Grey Lupindo reports on the "One Voice" fundraiser. The event was organized to raise funds for a content creator's legal fees in a copyright dispute, in addition to raising awareness about what DMCA rules can do to a Second Life business. The final day of the event is today.
It was an eventful Relay for Life Weekend, with hundreds of avatars walking around the track, probably over 2,000, with millions of meters walked and thousands of dollars of dollars raised. Someone at the closing ceremonies stated that this was the most successful Relay Weekend ever. It's certainly been among the most successful seasons so far. About 330,000 US dollars has been raised so far this season, and It's not over yet.
Although the Relay Weekend marks the end of the Relay for Life fundraising season, except for some teams holding one last party, the final event isn't until August with the "Wrap-Up Party," in which a few more awards will be handed out and the theme for next year announced.
This special Giant Snail Races event by RacerX Gullwing last month on June 30th was the last of the Relay for Life races. Instead of a cross-country race, they did a scavenger hunt in Bay City. The snails were to go around the town looking for items on a list. There were a total of ten checkpoints. Among them was a donut shop. One can only imagine what passersby would be thinking of the huge shelled creatures stopping by the pastry place (looking for cops perhaps?).
While there, I got into a chat with noted Bay City resident Marianne McCann. She was talking about a "Caledonian spy" who " landed at Bay City Municipal Airport and asked for asylum." But apparently her friend Ever Dreamscape had other designs for the defector, involving a clown suit and a crime scene for "interrogations." Someone stated the defector later sneaked away. Marianne commented, "Those of us in Bay City, of course, wish to continue to broker a peaceful co-existance with our... friends... in the somewhat backward nation of Caledon, but will not hesitate to keep our borders secure from any invasion force from the steam menace."
On the evening of Friday the 13th came what was seen as the event of the year for the Steelhead community, in addition to a major event to the Relay for Life voulenteers: the wedding of Marshal Fuzzball Ortega to Eugenia "Genie" Burton.
Following the ceremony, Fuzzball and Eugenia asked everyone to head to the RFL Volunteer sim for the reception. They later explained it was only fitting that it be held at the Relay, as it had such a big part of their getting together. And what a wedding it was with a djini cake in the middle, a roast pig, a chocolate fountain, "we had to send Mindy home before she took a bath in it."
It figures, when Friday the 13th rolls around, there's always a black cat somewhere.
The Relay for Life Walk takes place tomorrow, Saturday July 14th and Sunday July 15th. And until then the sims are closed to the general public. But we got a sneak peek at what the teams have created so far. And so a few pictures were taken of some of the builds.
Grease Coakes did an article a few months ago about "Heartspeaker," the storyteller at the Spirit Nations sim. Recently, Heartspeaker asked him to come back for a story that meant much to him: one about his Vision Quest. So Grease headed over to listen to the storyteler's tale.

Fleep Tuque (Chris Collins in real life), whom had been a director at previous SLCCs, including last one. In her blog, she described some reasons as to why there would be no convention this year. The short answer was Linden Lab: they would not be sponsoring one.
Have you ever wanted to go to the Moon? Well, maybe the Steelheads and their friends didn't quite get that far, but they had fun anyway at the space station on Saturday July 6th with their "To the Moon" party. There was much music and dancing, all kinds of costumes, and some auctioning off items for the Relay for Life fundraiser. The Steelhead Salmons team reached a milestone for the season that night when they reached 500,000 Lindens, and getting the coveted Platinum rank.
Breezes Babii is the charming, poetic writer whose "Breezes Thoughts" column helped give JamesT Juno's Second Life Newspaper heart with her heartfelt comments of her life and times in Second Life. After some months of quiet, she has once again picked up her pen, writing about the wedding that took place this Sunday.
This week marks the high point of the Relay for Life fundraising season, the Relay Weekend aka "The Walk." But by no means is it the only game in town. There are a number of art exhibits on display, notably "Virginia Alone" by the noted Bryn Oh in the Immersia sim, in addition to some summer festivals. And of course there's our regular selection of DJ parties and live music events, book and poetry readings, church services, and talk shows.

Yesterday, June 8th, was a momentous day for me in Second Life, and for Jasmine Dawn, my friend, and now my partner and spouse in Second Life.
Steelhead's final RFL event of the season, on July 6th, is all based on A Trip To The Moon. So, come join us for a dance on the moon. You can dress in something Sci Fi Cheesy, something straight Sci Fi, or you can come just as you are.

Last weekend had a number of teams running their last big events as they were to get ready to make their camps at the sims of the Relay Walk later this month. Among those held were a Woodstock-themed 12 hour party, Steelhead's "Critter Races," and a memorial event to the late Team Relay for Hope captain Jeffry Pastorelli.
If there's one thing virtually all Second Life residents dislike, it's the lag. The time needed for land and objects to rezz when you teleport to a place or move from one place to another. Frequently when Linden Lab unveils a new feature, the response from some residents is "stop with the bells and whistles and do something about performance!"
July is here, and with it summer fun. And the first week of July offers Independence Day on July 4rth, with events in places across the Grid, such as the Flying Tigers' July 4rth Festival and Summertown USA. While it may be the Fourth, the British are having a party of their own in the London region with their July Festival. And of course our regularly scheduled book and poetry readings, DJ music parties, and talk shows.
This weekend, tens of thousands of Lindens were raised by the Passionate Redheads Relay for Life team, mostly at a memorial service to the late caption of Team Relay for Hope Jeffry Pastorelli (more on the event later). On Monday June 2nd yesterday, the Redheads passed the 250,000 Linden Mark, and finally reached Gold rank.
Join the Flying Tigers for a four day event to celebrate the Fourth of July! Events will include a patriotic fashion show, live djs, contests, contests, and of course fireworks! The event will also feature a special three day merchant fair, where you can shop while you party!
To celebrate in SL, you need some decor. Vickijo Rivera had her creators gather some wonderful flags and balloons and other decor at the Corner of Revolving time for you. They are all free! Just take a trip over to Ophelia sim and grab them. Look for this cute picnic blanket on the lawn. Take a look inside too at the other decor you might like to grab.

Would it be the fragmented ”Look for something to do that somewhere on the grid" kind of celebration, or nothing at all, was in my mind when the LL put out the announcement they were leaving the birthday to us. Well, I figured what would be would be and went along as usual in SL, until I heard from Honour McMillan. Would I be willing to help as an exhibitor assistant for a birthday bash? I said yes I would.
Next I settled into security mode. Although there were some issues regarding rules of the party most were cleared up easily. Yes, the usual griefers appeared as expected and off they went . This was my first time involved in a SL birthday event. I loved it!!!
All the volunteers did a wonderful job through out it all . At this time we are in withdrawal, which I think will take a few weeks! I hope you got there and I hope you loved it. Take a look at Loki’s video when you want to see it all again. With all the time I sent in the sims I never got to see 300 exhibitors . I know because up to the last day I was discovering new fascinating builds.
