EOTB: "Games Made in Second Life - The Crone "
“I have done it again,” says Second Life veteran and self-described polymath of creation, Loki Eliot, with utmost confidence.
And that self-confidence is warranted indeed: just in time for Halloween weekend, Loki has opened “The Crone”, an utterly scary and truly immersive puzzle game, on his home island of Escapades.
For a nominal fee of L$100, the player becomes an investigative reporter, searching an abandoned cabin for clues to find missing townspeople … and the horror begins to seep in quickly: a dark and vast labyrinth of underground mines has to be explored, with only a torch as aid … or weapon against a ghastly occupant perhaps?
Beware of the crone wandering the cave system, guarding what can only be described as the most horrible secret Second Life Residents might be able to imagine … but if you or your fellow explorers should find it: do not spill the beans before the big day of October 31st … or the crone might be none too pleased!
Will Loki Eliot stop working his imaginative magic in Second Life anytime soon? A legitimate question, as he is often seen wandering other worlds, not unlike the protagonist of his current game. Fear not, he says, because SL is very special to him indeed: “People are still finding new ways to do things because there are so many options in SL and I've been here for over 15 years and I still don't know all the options. You can still do really cool stuff!”

SL Video: Synthesizing Pixels at Escapades Island
(Click here if the video does not play)
From Erik Mondrian on June 28, " Built by the legendary Loki Eliot, Escapades Island is a Second Life destination that is definitely not to be missed (https://secondlife.com/destination/es...), with fun activities and many hidden places to discover—not to mention a full roster of events that are held throughout the year. One of these is the annual Anniversary Weekend, for which Loki designed a go-kart track that encircles the region. After recently filming a flyover of the track (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MBoyt...) as well as a video of the meadow (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0xT_T...), I decided to try altering those two clips in my video editor, applying various effects & adding music. This is the end result."

"The Well: Ultimum" By Loki Eliot
If you haven't had enough of Halloween, or just appreciate a good scary adventure, there's something waiting for you in the Escapades sim. Noted builder Loki Eliot has come up with a horror-themed game, "The Well: Ultimum." The fourth and final installment of his "The Well" series, players follow the clues left behind by a frightened boy, piecing together what's going on So does this experience compare to Loki's previous work?

SL Video: "Draxto Streams LIVE From SL14B Part1 "
I noticed by accident Draxtor Despres was streaming live from the Second Life 14th Birthday celebration grounds. So I dropped over to say hello. I appear (in my human avatar due to the "Bid Me Human" earlier) at about 27:30 , along with Mikati Slade, the Cake Stage builder. The first fifteen minutes of the recording is of Draxtor watching Strawberry Singh's own stream.
I would follow for a little while with a couple friends, Velani and Silvia Ametza, the latter the girl who did almost all the work on the SL Newser exhibit. We would eventually check out Loki Eliot's claymation exhibit. (Note: some adult language, possible nudity from rezzing avatars).

Steelhead Update
Work on the Steelhead Community's home of Steelhead Bay continues. Besides Club Gearz, they now have a new place to dance, their new theater. On Friday April 21, it had it's first event in the form of a "Mad Scientists' Ball," with Fuzzball Ortega playing the music.
Shortly afterwards, Fuzzball gave a brief announcement for the community, saying that Loki Eliot was helping him with building and touching up the streets, "Bear with us as we get that situated." They were also adding street lamps to help light up the place at night. But there was one other issue at hand.
"Something may or may not be living in the bay," Fuzzball stated, "Apparently, folks have been seeing something surface every three minutes or so." He would later post the picture to the left on Facebook, "I think it's some old log floating in the bay......"
So is it "Swamp Gas" as someone suggested. Or does Steelhead have it's own sea monster? Perhaps time will tell. Or perhaps the "old log" will float away to other shores.

From Draxtor Despress, streamed live on June 22, Draxtor looks at Loki Elliot's "Dungeons and Knightmares" tribute game - "Loki Eliot has outdone himself at SL13B = will we be able to solve the mysteries?" As this is unedited footage, there's almost an hour as Draxtor chats with people and takes several times to get through the game.
Some profanity in the video.

"Something Amazing" And Other SLB 12 Exhibits
Across the Second Life Birthday grounds, there are many exhibits. Some stand out, due to detail, interactivity, or both. Bixyl Shuftan took a closer look at some which were recommended by others. In the case of one, "Something Amazing," the builder Kenny Luckless was interviewed about his exhibit.

"The Well"
Usually during October, I'll have done a review or two of a haunted location in Second Life. This year however, I just didn't have time. Covering the Terms of Service controversy took quite a bit of time,
and the time had to come from somewhere.
So I'll have to mention someone else's review. "The Poultry Report" talked about an exhibit by Loki Eliot's "The Well." Uccello Poultry called the haunt a "must see," even with it's 100L fee for the needed HUD.

To see "The Well," head over to Escapades (225/233/3002).

Two Second Life Games: "Star Trek Battle Game" and "Attack on Titan"
Two neat looking games have appeared in Second Life recently. One is a Star Trek game created by Loki Eliot. Loki had been "experimenting" with creating "Star Trek" style ships, and decided to make a battleship game out of it. The game pits a Federation ship against a Klingon one. The Federation ship has stronger shields and longer range weaponry, but the Klingon ship has more guns.
Second Life Newser may do a more in-depth article on the game. But for now, readers can check for more information on the game on Eliot's blog (Click here). One fan, Natascha Rantt, made a video based on the game (Click here).
The other game is based on the Japanese anime "Attack on Titan." It was created by a fan, Moeka Kohime, and quickly gained a following. Shamera Kohime (no relation) did a good article on the gameplay (click here). To get into the action, one needed to get uniforms in addition to power swords and "3D maneuver gear" that allows you to run and jump around like a movie ninja.
"The detail on the gear is amazing, and there are quite a few animations included for flying through the air, falling, landing, running, attacking, etc. I've certainly spent hours at this place just honing my Titan killing skills ..."
There was just one problem. Although the uniforms were free, the gear was not. So technically that was a violation of the anime's copyright, owned by Kodansha Ltd. And it seems they ordered to Moeka to stop selling the equipment. The vendor where it was available is gone, with the words "this product is discontinued" in it's place. The arena itself is still up for those who already bought the gear at MontSaint Michel (226/144/3901). But it seems for now no more can get into the action.
Last year there were worries about Star Trek items being taken down from Second Life due to copyright concerns. But a deal was worked out, and Trek on the Grid continued. Similar case with "Battlestar Galactica." Not all science-fiction producers have been willing to cut deals. In 2009, "Dune" roleplays were ordered to rename themselves and certain items after Trident Media group, which owned the rights to "Dune," complained to Linden Lab.With Second Life residents finding out about the anime through the game, one would think the company involved, Kodansha, might be willing to cut some kind of deal. Ciaran Laval in her blog suggested that Linden Lab could establish a process where deals could be worked out between copyright owners and content creators, noting that Amozon Kindel had procedures for fan fiction.
In the meantime, the future is looking iffy for the "Attack on Titan" game, much to the irritation of the anime's fans in Second Life. Star Trek fans, secure in the deal made earlier, can boldly go and play Loki's game to their heart's content.

(Click Here if the video fails to load)
"Episode Three" of Draxtor Despres' "Draxtor Destinations." He looks at a cartoonish build at the SL10B.
"Second Life, the user-created universe of unbridled digital creativity is turning 10 this month and Loki Eliot has created a monster: the behemoth is a not-really-thinly veiled metaphor for SL in pixel flesh and blood, complete with tiny engineers explaining to the visitor how the best of intentions to nourish and raise a cute infant child of creative expression led to the uncontrollable beauty we enjoy today."

SL Video: "The SL Goonies Expedition Short "
From Estelle Pienaa, "I shot the scenes during an adventure of the Second Life group "The Goonies" on 31/08/2012. We visited two destionations that day and the material is from the last 30 minutes of our trip (maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Beguile/220/148/20). I shot the video in order to show how immersive Second Life can be. Hopefully you can grasp how I feel like really being in a fantasy world with other people. Funnily enough my own enjoyment of the tour was reduced because I could not participate in the chat with the other players - I had to concentrate on shooting the imagery."

Rust and the Goonies
One sim in the Linden Endowment of the Arts area that's gotten a little talk is "Rust." The artist Cica Ghost created a work described as "stunning." Dropping in, it wasn't long before I had some company. A group of SL kids, The Goonies, had shown up, and they wanted to explore as well.
