Memorial Day Wounded Warrior Benefit Raises Over 100,000 Lindens

Yesterday on Sunday May 26, Veterans Isle held its Memorial Day Weekend Wounded Warrior Benefit. For four hours, performers entertained the crowd, many dancing to the music. The event was organized in part by musician Frets Nirvana.

It is time for the Wounded Warriors Memorial Weekend benefit. And we have a great lineup! Please join us to celebrate the memorial weekend the way it should be ... helping our vets! Give to those who give us our freedom. And say your prayers for one of our supporting Vets. Pondman Haalan (Alton Rex) had to cancel due to health issues. 

Anek Fuchs started the event out at 5PM SL time. At 6PM, Senjata Witt took to the stage. 7PM was when Frets Nirvana got his guitar and went to the stage himself. Finally at 8PM. Rhia Yuhara and her band, "Rhia's Rawkettes," performed for the crowd for the last hour.

"This is the way to celebrate Memorial Weekend!" Frets told everyone at the event, asking people to invite their friends over. As time went on, the amounts in the two kiosks on either side of the stage slowly got larger. On occasion, Frets would match a donation, "1500 during this song and I have to match it." One jeweler offered a custom set of her wares for any donation of $3000 or greater.

By the end of the event, there was 52,500 Lindens in the left kiosk and 48,850 in the right one, for a total of 101,350 Lindens.

Frets Nirvana and US Military Veterans Group announces the fifth of 2014 Wounded Warriors benefits.  The fourth year running.  And this is special because it is Memorial Day Weekend!

Frets Nirvana, the premier songwriting and guitar artist in the virtual world Second Life and the US Military Veterans Group announce the fifth of the monthly series of Wounded Warriors benefits in Second Life for 2014.  This effort is now in it’s fourth year!

Frets Nirvana states:  “As a result of the support of many in Second Life this effort raised over $13000 in 2013 for WWP and prior to that $12000 in 2012.  2014 will be the fourth year that we are maintaining this effort and hopefully with all the great support of the artists and others in Second Life we will once again do well.  What a great thing it is to help the wounded veterans whose sacrifices allow us the freedom to enjoy things like Second Life.”

More than 50,000 troops have been injured in recent conflicts, many of them suffering traumatic brain injuries, amputations, and severe burns.  Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) provides services and programs to ease their burdens and aid in the transition back to civilian life.

Wounded Warriors concerts feature premier Second Life talent monthly at Veteran’s Isle.  The concert on May 25, 2014 is scheduled from 4-9 PM PST.  Featured artists will be PonDman Haalan, Anek Fuchs, Senjata Witt, Frets Nirvana and Rhia Yuharra.

Wounded Warrior Benefit Raises Over 150,000 Lindens

On the evening of Sunday April 27, Veterans Isle held it's monthly benefit for the Wounded Warrior Project. Over the course of four hours, four musicians performed live on stage in front of an audience. The event was organized by guitarist Frets Nirvana.

Tonight is the fourth of our monthly Wounded Warriors benefits in Second Life for 2014. And it is a great lineup once again. But more importantly it is for the benefit of our Wounded Warriors ….without whose sacrifice we could not enjoy the freedom to do what we do here! Come out and support this great cause and listen to some great music in Second Life. 

From 5 to 6PM SL time, TerryLynn Melody (TerryLynn Conrads) played music for the crowd (Pondman Haalan was originally going to take the first hour, but he had to cancel at the last minute). From 6 to 7PM, Gary Jonstone had the stage. From 7 to 8PM it was Shaye Dezno's turn. And Frets Nirvana himself capped the event from 8 to 9PM SL time (Midnight EST). When Frets was playing, he would on occasion match someone's contribution, the donations going into two kiosks on either side of the stage, shaped like upside-down helmets.

At the close of the event, 105,550 Lindens had been donated on the right kiosk, and 54500 on the right, for a total of 151,000 Lindens raised, or a little more than $600 US Dollars.

Better Late Than Never

Quite a bit has happened in recent days, such as Rod Humble's resignation and the head of the UCCSL's conclusion about Linden Lab and the ToS controversy.  Regrettably, this meant a few noteworthy events weren't mentioned. Still deserving of mention, here they are.

Wounded Warrior Benefit Raises Close to 120,000 Lindens

On January 26, the monthly Wounded Warrior fundraiser took place at Veterans Isle. From 5PM SL time to a bit after 9PM SL time (Midnight EST), four musicians performed live in front of the crowd. Besides Frets Nirvana who organized the event, there was PonDman Haalan, Ganjo Mokeev, and the popular Mankind Tracer. When the last singer was finished, they had raised about 115,000 Lindens. But the donations kept coming. About a half hour later, the total had gone up to a few shy short of 120,000.


We raised 115k Linden at last nights Wounded Warriors Benefit. That means we will be sending a little over $400 to Wounded Warriors for the month of January 2014. Thank you to all who supported and to the great performers. Pondman Haalan, ( Alton Rex), Ganjo Mokeev and Mankind Tracer ( Seth Regan). You were fantastic. ...  Remember, this need does not get smaller. It only gets bigger. Count the blessings that so many have sacrificed to allow us to have. Thank you all for supporting.

ROMA Celebrates Paganalia

While the Steamlands were having their Winter Games on the weekend of January 25 and 26, the ROMA area was having its Paganalia festival. Things started off on Saturday with a roleplay ritual for Ceres, the Roman goddess of agriculture, and Tellus, or "Mother Earth" to the Romans. The ceremony was done in Latin with an English translation. The two other events that day were fishing and a crocodile race. Sunday would see a recreated ancient Egyptian ritual, then the Grand Feast which offered lots of food and dance.

The final event was the "Legio XIII Death-match," in which ROMA's legionnaire's fought one another with sword and shield in one on one elimination combat with the winners of the first round taking on one another in the second, and so on. The match was held on a bridge over spikes. If a player fell, he or she was out. The semifinals had one close match with each legionnaire's combat meter close to one another as damaging blows were felt. The result was both players knocking each other out: a rare occurrence in ROMA's legionnaire fights. The winner was Tarvos Cilvrnigvs (Tarvos Resident), whom walked away with a 1000 Linden prize.

The Drax Files Radio Hour (With Jo Yardley)

Following the first episode of Draxtor Despres' radio show, the program continued to be broadcasted every Friday morning in Second Life, with the episodes available for later listening on the show's webpage. Yours truly planned to listen to each one before writing about it, but time constraints left that a nonoption.

Episode 2 discussed the legacy of the late entertainer Osprey Therian whom passed away recently. Other topics included the Redzone controversy, NSA snooping, net neutrality, and Philip Rosedale's High Fidelity.

Episode 3 featured an interview with Esteban Winsmore. discussing a documentary about virtual reality by Loki Eliot, and a Google Glass user getting arrested.

Episode 4 discussed the resignation of Rod Humble, and the impending shutdown of Cloud Party.

Sorry these stories didn't get attention until now, but better late than never,

Wounded Warriors Raises 100,000 Lindens at Veterans Isle

Last night on October 27, the US Military Veterans Group held it's monthy Wounded Warriors benefit. From 5PM SL time to just after 9PM, four musicians performed for the crowd, which was more than two dozen avatars in size at times.

 US Military Veterans Group  and Frets Nirvana, the premier guitar artist in the virtual world Second Life announce the Wounded Warriors benefit  October 27th. A Wounded Warriors concerts feature premier Second Life Talent monthly at Veterans Isle.  The concert is scheduled from 5-9 PM PST.

PomDman Haalan was the first musician at 5PM. At 6PM, Pete Mroz was the one making music. From 7 to 8PM, it was Frets Nirvana himself "making waves" with his music. And at 8PM, Amforte Clarity took the stage. Wearing a cloth covering over her mouth, Amforte called her performance "ninja style." The dance area was a bit Halloweeny as well with a pumpkin patch set up in the middle, and some in the audience in costume.

While Amforte was performing, Frets announced he would notate twenty thousand linens to the amount donated, the cash in two tip jars resembling upside down helmets. The amount raised then was 80,000 Lindens. When there was about five minutes to go, the amount had risen to 90,000. When the masked musician was playing her last song, there was about 1,500 left to go. And when the time reached 9PM SL time, the total raised had finally hit 100,000 Lindens.

Chatting with Dahlea Milena, she explained that there would be two events on Veterans Day next month, " Club Vet is having a Veterans Day event on Veterans Day, Checkers Firelight is handling that. We're having our 'Veterans Day' event here on the 10th in conjunction with the Marine Corps b'day ball." Checkers was looking for people to help out with a 21 gun salute for Club Vet. The event at Veterans Isle was Toby Keith's Tribute Concert at 8PM Sunday Nov 10.

Wounded Warriors Raises Over 200,000 Lindens

On Sunday night, September 29, Frets Nirvana and three other musicians performed for a an audience at Veterans Isle at a benefit for the Wounded Warrior Project.


It's that time again folks... for the Wounded Warriors Project benefit sponsored by Frets Nirvana and hosted by all the fine folks at Veterans Isle.  ... The program has developed significantly over the last several years to include advocacy, benefits counseling, caregivers retreats, coping/family services, peer mentoring, warriors to work & many other programs for the benefit of U S wounded veterans. Sponsored by Frets Nirvana, & US Military Veterans Group

The schedule for the four hour event went PonDman Haalan from 5 to 6, Denny Mac from 6 to 7,  Frets Nirvana from 7 to 8, and Noma Falta  from 8 to 9.

A total of 212,100 L raised was raised that evening in the two helmet-shaped kiosks on both sides of the stage.

Wounded Warrior Bennefit Raises over 90,000 Lindens

On Sunday evening, July 28, Veterans Isle had their monthly Wounded Warrior Bennefit. The live music event was organized in part by Frets Nirvana, and took place from 5PM to 9PM SL time.

Tonight is our seventh in the series of Wounded Warriots monthly benefits we conduct each month in Second Life. So far we have sent almost $6000 to WWP this year! And tonight will be a great event So come on out and support.

PonDman Haalan started things off at 5PM. Next at 6 was Dexter Moore. At 7PM, Frets Nirvana himself took the stage and played his guitar to the cheers of the crowd. Last but hardly least was Ganjo Mokeev. Much of the time, the stage had a packed crowd with nearly fifty residents in the sim. Over time, the Lindens slowly added up in the two upside down helmet kiosks on either side of the stage. With a few extra in cash added as Ganjo was wrapping up, the total was 90, 430 Lindens.

"Folks every bit of what you donated tonight will go to Wounded Warriors," Frets told everyone, "Thank you very much for your support!" GJackie Winkler, a friend of Frets, told, "Last year these concerts gave Wounded Warriors over $12,000 US dollars. It is hoped over the year of 2013, it will be $13,000 US."

Wounded Warrior Benefit Raises over 180,000 Lindens

On Sunday evening, June 30th, people gathered at Veterans Isle for the monthly Wounded Warrior fundraising concert. Organized by Frets Nirvana, he and two other musicians, Chris Quan and Dirtydee Sweetwater performed for the crowd from 6 to just after 9PM SL time.

Chris Quan performed first for the crowd at 6PM. Frets Nirvana stepped onto the stage at 7. It was eight in the evening when Dirtydee Sweetwater got on stage, and the Lindens slowly accumulated. Frets made a promise to the crowd. If 150,000L was raised, he would donate an extra 25,000L.

By 8:48, they had collected 111,000L. As the minutes ticked, it didn't raise much more, and with five minutes to go, they were still 39,000 short. Then a few more people began plunking in larger amounts. This included a resident named Edd Thor who stepped in with a massive donation that brought cheers when people realized how much it was, Frets going, "Wow Ed! Thank you!" GJackie Winkler, whom had been greeting people as they came in, blurted, "Wow Edd, you are so wonderful! Thank you, thank you so very much!!" Her attention then turned to the crowd, "Come everyone, show Edd how wonderful you all can be! He just brought us up from 111,000 to the 150K we needed to get the extra 25K." Edd's response was simple, "I am glad to be part of this."

Frets then made good on his promise, "150K! Folks, I am putting in my 25K. ... Ed just donated big time folks. That is very very kind." He then made an announcement in group chat, "OK folks ..Ed has led the way ...let's see how much more we can get ...please think about it ..we could not be here doing this withotu our vets and their sacrifice ...please dig in and give what you can..." At one point it was suggested that they keep Dirtydee playing one more song for every 1,000 more raised. But he was out of tunes. The final total was 181,500 Lindens. Frets and GJackie thanked everyone for their donations.

Wounded Warriors Memorial Day Weekend Event Raises 160,000 Lindens

On Sunday May 26th, the evening before Memorial Day, Veterans Isle hosted a Wounded Warriors Benefit concert. From 6 to 9PM SL time, three musicians performed live for the audience at the stage for the veterans community and friends of. The event was in part organized by guitarist Frets Nirvana.

For the first hour, DennyMac performed on stage. From 7PM SL time to 8, Frets Nirvana himself performed for the crowd with his guitar. And in the last hour, Avantgarde Frequency played his piano. Just after Avantgarde got off the stage, Frets made an announcement, "Folks we raised 160k for Wounded Warriors tonight ...thank you to all who supported!"

There was an announcement of another event the following evening on Memorial Day. But events didn't go as planned, and instead a DJ performed for the small crowd.

Veterans Isle holds a monthly concert on the last Sunday of every month for The Wounded Warrior Project.

Wounded Warrior Memorial Day Benefit Tonight.

In addition to it's regular monthly show on the last Sunday of every month last night, Veterans Isle will be hosting a special Memorial Day show, raising funds for the Wounded Warrior Project. The event will start at 6PM SL time, and continue on to Midnight. Besides the musicians performing, there will be "a recorded interview that was done live with a WWII veteran."

On Sunday April 28th, Veterans Isle hosted the monthly fundraiser in Second Life for the Wounded Warrior Project. The event was organized by singer Frets Nirvana, and took place from about 5PM SL time to a little past 9PM.

Almost lost in the Easter celebrations and Relay For Life fundraising, Frets Nirvana's monthly Wounded Warrior Bennefit continued to do as well as ever. The event took place over four hours with four singers, going from 5 PM to about 9PM SL time (Midnight EST). In a post, he stated that 206,000 Lindens were raised.

The Wounded Warrior Project is a nonprofit group devoted to "honor and empower wounded warriors" of the US Military. The Project's objective is to provide tangible support for the severely wounded and help them on the road to healing, both physically and mentally." Brought into Second Life, for many months the events were held at Patriot Island before they were moved to Veterans Isle last month.

We raised 206k Linden last night at the Wounded Warriors benefit. Thanks to all the great performers Pondman Haalan, TerryLynn Melody and Max Kleene and thanks to all who support ..especially Dahlea Milena! We have also raised a 211k Linden through the USO tour effort that Don Guapo and Checkers Firelight work hard on. So for March we will be sending over $1600 US to the Wounded Warriors project! Thanks to all in Second Life!

And that's no April Fool.

Two Wounded Warrior Benefits Raise Almost 250,000 Lindens

Usually, there's only one benefit a month in Second Life for the Wounded Warrior Project. This weekend, there were two, in Friendly Airport and Veterans Isle.

On Friday evening Feb 22, there was a Wounded Warrior benefit at the Friendly Airport in the Firespire sim. The event was publicized by Vickster Khun of New Bastogne, and singer Frets Nirvana, whom performed for the event. The event went from 6 SL time to about 9 SL time.


Tonight, Friendly Airport is hosting 4... count 'em 4 LIVE performances back to back. HELVIS will rock your socks off with 50's and Elvis tunes 5-6pmm Jimmyt49 Dukes, Anek Fuchs and Frets Nirvana will perform benefit concerts for the Wounded Warriors Project, starting at 6pm SLT. So bring a friend or two and party with the NAS at their home base at Friendly Airport!


Vickster Khun was among those in the audience., which numbered about thirty avatars. When Frets Nirvana took the stage at 8 SL time, about 15,000 Lindens had been raised. By the time the event ended, the total had risen to 23,700.

On Sunday came the main Wounded Warrior benefit. As usual, it was on the last Sunday of the month. But this time it was in a new sim, Veterans Isle. Dahlea Milena and others from Patriot Island were there, and the hours were the same, 5PM SL time to a little after 9PM. Frets Nirvana and GJackie Winklerannounced the event in a few groups after Kitzie Lane started things up.

 Hi folks! We have this month's Wounded Warriors going on tonight right now. Kitzie Lane is filling in for Waya. Up next is Pondman Haalan. Come on out and support, and enjoy some great music!

Shannon Oherlihy was the performer at 6PM When Frets took the stage, guitar in hand, at 7, the total amount raised was close to 80,000 Lindens. Dahlea welcomed those dropping in. GJackie Winkler thanked people as they donated Lindens in the two helmets on either side of the stage. Frets promised that if the amount raised reached 128,000, that he would donate an extra 50,000. By 7:30 SL time, the amount had gone up to 87,450 Lindens. In three minutes, it jumped to 100,000. By 7:45, it was up to 108,200L. At 7:52, it was 112,000. Finally when Frets finished his set it was at 115,500. Not enough, but Frets told the crowd as musician Von Johin took the stage, "Folks, if we can get it to 175K while Von plays, I will put in 50K, still got it!"

The minutes ticked by, and at 8:58PM the amount was 166,800 Lindens. Someone donated 5 thousand Lindens, and others made up the difference. And with 175,000 raised, the crowd cheered as Frets added the extra 50,000. The final amount was 225,171 Lindens.

There had been a woman whom offered to striptease to encourage the men to donate, but Daliah told everyone that couldn't be permitted, "we are required to maintain certain standards here for the good of our vets all the time, due to RL legalities for non-profits."


Dahlea had nothing but praise for Frets, "He's amazing, and all the work he does to coordinate & schedule these wounded warrior benefits, he's tireless in his passion for this cause."

And so with two events this weekend, the Wounded Warrior Project has raised about 250,000 Lindens. Stay tuned for the next fundraiser on March 31st.

Wounded Warrior Benefit Raises Nearly 200,000 Lindens

 On Sunday night, September 30th, Patriot Island hosted their monthly Wounded Warrior Benefit Concert. From about 4PM SL time to just after 9PM (7 to Midnight EST) Singers included Waya Snowpaw, PonDman Haalan, Anj Gustafson, and Jack Kinagree & Lexi Smith.


Donations rose steadily throughout the event. As of 6:15PM, 64,500 Lindens had been raised, which became 70,500 L in four minutes, and nine minutes after that 83,400 Lindens. At times, Frets Nirvana, who helped organize the event, stepped in, offering to match donations made by a certain time, "Ok, let's try this, five people give 1k, I will match with 5k."

Attendance was somewhat lower that night than some previous benefits. This may have been due to technical difficulties as yours truly froze a few times, eventually crashed, and had some trouble getting back online. But that didn't stop the fundraising. The last hour had both Jack Kinagree (Zorch Boomhauer) & Lexi Smith (Lexi Luan). They played for an extra ten minutes for last-minute donations to come in, "Great show Lexie and Zorch."

The final total, at least as of 9:15, was 193, 500 Lindens. Frets was thanked for his efforts here, "Frets as always, such a wonderful evening, thank you for bringing so much wonderful talent here to our vets' center, and supporting our Wounded Warriors."

Frets Nirvana and US Military Veterans Group announce ninth 2012 Wounded Warriors Benefit concert for Sept 30, 2012. 

Frets Nirvana, the premier guitar artist in the virtual world Second Life and the US Military Veterans Group announce the first Wounded Warriors benefit for the year 2012.  

More than 30,000 troops have been injured in recent conflicts, many of them suffering traumatic brain injuries, amputations, and severe burns.  Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) provides services and programs to ease their burdens and aid in the transition back to civilian life.

Frets Nirvana states:  “As a result of the support of many in Second Life this effort raised over $9200 in 2011 for WWP.  We hope to meet a target of $12000 in 2012.  We are going for 12 in 12! Year to date in 2012 we have sent over $8000 to The Wounded Warriors project.  So we are getting close!”

Wounded Warriors concerts feature premier Second Life Talent monthly at Patriot Island.  The concert on August 26, 2012 is scheduled from 4-9 PM PST.  Featured artists will be  Waya Snowpaw, PonDman Haalan, Anj Gustafson, KInagree-Smith and Frets Nirvana.

ABOUT WOUNDED WARRIORS  - Wounded Warrior Project began when several individuals took small, inspired actions to help others in need. The resulting objective was to provide tangible support for the severely wounded and help them on the road to healing, both physically and mentally. What had been initially viewed as a small contribution (compared with what the warriors had sacrificed while serving our country) has become WWP's signature program:"WWP backpacks delivered bedside to wounded warriors."  Wounded Warriors program has developed significantly over the last several years to include advocacy, benefits counseling, caregivers retreats, coping/family services, peer mentoring, warriors to work and many other programs for the benefit of United States wounded veterans.

Wounded Warrior Benefit Raises Over 150,000 Lindens

Last night, Sunday August 26, at the Patriot Island sim, the monthly fundraiser for the Wounded Warrior Project took place. The event, organized in part by musician Frets Nirvana, began at 4PM SL time, and continued to 9PM.

Hi folks! Tonight, we are starting the monthly Wounded Warriors Benefit tonight now! Tonight we have Waya Snowpaw now, PonDman Haalan 5 PM, Franklee Anatra 6 PM, Frets Nirvana 7 PM and Acoustic Energy Nitely 8 PM! Great lineup ...come on out and support this great cause!

Taking place at the hangar bay stage, the sim was getting a bit packed with 45-50 avatars on it for much of the event. Most were human, but there were a few others, such as one wolfess with a veteran's spouse tag, and another avatar which was just a hat and dozens of butterflies. Among those in the audience was Passionate Redhead leader Sabine McGettin. Besides the fundraiser, the hurricaine in the Gulf made the discussion, "I swear, I did NOT say I needed a guy so bad that they had to send ISAAC to my doorstep, (laughter)."

With Acoustic Energy Nitely taking the stage, the donations had passed the 100,0000 mark, and were increasing. Frets Nirvana then began offering to match the donations people put up, "Who wants to break my bank? ... Double your money! Put it in the helmets. Pay it forward, and it will come back to you."

The donations continued to come in after Acoustic stopped playing. At 9:15, Frets Nirvana announced, "157,076 Linden total tonight. Thanks everyone." "Nite Frets, and thank you for being so awesome!"

Patriot Island is owned by the US Military Veterans Group. Besides home to a community of vets and the location of public events, it is in part a memorial site, a replica of the Tomb of Unknowns in the center. So visitors are asked to be respectful while visiting. The Wounded Warrior Project is a nonprofit group devoted to "honor and empower wounded warriors" of the US Military.
