon DJ Geerkil whom occasionally performs at Cutlass, and more recently the Happy Vixen. The deck's appearance is also different, resembling varnished wood. One more difference was the altitude of the ship, raised to about 750 meters over the ground.

Underneath the ship, one can find the boilers and driveshafts. There's also a mad doctor's lab, a brig (rumor has it used when Rita Mariner thinks Gil has been naughty), and a bomb rack with bay doors.

Two particular changes were actually made weeks ago, the addition of a couple mascots. Next to the DJ booth is a parrot that moves around a little, and once in a while flies around. Between the booth and the left dancepole is a small hollow log where a weasel inside occasionally pokes his head out from one of the holes. The weasel has been named "Captain Cutlass." So far no name yet for the parrot.

Saturday October 22 was the first party after the last of the changes made.  Not everyone was completely happy with the changes. One local expressed disappointment that she could no longer see the club from her window. But most were happy with them, especially Rita Mariner the Sunweaver chieftess.

One change isn't about the ship, but the contest rules. The rule about contest winners having to sit the next one out has been temporarily lifted, possibly because of a number of ties in recent events.

The new landmark is now at Sunweaver Bay (114/117/757). Regular events are on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 6-8PM, though some people drop in early and hand around after the contests. People also gather occasionally between events. Jenni Greenfield is in charge of club events.

New Places at the Sunweaver Estates

In a community, private homes can have new builds frequently. But last month, there was quite a large structure that was up within sight of Club Cutlass, the Sunweaver community's popular hangout. A tall crystalline tower went up near the shore ot Sunweaver Bay, standing close to 180 meters tall. The build belongs to Jenni Greenfield, the manager of Cutlass.

Resembling something out of a fantasy story, the tower can either be climbed via it's stairway, or residents can fly up into it. When the tower first went up, most chose the flying option as they went to check it out. The place could easily be used as a Fantasy roleplay setting, perhaps a spot for a couple to go on a date, or maybe just simply to get a look over the sims of the community from it's high vantage point.

Jenni's Tower as I've heard it called isn't the only new place on the Sunweaver Estates intended for it's residents and visitors. In the northeast corner of Pacific Waters, near Farshore Field, is this fairy hill and waterfall, with a "goblin cave" and other caverns inside.

It was still under construction when I looked at it, though Cynthia was working at getting it ready in time for the air show today. In one of the lower levels is a small game room on various spots there are poseballs for yoga, or for couples relaxing, and even a jacuzzi. There's also a spot meant as a small dance floor for possible events, or perhaps for a couple dancing to the sunset.

Also in the sim is a tunnel for going under the mountain and surface of the water for a distance, and there are plans for docks for a possible boat race.

So by all means after having some fun at today's air show, take a little time to drop over and look over these two new attractions in the Sunweaver Estates.

Club Cutlass: The Pirate Club of the Sunweaver Community

Clubs can be important to a community. They're where the residents meet up for fun, and are often the first place visitors to the area see of both the region and it's people. For the Sunweaver Estates, the home of the Second Life Newser office, they have several clubs and hangouts. Their main and oldest club is Club Cutlass, located in the sky over Sunweaver Space. Although the club has been written about a number of times by Sunweaver residents, this time Wesley Regenbogen wrote about the location. So what did he have to say?

This Week at the Sunweaver and Angels Clubs

DJ Cynthia Farshore at Club Zero Gavity's Military Night. Earlier in the week, the club had a Police and Firefighter's theme in honor of the first responders on Sept 11th, and then it was the turn for those in the armed forces. Cynthia played a number of military-themed songs, starting with one composed at the time of the American Revolution and a few from the Civil War such as "Goober Peas." There were a few from the Second World War, such as "Der Fuhrer's Face." And later in the party were ones from the "War of Terror," such as "Al Qaeda," a parody sung to the tune of "Elvira," and "Courtesy of the Red White and Blue."

Oh, justice will be served and the battle will rage:
This big dog will fight when you rattle his cage.
An' you'll be sorry that you messed with the U.S. of A.
'Cos we'll put a boot in your a**,  it's the American way.

Club Zero Gravity has events on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 to 8 PM at the Purrfection Estates, (232, 35, 3340)

After some months in hiatus, Club Little Dove was back in business. The Zeppelin club flies high over Sunweaver Bay, offering a few events a week in the evening, usually at 8PM, and some games between events. Here, DJ Yulia (center) performs with a few of the crowd around her.

Sunweaver Bay (130/137/77)

In contrast to Club Zero Gravity, Club Cutlass' events this week were more lighthearted. Here's club owner Jenni Greenfield as a "Pink Beret" bunny at the "Pretty in Pink" party, which naturally had mostly females dressing in theme. DJ Shockwave was performing that night. Because a few males dressed in theme, we couldn't show a pic of the crowd without embarrassing them.

Club Cutlass is over a hundred meters high in the Sunweaver Space sim at (176, 62, 125).

"Walpurgisnacht" and "Halloween in May"

Last weekend, two communities engaged in some spook-tacular events. On Friday May 3rd, the Steelheaders held a "Walpurgisnacht" dance. So what is Walpurgisnacht? It's a Spring festival celebrated in parts of Europe, named after an English missionary. Set on April 30th or May1st, it's exactly six months from Halloween. In Germany, witches and sorcerers were believed to meet up on that night, so it has taken on something of a spooky theme.

Steelhead has a number of German-born residents, such as a number of the mad scientists, the Jagers, and of course Baron Wulfenbach. So came this notice:

The Consulate is going to host the Friday Night Dance for Walpurgisnacht that celebrates the "coming of spring and the return of the tourists which is why we pretend to be demons to protect ourselves.'

Starting at 7:00 PM, two hours of tunes from Da Fuzz, with Zanya taking over at 9:00 PM

Dropping in, there was quite a number dropping about. Unfortunetly, most everyone remained grey to me for quite some time. Fortunately Garnet Psaltery was willing to share her pictures with me (above).

Fuzzball Ortega was there in his werewolf form, Lunar was there, his outfit leaving him a little bare-chested. The Baron was there as well. Many others took on monster looks, including a "demon skunk" who dropped in after I did. Streams of lava flowed on the ground, though everyone stepped around them or there was some magic protecting those around. Firey flames burst forth from burning caldrons. But in the middle of it all there was a tree that somehow remained fresh and green, where some of the dance balls were.

There was the usual amount of Steelhead wisecracks, including a number of "monstrous puns."

The following night in the Sunweaver Estates, at Club Cutlass the spooky fun continued with Jenni Greenfield holding a "Halloween in May" party. There was nothing really about European festivals. It was six months away from Halloween, and a good excuse to bring out the ghosts and goblins. Jenni herself DJed for the event.

The place was covered with a thick fog, leading to jokes that if someone was gray from lag others were unlikely to notice. There were a number of witches there, including a chakat whom was dancing unusually smooth for a taur avatar. A mermaid swung on one of the dance poles. And a vampire bat hovered around for a while until coming down to dance with one dark lioness.

No one was hexed, haunted, bit on the neck, or otherwise inconvenienced that night.

Club Cutlass

In the Sunweaver region, one club has been the community's favorite: Club Cutlass. After about six years, it continues to draw in crowds with some interesting personalities. Grease Coakes recently met up with owner Jenni Greenfield to discuss the club, and what makes it unique.

Sunweaver Estate's Cutlass Club Grand Reopening

On Sunday, February 5th, Sunweaver Estates chief Rita Mariner posted the following message for those in the group:


Sunnies: The Old Club Cutlass in now gone, the new one has been pretty much built and ready for inspection. Record the LM for the new Cutlass and come inspect it. Indio has done and incredible job!


When Rita transferred ownership of Sunweaver Air, now called the HV Community sim, one of the questions that came up was what would happen to it's popular Cutlass Club. Club owner Jenni Greenfield was inclined to keep it over Rita's land, and so it was decided to move it to Sunweaver Space. But it would be more than just moved, but rebuilt. A few residents thought it was time for a change from the "pyramid" look it had for the past few years. And so Indio Quinnell, with help from Shockwave Yareach, took on the job of constructing the new Cutlass.

Cutlass had originally looked a lot more pirate, starting out when it was in the Booty Bay sim. So the decision was made to go back to that. It was also desired to give it a look different from most other clubs. The result was a floating saucer, but not a space-age one. Stepping onto the club when it was revealed on Sunday, it had a steampunkish look to it with the rusty steel and steam pipes, some of whic blew steam. It also had something of a run-down look to it, the mall area downstairs having broken steps. Someone joked that the chakat avatars used on occasion, which in the stories could weigh a few hundred pounds were to blame. The dance floor had not a skull & crossbones, but a bunny head outline with a heart-shaped patch over one eye, most likely a friendly jab at Rita's bunnygirl avatar.

With the new club in place, with a few last minute touches still yet to be made such as the DJ board, the Sunweaver residents online at the time threw an impromtu party at the newly rebuilt club (about a dozen more residents showed up after the picture at the top was taken), dancing to the tunes Indio had on.

The new location is now at Sunweaver Space (243, 87, 123)
