Wedcot Center Park
The last time we heard from Gemma, she was at a tribute to Disney theme parks. In today's article, she checks out Second Life's counterpart to Disney's Epcot: Wedcot Center Park in the Real Dreams sim. Gemma found some rides, and other attractions.

Going About Gen Con
The Gen Con is in Second Life, or at least part of it. Described as "the largest tabletop-game convention in North America," it was canceled this year in real life due to the Pandemic. So the con went online. Part of it was here in Second Life. There was plenty to see. But as this was a gaming con, there were games to be done as well.

Autopilotpatty Poppy Memorial Dance
It's been a few weeks since word got around that Autopilotpatty Poppy had passed away. A little more than a week ago, a memorial dance was held in her honor. The Newser sent someone to the event at Roshaven Laudanum, and it was quite an occasion with much praise for the departed.

Tales From Gaming : "L Is Real"
It's easy to believe rumors about games and gaming came about only when the World Wide Web made the Internet accessible to the masses. But even in the days before, there were still tales of secret rooms and characters you could unlock if you did a certain thing. In his article today, Cyfir (Cyfiremmerich) talks about one such rumor in which it was believed that in Super Mario 64, the character Luigi could be unlocked and played. As it turned out, the rumor wasn't entirely untrue.

Arcadia Asylum Amusement Park
Although the carnival in the SL17B sims is gone, another place with some fun rides has sprung up. Just across the road from the Arcadia Asylum freebie place in HV Community was an amusement part, set up by the freebie store owner Prof Grey (BrianL61 Resident).
There's a number of attractions there. The "Ferret Wheel" will have your avatar running a wheel like a hamster. The Sidewinder will leave you spinning around until you're dizzy. The Mad Drop will take your avatar over a hundred meters into the air before letting you plunge. And there are other rides you can have fun on.
The park is up "for a limited time," so head over and enjoy while you can.

Luskwood Goes Wonderland
Luskwood has gone down the rabbit hole, so to speak.
Heading over to the Lusk sim, I found Luskwood's "Big Tree" had been decked out in the style of "Alice in Wonderland." There were playing card guards. There were books all over the place, including
a couple arches made out of them. There were large roses in places. There was a tea cup with hot tea the size of a hot tub. And there was a tea party setting, with table and chairs and teapots and goodies.
Besides the Wonderland-themed decorations, there are others. In the posters, some were old ones from events long ago, though there was one advertising the SLPonycon in June. There was also a picture poking playful fun at one of the Luskwood founders. And as always, there are the avatar vendors inside the tree, and the games in the back.
It's unknown how long this new look will be up for. Possibly for another month. But for fans of Luskwood whom are interested in seeing what's new, it's a good time to drop by and have a look.
Luskwood is Second Life's oldest furry community, and possibly the oldest one that's still around.

Sunweaver Tigerclaw Apps Revealed To Have Died
One of the Sunweaver community, Tigerclaw Apps, went missing in April last year. People wondered what happened, notably his best friend Felina Fermi. Then this week, it was revealed what happened. He had passed away.
Rita Mariner would post the following:
Tigerclaw Apps, long time partner and friend to Felina Fermi, disappeared last year after the bad storm that hit the East Coast. We had thought, it was just an outage of services preventing Tigerclaw from connecting with us. Unfortunately no. Felina heard from Tigerclaw's brother. Tigerclaw passed away last April, due to a heart condition. Our prayers are with Tigerclaaw's Family and with Felina, she has lost two close, dear friends now.
For Felina, it was harsh news as Tigerclaw had been her other longtime friend in Second Life besides her late partner Rypanthian Abilene. She would later ask me to meet up with her, "Both of them I knew so long, Tiger was like 20 years actually. What are the odds of both of them dying? Maybe they were only online friends, but they were the best I ever had."
"Tigers brother finally contacted me on Steam," Felina told me. He had passed on April 23, 2019. His brother had found out about Felina, but was hesitant to give her the bad news.
Felina woud make a memorial stone for Tigerclaw next to her former partner Rypanthian's at her SL home, "Some know, truth is less knew Tiger then Panth. The three of us had almost everything in common. How often does that even happen, liked same movies liked the same games? Iknew when Tony didn't show up Apr 22nd that something was wrong. At first I thought it was a power and Internet issue. Then that stretched to days, weeks, months ... Feels like a big chunk of my soul was lost with them. Tiger knew Panth well. He introduced me to him in Everquest actually."
And the Sunweavers say goodbye to one of their own.

Disney Enchanted Adventures
For almost a hundred years, Disney has been producing a number of stories that captured the imaginations of kids and adults alike. Starting with Disneyland in California, it soon began opening theme parks around the world. Gemma Cleanslate came across a place in Second Life inspired by these parks: Enchanted Adventures. She decided to have a look around. So what did she find?

Matt Carlton Creates Gofundme For Help With Medical Bills
Matt Carlton was a big help to the Relay for Life in Second Life this year, having raised well over a hundred thousand Linden dollars at several events. Now Matt is in need of some help herself. She recently started a Gofundme campaign to help pay some medical bills.
Since around June 6th I have been having lots of digestive issues. I have been to the ER once to be given fluids and have tests ran, then to urgent car twice to have more tests and some xrays an a CT scan done. Apparently something is causing enteritis, or inflammation of my little intestines. I was recently referred to a specialist, and have been scheduled for a colonoscopy set for Aug 19th to try and get a few more answers as to why this is happening. While they will let me make payments, any help with the bills will be greatly appreciated. I set the goal at what my current ct scan bill amount and the estimated Colonoscopy bill combined would be. I know times are hard right now on everyone, and being a driver for Postmates, I have very little income at the moment, esp with not being able to be online as much as needed due to all the doctors visits in the last four weeks and frequent....restroom visits, for lack of a nicer what to put it. I am able to work a bit as of recently at least. I thank you much for the help, and even if the goal is not reached, anything helps right now, even if it just pays a bill for one of my visits with the specialist or something. Thanks again.
Soon after posting, Matt was in a car accident while riding with a friend. While she wasn't badly hurt, the visit to the hospital did add to her medical bills.

SL17B Sims Offline
And so, it's finally over.
Originally scheduled to close on Monday July 13, the sims of the Second Life Seventeenth Birthday got an extension for another week. So they remained open to all until Midnight July 19. They were open a few more days for exhibitors to pick up their displays, or admire the works of others one more time. Mischievous Mole would post the following:
The Estate is open through Sunday, July 19th for people to come in and continue to explore. The practical side of this is DON'T take down your exhibits yet! You can clean up your parcels July 20-22. Thanks everyone for a great Birthday! I hope everyone had a good time. I would love to hear any feedback you have about how things worked and what you thought of the layout this year.
Wednesday July 22 was the last day, and the sun set on the SL17B grounds for the final time. Sometime after Midnight, the sims were taken offline, and anything left there was frozen in place.
It was a great SL17B, and here's looking forward to SL18B.

Addition: I heard Friday night that the exhibitors had their objects returned.

Real-Life Con Coming to Second Life : Gen Con July 30 to August 2
With conventions in real life being canceled due to the Coronavirus crisis, one alternative is for the events to go virtual. Gen Con, described by Wikipedia as " the largest tabletop-game convention in North America by both attendance and number of events," had to cancel in real life. But will be having events online, including here in Second Life, thanks to VRazeTheBar.
VRazeTheBar is going to go live providing an awesome social gaming experience for everyone wanting to attend Gen Con in Indianapolis this year but are unable to.
VRazeTheBar has partnered with Gen Con - the largest and longest running gaming convention in North America - to provide an awesome interactive social gaming experience built on Linden Lab's Enterprise/Education version of Second Life, the world's largest user-created virtual world of its kind enjoyed by millions of people around the globe.
The event will take place over the course of four days from Thursday July 30 to Sunday August 2. The entrance to the four sim inworld location is in Welworn (97/224/97). For more information, one can check out https://www.vrazethebar.com/, https://www.gencon.com/. and watch the Lab Gab tomorrow, Friday July 24, at 11 AM SL time when Strawberry Linden interviews Alesia (AlesiaPM) and Ron (RCArchitect) about this ambitious effort to bring a large gaming convention to Second Life.

Memorial to Victims of Covid-19
With the Coronavirus crisis continuing to affect real life with no end in sight, it has affected Second Life in various ways. Recently, I came across a memorial someone set up for those whom perished due to the virus.
Pray for your loved ones who are ill with coronavirus. Put out a free sign and candle. Pray for health care workers. Place a memorial for those who have died of this pandemic. Places of meditation and healing nearby. May God have mercy on our souls!
The memorial is made of up a number of smaller builds. Some are various shrines. In one place was a sink with instructions on how to wash hands thoroughly, One has pictures of some people whom were lost, including Dr. Li Wenliang, whom was the first doctor to try to warn people of the Coronavirus, but was told by his government to keep quiet, until it was too late.
The memorial was set up by Prokofy Neva, and is located in the Atis sim. Trying to teleport over, on one occasion I ended up in a skybox high above the memorial. I ended up having to TP to an adjacent sim and walk over.

Taken at the Second Life Birthday. This one guy took a while to rezz, at first appearing as just his clothes. The exciting thing about being invisible is no one can see you. But that can also be the bad thing unfortunately at times, such as when you're crossing the street.

The Importance of Digital Media
Last week, Cyfir (Cyfiremmerich) wrote about the importance of games as physical content, as that way they're easier to preserve. But having spoken that, digital media has it's own set of advantages. In his article for this week. Cyfir talks about them. And while getting games as digital media is more convenient, there are other advantages.

Star Trek Museum, Curious Avatar Store Offline
Two locations that have been around for a while in Second Life have apparently gone offline. Taking a peek in the forums, I came across one thread that stated the Star Trek Museum had gone offline. Checking an LM I had, the place had closed down. Nor did it come up in search. The museum was located in the New Eridani sim.
In 2014, the Second Life Newser wrote an article about the location. It was owned and managed by Wabisabi Matahari before she turned it over to Asae Yuitza to run.
Another location that has gone off the map is the Curious Avatar store. Located in the Curious sim, it offered a number of anthro avatar types, though was probably most noted for it's kani bunny avatar which remained popular for years. It also had a freebie feline avatar, the Felis, which anyone could pick up.
Chatting with someone in the group via an alt, I was told that the sim had been down for a month. He also pointed out that Uchi Desmoulins, the owner, wasn't even listed among the store group's members. Although Uchi's profile is still listed, the Curious Marketplace page is also down.
Stay tuned for more information as it becomes available.
Addition: A reader pointed out the Star Trek Museum's Facebook page, which stated it had been closed since 2018.

EOTB: "Casting Call For A New Second Life Documentary"
Last Friday July 17 on the Linden blog, there was an announcement for a "casting call" for a documentary on Second Life. It will be directed by Olivia De Camps, and produced by Tom Sid.
Every day, all around the world, millions of people log onto virtual worlds such as Second Life. Through a series of individual stories, this documentary aims to explore the core of basic human interaction. For many individuals, virtual worlds not only serve as escapism, but also morph into an expansion of their real life— where genuine friendships are formed, economy thrives, and often romance is built upon a virtual image that is frequently transferred to the real world. Users have the ability to immerse in the world they have always dreamed of living in, exploring their gender, racial, or sexual identity and creating strong bonds with people they might never get a chance to meet off screen. As we have been stuck at home without a possibility to physically meet, the idea of a digital world has become even more attractive.

Through interviews (all filmed digitally due to COVID) and re-enactments on SL, we are searching for stories to tell from an experiential, non-judgmental and visually-driven way. Tell us your story! How has SL been a world for you in quarantine? Has it helped you find your identity? Did you form a special relationship on the platform If you're an artist, do you come here to share your works (design clothes, host virtual raves, digital photography)? Cartoon of the Day: Hungry Leopard
From the SL17B. This exhibit showed a couple leopards sneaking into someone's car for a free snack. But perhaps the human wasn't so unaware, or as inept as they might have assumed.

Ivory Tower Poetry
Don't know much about aligning prims
Don't know much about path cut trims
Don't know much about blender stuff,
Don't know much about terrain rough
But I do know that Pi is 3.2,
And I know that if you're building, too,
What a wonderful world this would be.

Bellisseria Update: Working on The Railroad
In real life, railroads have only been around for a couple hundred years. But they've had quite an impact on our transportation and culture. In Second Life, while one doesn't really need a rail line to get around, there's just something about riding the rails, as well as the sight of the tracks. So in the Bellisseria regions, the Linden moles have been laying down track. Yours truly took a look at some of the work being done in the newer eastern Bellisseria continent.
