 For fans of "Switched Destinies," a novel series written by Second Life resident Nydia Tungsten, good news. On her Zazzle page, there's now a T-shirt available for purchase, with pictures of the cover art of both the original book and it's sequel.

She wasn't out to get an SL baby, but was using it just to keep from being pestered from guys asking for sex. Needless to say, seeing this shirt, I was thinking of my friend and what she would use it for.

Newer Avatar, Old Outfit: CNN iReports Clothes

 

Going through my inventory for the Club Cutlass "Best in C" event, I came across something I picked up almost a decade ago. It was almost ten years ago on Dec 29, 2011 that CNN iReports Island held it's last event, the location shutting down soon after. The place had a welcome package, including a CNN baseball cap and a CNN iReports t-shirt. And it fit well enough on my DSD mouse avie, though there'd have to be slots cut in the cap for the ears. 

For this virtual reporter, it was a bit nostalgic. For others, not so much, feeling the network has seen better days. One felt the initials should have stood for "Crap News Network." Oh well, you can't please everyone.

Cartoon of the Day: Third Knock From The Sun

Taken at the Happy Vixen. For those who don't know, the shirt is about a reoccurring gag from the show "Third Rock From the Sun," in which one of the characters, Sheldon, has a number of quirks. Among them, knocking on the door of his lady friend Penny three times, then calling her name. Some computer geeks liked it. Others disliked it as they saw it as mocking them. Guess to avoid trouble, this guy  knocks on copper, three times.

Looking Back: John McCain's Campaign in Second Life

Some sad news. John McCain, the Vietnam War veteran turned political leader, passed away yesterday on Saturday August 25. He had been suffering from cancer, and had just announced he was no longer continuing his treatment. He was 81.

Besides serving as US Senator for Arizona for six terms, he ran for President twice. In 2008, he succeeded in winning the nomination of the Republican Party for the Presidential Election that year. And like many other things in real life, the election would be reflected inworld with various offices of a number of candidates inworld during the primaries, such as Hillary Clinton's. Although a few politicians such as Newt Gingrich had made appearances in Second Life earlier, these efforts were not the work of the candidates, but their supporters. For supporters of McCain inworld, they would meet at the "Straight Talk Cafe," named for the "Straight Talk Express," an expression of McCain's meaning he would do his best to be straightforward with the voters. The Cafe also handed out McCain t-shirts, such as the one pictured here.

I would write about the election a few times for Second Life Newspaper, such as the watching the Presidential Debates from the Straight Talk Cafe, as well as Cafe Wellstone and Capitol Hill. And occasionally these locations would be mentioned in real life media, such as my local newspaper. I would also write about Election Night on November 4. But due to the stock market crash a few months earlier and resulting economic worries, McCain's campaign would lose much of it's steam, and Obama would win the election. After Second Life Newspaper closed, most of the election articles would vanish from the Internet. What I have left is the Election Night 2008 article, and the t-shirt.

In his concession speech on Election Night 2008, McCain called on Americans to come together. Maybe it's something we need to do a little more often.

Taken at the SL14B Auditorium. Xiola Linden was almost certainly just wearing the shirt for chuckles, though considering her Linden status, it does leave a few things to the imagination, as well as did the t-shirt she wore a few days later.

White Vixen Now Selling Real Life Products

"White Vixen" the group in which Nydia Tungsten's venues, businesses, and media fall under, now has an outlet not in Second Life but on the Internet. She signed up with "Zazzle," and now has a webpage which a number of shirts and coffee mugs for sale, not for Second Life avatars, but for people to use in real life.

Wikipedia defines Zazzle as "an online marketplace that allows designers and customers to create their own products with independent manufacturers (clothing, posters, etc.), as well as use images from participating companies." And so Nydia's page allows customers to purchase t-shirts and coffee mugs with some of her logos of "Nydia's Angels" and "Angel Productions."

The prices vary per design. The two-toned mug on the webpage costs $21.70 USD, but it can be discounted to $18.45 for a solid white mug. The most economical kind of t-shirt is $19.95 USD. There are other options for the mugs ant t-shirts one can choose for a little more money.

 Remember Beckye Burnstein the "Visible Woman?" Well, like so many builders, she's still at it. She recently sent me a "Le Smart T-shirt" Coming in three sizes of Mesh, it's actually a couple dozen shirts in one.

 With the HUD controls, one can change the shirt to one of the couple dozen pictures stored. One can find the shirt, and other goods of hers, in her store (check her profile for the location of the place).

Beckye's also been sporting a child avatar lately. She says she may slowly grow it over time at the rate of about one year a month. She may eventually construct child-sized organs for it later, like she had for her adult form.

Her interest in child avatars goes beyond just clothing. She developed a racing group with child avatars in mind, the "SL Kids Racing Association." It has a racetrack at the Nightshark sim at (43/58/3511), and a Facebook page at: https://www.facebook.com/SLKRA?pnref=story

"I Can't Breathe" T-Shirt on SL Marketplace

In recent weeks, "I Can't Breathe" has become a rallying cry for protesters following the decision of a grand jury not to indict a New York City policeman for charges related to the death of Eric Garner, an overweight man who died in custody following his arrest for selling cigarettes without paying taxes on them. His last words "I Can't Breathe" were caught on camera, and became a demonstrator's chant. For those in Second Life wishing to make a statement, Ryosukito Felisimo has made this mesh T-shirt available on his SL Marketplace page.
